I didn’t care for the bright yellow dress of Amal Clooney. I loved Cressida Bonas’s dress. I am also not a solid purple fan or navy or maroon for afternoon weddings but some of the floral dresses were pretty.
@lookingforward You are correct about the honorary rank of Captain General. However, his shoulder straps (what the Yanks call epaulets) indicate the rank of major, which was his active duty rank. As an FYI, William’s uniform also indicated the same rank; William’s shoulder strap differed slightly because it has an EIIR on it, indicating his position as an aide-de-camp to the queen, which also accounts for the gold braid.
I though Amal Clooney looked gorgeous, but then again when does she not?
Loved Meghan’s simple and elegant dress and loved watching little Princess Charlotte holding her “Mum’s” hand.
Ski, definitely beyond my pay (er, volunteer) grade.
@momofthreeboys, thank you for mentioning Cressida’s dress, I forgot about that. It was my favorite. Unique and very pretty.
I was also not thrilled with the messy hair and minimal makeup. You can have messy hair and no makeup tomorrow at home in your sweats. The occasion called for perfection imo.
I thought the wedding dress was perfect - simple, elegant, beautiful neckline, and the veil was exquisite. (Not trying to start a battle here, but Kate’s dress looked tacky by comparison - in my view even expensive lace can look cheap.) Meghan was one the most beautiful brides I’ve ever seen. The stray wisps of hair did bother me. I liked it that she was not wearing foundation - just eye makeup, lipstick, and maybe blush? I had not seen good photos of her mother before. There is certainly a strong resemblance. Dora looks awfully young to have a daughter Meghan’s age. I felt sad for her, with no other family members there. I’m not crazy about tiaras.
Like a previous poster, I loved the shot of the gap-toothed train-bearer over Meghan’s shoulder. The expression of joy on his face as the trumpets started to play was priceless. As usually, Prince George and Princess Charlotte were adorable. I always love seeing pictures of them.
I also loved the soprano who sang while Meghan walked down the aisle.
I agree that Amal Clooney’s dress was an awful color. She is stunningly beautiful, and I usually love her clothes, but not today.
I just saw the reception dress - fantastic!
Very beautiful wedding - I hope that they will be very happy, and that children come soon.
“Like a previous poster, I loved the shot of the gap-toothed train-bearer over Meghan’s shoulder.”
LOVED how happy that little boy looked. All I could think of was that he reminded me of Alfalfa from Little Rascals.
@bhs1978 , you’re right - he does look a bit like Alfalfa!
Perfection for whom, eyemamom and some others? Us, watching from miles away, no relation to the characters? Or her beloved and the family and friends they shared the day with? Should she have worn heavy theatrical makeup for him, lol, hidden those feckles, so that we are pleaseed? Not for me.
And her hair was fine, for me. A stray here or there is real. I loved how her hair was pulled up at the nape of her neck. We’re down to the YMMV of all this, lol. But I thought she looked like a bride, not a magazine model.
Moment of admission: I actually fret more over what the celebrants wear, the short hem on a robe or unattractive shoes (yep, noticed that.) Noticed a guest or two without stockings. Big mea culpa. It initially bugged me that when the boys let down the train, it was lopsided across the aisle, behind her. Had to take a breath.
But it’s not my wedding.
About Amal, loved how she was leaning across George to have a convo with the seatmate.
Peace.
I loved every second of the wedding telecast – including the bride’s dress. But I most especially loved seeing The Queen there; I thought she looked wonderful in that chartreuse and purple outfit! I’m really glad that she was able to see both Will and Harry find their happiness. I just think she’s quite extraordinary.
That 19-year-old young man who played the cello solo while the couple was signing the register was just outstanding.
“Noticed a guest or two without stockings.”
What’s wrong with that? I rarely wear stockings.
Just read in my local paper’s fashion blog that Kate has worn that coat dress on several previous occasions. She wore it to Princess Charlotte’s christening and an event for the Queen.
I thought Meghan looked beautiful. And Harry thought so too. “You look amazing.” " I’m so lucky. " And that’s what counts. It was sweet .
I hope the Queen & Prince Philip continue in good health until Eugenie’s October wedding. I don’t really care much for Philip, but I know the family would feel his loss if he doesn’t make it. Just because he looked fine today, doesn’t guarantee a healthy tomorrow as we saw recently at Barbara Bush’s funeral with 41. I know that’s a bit morbid, but he will be 97 soon.
Love how the queen never goes anywhere without her substantial purse.
I’m sure Meghan was wearing foundation, though one light enough to allow her very prominent freckles to peek through. I read one commentary about her makeup artist that said bronzer was use to accentuate her cheeks. So it was that gold standard of makeup that does its job while looking entirely natural. Not surprising–by age 36, everybody’s skin needs some help to survive the scrutiny of hi def TV.
I watched part of an episode of Say Yes to the Dress today (my guilty pleasure) and saw such hideous gowns that Meghan’s is looking better and better to me in retrospect. Then I got my D’s eloquent take on the dress: “It’s stupid.”
“Love how the queen never goes anywhere without her substantial purse.”
With nothing in it - according to the comms today.
The Daily Mail has the seating chart for part of the Choir part of the church. I would love to know who sat behind the Choir. I was looking to see where Fergie was sitting. I think that she was there, but away from the rest of the royals.
I really like the second Stella McCartney reception dress (and not just because I love the Beatles!)
@emilybee I’ve seen article saying she does keep things like glasses, lipstick, a pen, mints, a handkerchief, and occasionally money (to donate when she goes to church)
I’m in this camp as well. Anyone remember William and Kate’s wedding and the Archbishop of Canterbury’s eyebrows? I’m surprised his wife did not suggest a trim.
