Yale-NUS College Class of 2024

Some last year’s applicant said that their IG got updated after the decisions are released. Don’t know this year. Let’s hope for 3 p.m.

@134679258 I’ve actually asked my interviewer a question about student activism/political dissent. They assured me that there is absolutely no censorship on campus and in class, and that while students, especially international students, can’t actively protest, they find other ways to express themselves and their opinions (in my interview, they mentioned art works.) So i believe that if anything, your civil activism will be a boost for your application. All the luck!

@ynot12 thank you for letting me know this. it’s very reassuring ! I think the best way to express myself is through finding middle ground with people of diverse backgrounds. if I’m admitted, I can’t wait to converse with all of you!

Grrrrrr…I hope it comes out today!!

Maybe let’s talk in the meantime? What in particular about Yale-NUS attracted you guys? Did you look through https://admissions.yale-nus.edu.sg/campus/? What is something you look forward to the most once you arrive on campus? We might have so little time left for daydreaming about college!

I’d be super excited about suitemates, decorating my room, talking to different people and forging relationships !

which residential college are you guys hoping to be in, haha

I would be in the Class of 2025 because I’m currently serving my National Service

Well, hold on there. You wouldn’t want students falling even more in love for the school before the decisions come out though… because the odds aren’t great and it just hurts more…

@sumguy I’m already in love so I doubt it’ll hurt more :pensive:

I’ll second that @ynot12

which other universities have you guys applied to ?

@ynot12 AHAHAHAH, I have one hell of a story.

I live in Singapore, so I heard abt YNC through a dinner party with my mom, her friends, and their children. I was a freshmen at the time, and one of the other daughters at that dinner was studying at YNC. She was one of the first graduating classes at YNC, and suggested I visit the school.

I was an itsy-bitsy 14 year-old, but I visited anyway. I fell in love with their campus and dorm rooms at first, and how it’s all in suites but single rooms. Best of both worlds— you live within a community but still have privacy. I’m still super excited about their residential living till this day. I’ve already decided that I’d go join the buttery and cook there if I get admitted, since I love fusion cooking and food all around the world.

Also, the girl who led the campus tour was super super inspiring. Her name was Chandler, and she was a business women who played on the schools soccer team. She dips class to attend business conferences, ahahahha. She had so much energy and passion about life and learning, and I was just like — dang, I wanna be with people like her, and I also wanna be her.

Then, sophomore year, I wanted to know more about the actual content and classes at Yale NUS, so I made the girl I met at the dinner party sneak me into one of their classes (talk about risk-taking…). It was at the beginning of a semester and classes were still in add-drop period, so anyone can sit in and the prof wouldn’t take attendance. Since I was interested in psychology, she sneaked me into a intro to psych class. We learned about dreams and the prof brought biscuits for all of us to share. I even asked her a question after class ended. I have no idea how she didn’t kick me out since it was so obvious i was still in high school and a tiny kid.

Junior year, I attended their open day and got to listen to a philosophy lecture. I remember that the prof was talking about Chinese philosophy and Mencius, and I kinda wanted to cry because when people talk about philosophy, it’s always Plato Aristotle Socrates. YNC was the only place that talked abt someone who I knew from my bedtime stories growing up, and something that I could resonate with. It was truly cross-cultural and I loved it. I ended up talking to the AO who was in charge of my school for a good hour at open day. I also told him I sneaked into a lecture. He laughed for a good two minutes and told me that was so interesting. It was great.

So TL;DR: am living in Singapore and heard abt YNC through dinner. Sneaked into a class and was bribed by the prof’s cookies into loving YNC. Am now obsessed w the school and really want to get in.

If you showed this kind of love towards the school while you were talking to that AO I can’t imagine any sane AO who wouldn’t want you there. That said, there are no guarantees, so keep expectations low and be pleasantly surprised.

That was a lovely read though. Thanks for sharing.

@134679258 Thats me toooo! I’m so excited for residential living.

@sumguy Awwww thanks! I hope we can all be classmates.

Spinachbrain211, you have such a lovely interest in the college! I can feel your love, and I truly hope you could get IN! And you will!

@webuyourselves ahhhh I wish! I also hope you get in too!

@134679258 Agree, I think that everybody is excited about residential colleges. More than anything, I just want a single room already after living with my sibling for 18 years  Something I want to do though is check out facilities and join a sports team. Thankfully the season of the sport I play (basketball) ended before the quarantine but I miss the feeling of dribbling the ball.

@spinachbrain211 your passion is truly admirable! I wouldn’t ever have the courage to sneak into a college class haha. You will get in for sure, I just know it

Hey guys!

Good luck to all the round 2 hopefuls!

@spinachbrain211 wow that’s one amazing story. If your application showed even a fraction of this interest I’m sure you have a great shot!!

@ynot12 Hahahaha I relate so hard to sharing a room with siblings!! I’m in the same situation haha.

I’m an international kid, so I really just stumbled across YNC because I noticed a link to it on the NUS website in 11th grade. I read through their website and it was everything I was looking for in a college - small classes, liberal arts (and in Asia too!), amazing research opportunities, a great community. I could picture myself just fitting right in and I fell in love with this place basically, even though I had only looked at it via the campus tours on the internet.

I spent a lot of time trying to find current students to talk to and everyone I spoke to just seemed really enthusiastic and passionate about the place.

Typing all this just increases my apprehension now though, I’ll be incredibly sad if I don’t make it.

Anyway, I’m guessing we should just wait for results again -today or tomorrow seem likely
