Yale-NUS College Class of 2024

@asdssf Huh, their usage of future tense when referring to Yale decisions…That’s actually really solid. I don’t think it’s over interpretation, cuz, cmon, they wouldn’t have sent this email as early as they did if decisions would only come after the 26th.

Do you guys think it’ll be today? No updates on their Instagram so far

@spinachbrain211
Haha, thanks, you’re so sweet!
am I really the only person who is going to apply for Round 2? Maybe Yale-NUS isn’t getting enough applicants this year, hence the extension in deadline? Quite odd…

btw guys I’ve got a question.
it says on their website that the result will be announced on 1 APRIL for round 1 and 1 MAY for round 2. So if accepted, when do I confirm the offer. Where I live, I will only know my local university offers in August and the only university abroad I applied is Singapore ! If admitted, can I hold my place until then?

@yalenushopeful Not necessarily! I’m guessing more and more people will come in the following days.

I don’t think so. I think it’s because of the covid-19 that has messed things up. Many schools are closed these days, and students have to travel home or somewhere. It’s also a psychologically difficult time, so we all need time to calm down and focus on the application. Yale-NUS is always very competitive.

got it. thanks @spinachbrain211 and @webuyourselves. btw which countries are you from and what did you write about for your 2 essays. lastly, what is something that set you apart from others in your application?

@yalenushopeful

I’m pretty sure us round 1 people have to commit by May 1st, so round 2 would have to do so by June 1st. Check with Yale NUS to see if this is correct though!

As for the note about your local schools only releasing decisions by August— that would be very tricky since YNC starts freshie orientation late July… Check their calendar, I’m pretty sure new students have to move in before August. I really doubt they’d be able to let you hold your place till August.

@spinachbrain211 oh noo…

@yalenushopeful I have a PR Chinese passport and attend an American high school in Singapore.

For my personal statement, I wrote about me learning Chinese medicine and how that enlightened me about my personality and sparked me to be more service-oriented and less achievement- driven. It was a weird essay.

For my supplement, I wrote about my ability to make unconventional decisions and take risks. Illustrated it by describing how I quit the local Chinese school system in search of an international education.

I think the things that set me apart were my essays (they were pretty weird, in a unique way), and my work experience. I had three internships and one startup experience.

@spinachbrain211 oh I see. what other schools did you guys apply to??

I think the cancellation of EYW might have slowed the process since if EYW was happening, they would need to release the decisions sooner so that international students can figure out visa issues. But now, without EYW, they can take their time to release decisions.

hi guys! I’ve just submitted my application this morning. I’m 17 and I’m a first generation Hong Kong citizen. Hope the application comes through for all of us ?

I had a pretty vivid dream last night about how I got a ton of admitted students emails telling me to sign up for activities and housing but my portal was never updated… I woke up super happy yet confused. Yale-NUS please come through I really do be losing sleep

@yalenushopeful
I’ve wanted to attend YALENUS for quite a few years now and for my essay I wrote about the HK Protests, explaining my participation and experience. However, I hope the admission team does not see me as a radical rebel in any way. That would break my heart and devastate me.

@134679258 Oof, dang, that’s a sharp topic, considering Singapore, and considering how YNC recently shut down a course on political dissent. Still, all the best to you and your application! I hope your dreams come true :smile:

yes but as a Hong Kong student, I think having preconceived notions about us is bound to happen. that’s why I thought I should address it… even writing the essay was incredibly difficult…
I hope the admission team will be open-minded and compassionate enough to understand where I’m coming from :smile:

is it coming out today at 3pm?

@nicolas13120 No idea! Maybe…

@nicolas13120 not sure. Still no updates on their IG or Facebook page! I’ve been checking every 10 minutes and I really got to stop. It should be by tomorrow though based on all the “evidence”.
