Frustrating. Understandable given COVID, but frustrating nonetheless. Grr.

The lady who picks up the phone is probably a front desk assistant who isn’t involved in the admissions process. There isn’t a way for us to get hold of the actual admissions officers. Poor lady, must have been getting so many calls asking about this.
Take it lightly. I called WashU office the other day, frustrated by their reply of April 1st. However, the decision came out in less than an hour.

Side track-- all this waiting really makes me want to go work in the admissions office some day. SOOOO many secrets. I really want to experience all of this.
Maybe we could ease our waiting anxiety by bringing back the topics about how we found YNC and what our essays were about? I am really curious about you guys, it seems we’re all very different but also very similar to each other!
Everyone who has shared something so far seems like a right fit for the school, honestly. I am sure the AOs will take that into account! I hope we all hear positive replies as soon as possible (preferably today or tomorrow, hahahah).
As for me, I found out about YNC through a friend of mine who learned about it through the life-update tweets of a student! When this friend first applied, I thought: “This college is definitely cool, I wish her the best of luck, but won’t try applying myself - the chances are so low anyway.” Then, she got shortlisted for an interview, and as soon as that happened, I started my SAT prep and brainstorming my essays (in February 2019!). She later got accepted and is now studying there, and I live vicariously through her stories about the college and the people there.
In my main essay, I wrote about the blog I created when I was just 11, how it somehow got popular and suddenly, my whole life was on the Internet by the time I was 16. I spoke about the negative impact it had on my self-perception, how I realized I was trying to convince the “world” and myself I was someone else, and how I eventually deleted 5 years worth of writing from the Internet because of the reasons listed.
In my supplement, I talked about going live on the radio and how terrifying but also liberating speaking in real time is. I shared my initial apprehention about this new activity, my feelings when I first went live, and some of the realisations I had about the freedom of speech while being live.

Asking a friend from EYW last year to check for me. She was surprised they’re not already out yet, but she mentioned she’ll ask for me. Maybe some of the students who are in admissions will be willing to share.
And yeah I definitely think that the response you got is just what she was told to tell people. Essentially no new information gained.
@surejen Holy dang, your life sounds very interesting. We really should start keeping a collection of stats and stories for next year. So that they can have a good read, but also a perception of where they fall in so they can be less anxious.
@surejen I also had a similar experience, not as large scale as you though! I used to post my writing in Chinese on Chinese social media. It also got popular, and I wrote so much-- around 200k characters. But towards the end, the internet environment on the app I posted on got yucky, so I sort of just ended my writing there and started putting my word vomit outlet towards school. I joined a research and writing course my senior year that took up 6 of my course credits (huge risk… it was a new program at the school and very doubted upon). It turned out to be great and I’m happily chomping my way through research papers at the moment. Great to know that we have so many talented people aiming for YNC!
@spinachbrain211 That would be great actually, maybe a Google Drive of the essays of shortlisted applicants would be a great read not only for prospective students, but for us as well 
I would at least very much like to read your essays (they sound very interesting) and those of others willing to share

I’ve randomly refreshed that admitted students page and now it says I don’t have access? Maybe they’ve gone through this thread and saw us speculating? Can anybody else please check?
@ynot12 Yeah they definitely just made the group private. Doesn’t necessarily mean they see this thread tho but I can’t see it either so they changed the permissions.
btw I was doing some calculations based on last year
applicants: 10035
acceptance rate: 6%
class size: 246
that means that in total around 602 students were offered a place.
I also heard that interview is usually given to 14%.
that means interview is given to 1405 people.
which means your chance at admission is likely 43% which is quite likely !
so don’t worry too much, I’m sure YNC would be lucky to have any one of you

@ynot12 Dang, I can’t see it either now. I’m pretty sure it’s either a fb crash or it’s because too many people have been stalking it and accidentally joining (I accidentally requested the parent group yesterday… rip…) so they closed it? I don’t know, but very very interesting.
@spinachbrain211 Woah, but at least you turned your creativity towards something really meaningful! I’d always wanted to take part in research, however I’ve never had the opportunity (I hope this changes once I go to college somewhere). I, on the other hand, have been in a writing slump ever since I deleted my blog, so nothing really remarkable about my story here I have turned to editing instead, now I criticise the writing of others, hahaaha. I think this further proves how easy it is to give someone a false idea of yourself when you’re online, so I guess I chose the right essay topic for myself

It could mean they switched it to “hidden” instead of “visible,” meaning only people who are invited to be part of it can see it.
