Worst Dressed: When Ugly AND Expensive Meet

While I personally am not an EF fan, I know others are and like that her clothing mix and match well.

I love EF but her clothes are too expensive for me. Also I wear scrubs to work and I am a homebody. I just don’t have a place to wear them. But I love her clothes.

I like the EF look. Friends who wear it tend to use it as a backdrop for fabulous accessories, which I think works particularly well for some of us as we get older. Also, it is possible to create a minimalist wardrobe out of natural fabrics which pack very well. It is helpful in that sense that the “look” has been pretty constant since she began. I recently passed on my EF pieces to a sister. Some dresses were 20 years old and look very current, or maybe just timeless. She was delighted. I imagine she will wear them with her collection of artsy silver jewelry.

eta: I think EF can be the “in between” dressing we were talking about on a different thread. A lot of the pieces really could go anywhere depending on how they are accessorized. imo

still thinking:

I agree it’s expensive, but when I consider that I bought my dresses at end of season sales and wore them a lot a decade or so, and then kept them for travel or funerals, and now have passed them on to someone else who will make good use of them
the cost per wear gets pretty low.

My Goodwill usually has some EF. There also seems to be an ebay market for buying and selling it.

Eileen Fisher doesn’t work for me because I’m too tall but I wear a lot of Helmut Lang which has basically the same layered look and the same drab colors (but a little narrower of a silhouette).

Lately I have been feeling the need for more color in my life so I’m going to try to branch out.

All of my long cardigans are EF! In XXS.

I used to spend time with a woman who always wore “the drab look” but always with a spectacular handbag in the "it’ color of the season, a color she picked up in a brooch or earrings or her nail color or something. I always admired her style. And her handbags!!

This looks dreadful and typically Swedish. Was very expensive, too, I bet:

Stockholm Fashion Week
 is an oxymoron.

I love Eileen FIsher clothing. I’m tall, broad-shouldered, narrow-hipped. The clothes flatter my body type, or at least I think they do. They’re not all in subdued colors, either. I have an Eileen Fisher sweater in bright pink. I have a burgundy drape-front jacket that I love, and that I get compliments on every time I wear it.

I don’t like EF for myself, I do better with more structure, but I went to Nordstrom and used a personal shopper for my mother to get her some clothing for my kids’ graduations and a few other events. Wound up getting a bunch of pieces in navy that were flattering, very versatile, could be dressed up or down, or could add a pop of color with handbag or shoes. I think they were worth the price.

I assume it’s this one:http://www.stjohnknits.com/pink-roses-print-dress-k11jb41

I wouldn’t choose it, but it’s not nearly as bad as the wookie shoes, or the cat dresses or some of the other things posted here.

I agree about the pink roses dress. It’s not for me, but I have a high standard for awfulness and sadly it does not qualify. When I see the picture, do I recoil in horror? Nah. If I met someone wearing that dress, would I mentally rehearse the anecdote to tell my sisters? Nah.

Mathmom
yes thats it. Liquid satin with the knit

and what shoes does one wear? Puffy stilettos?

Hoof shoes complement any dress.

I think this shoe tops the Trash as the worst Loubotin’s design ever.

I can’t get behind Louboutins. I see them at the upscale resale shop I go to but the classic ones are just “eh” to me, no more flattering than my Anne Klein black slingbacks. And the non-classic ones are really out there!

Chewbacca Ugg Scuffette!

Now I think that Chewbacca slipper is witty. And it’s not that expensive, either.
