For me, the Judith Lieber purses don’t qualify as ugly and tasteless. I’d never ever carry one, but they seem to be cute objets d’art for those who can afford such things and like them. Look at this one:
For me, a garment or accessory qualifies for “when ugly and expensive meet” if nobody should buy it, rather than if I wouldn’t want it. Kinda like the difference between “This college is an anti-intellectual ripoff and nobody should go there” versus “This college wouldn’t suit me/my child because of X, Y, Z but I can understand why other students would choose it.”
Oy. Can’t show this to Mr. because he will want to wear his yard work clothes to the mall next time we go out!
From the description:
“These skinny-fit jeans are a cool compilation of everything AMIRI does best. Detailed with the type of appliqués you’d pick up at a thrift shop, they’re made from premium Italian stretch-denim and have cool bandana, camo and leopard-print ponyhair panels. The distressing and paint splatters are all done by hand, so no two pairs are exactly alike.”
While painting the garage, Mr. splattered some paint on his jeans… then he added some distressing when the jeans got caught on a nail… if I slap some of old kiddo’s appliqués on them, I will save us more than a thousand bucks!!
Maybe I am old-fashioned but I don’t like jeans that are ripped when you buy them. If I wear them down and rip them by use, then I might continue to wear them depending upon where I am going. I noticed a new trend where the rips are perfectly located to showcase a tattoo in that spot - having your pants frame your tattoo!
