Women's March On Washington 2017

Cardinal Fang, I’ll be wearing my Nasty Woman shirt, as will a friend joining me. I’m giggling at the the image of tens of thousands of women across the country wearing those fun hats and proclaiming our nastiness.

momofthreeboys, you won’t provoke us. If there’s nothing “tangible maybe” you can get behind in the marches, so be it.

Not provoking at all, really trying to understand what is being asked. I’m from the NOW generation…we generally had defined rallies around a single want. So maybe I’m just too old school to get this one but I’m trying.

It makes me  to learn so many CC friends will be participating. But I am not too surprised.

I am really happy to hear that the younger women/girls are getting behind this!

I am marching for my hypothetical future granddaughters. I want my kids to tell them, “grandmama was there for you.”

And I’m marching for all your granddaughters already born.

I’m ALSO marching for my son and for my hypothetical future grandsons, because I truly believe that a society in which women are free, empowered, respected and equal is a better society for ALL.

(But yes, I do hope my hypothetical future granddaughters can giggle over my Nasty Woman t-shirt!)

I think women and men may have different, very positive, reasons for participating. Frequently I’m participating in events as an ally. And I think that is worthwhile or I wouldn’t do it. And I am grateful I am welcome to do so. However, I am doing this for women, including those not yet born. I agree with you that men will benefit.

I don’t want to post anything that could be construed as political according to CC rules.

Of course, I think our daily lives are a political statement more often than not.

Ha! No indeed. I see zero reason to participate in such an event.

Given the time of year and how bitterly cold it can possibly be in D.C., I wish they had thought to produce a vest or tunic or even “sandwich” style thingie with side ties with the slogans and illustrations, etc. for people to wear OVER their coats.

I think sheer presence, numbers, and accompanying signs are more important than any type of clothing or accessory.

For those attending the DC march, I stumbled upon this interactive map which might be handy:

@doschicos, fabulous interactive map! Lots of great info and suggestions…like take a portable external battery phone charger with you, no charging kiosks in D.C.
And yes, you’re right…hollding high a great sign is way better than clothing with slogans anyway.

I hadn’t realized there would be local marches, so I may see if my D’s want to participate and will do so if they’re interested. I’m not much of one for marches and protests. I don’t think they change anyone’s mind. If anything they probably just pump up the other side by letting them shout “crybaby losers” or whatever. But there is certainly a sense of solidarity and shared purpose which is meaningful too.

Another logistical point is to have clear plans with people you are with, including fall back meeting places and times. When you have this many people together, cell phone calls often don’t go through and even sending a text can be sketchy.

@“Cardinal Fang” - is the time change a done deal? I’m still trying to work out logistics with those I’m traveling with. Earlier is going to be more difficult for me. I may only be able to make the march. What website are you using for the most up-to-date information?

I don’t think we can say the name here of the site here, but it’s Mark Zuckerberg’s social media titan of Menlo Park, California, and the name of the page is Women’s March San Francisco. I’ve also read of the change on numerous other pages on that same social media site.

Oh, there’s also a registration page on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/womens-march-san-francisco-tickets-30283876891

You do not have to buy tickets and there is no charge. They’re just trying to get a count. So far the social media site has 17,000 who say they’re going.

Oh, you can say Facebook; you just can’t provide links to it. In fact, there’s a Facebook link at the bottom right of every post; I’m embarrassed to say I don’t know if you can do anything with it, but the intent was to somehow be able to link posts to your Facebook page.

Any other Coloradans heading to Denver?

I have to add one more logistical thing, lol. There will be huge amounts of people in DC and the bleachers and fences put up for the inaugural parade will still be in place. It will be very frustrating to get around! Please don’t knock over fences and trample gardens and plantings on the Mall or anywhere else. The beautiful gardens around the old Castle building were horribly damaged by frustrated people attending Obama’s first inauguration. It took a long time for them to recover and the Smithsonian is always short on funds.

Please don’t climb trees to get a better view. Especially if they are cherry blossom trees. People always climb them and it is against the NPS rules and bad for the trees but there are very, very, few rangers around to educate people. If you see people doing any of these things, please ask them not to. We also don’t want the WMW to get a bad rap for any of this.

^^Great post, greenwitch!!
