Yale-NUS College Class of 2024

@farmerboy20 Yup, why did they do that though. And also, only to the student group? The parent group is still there.

So… I actually wasn’t that interested in YNC when I was applying, but I’ve always wanted to study in Asia rather than the US and I was applying to Yale anyways (Asian parents haha) so I checked the box… I didn’t want to go to Singapore specifically because I didn’t (and still don’t) agree with some of its political aspects. So I wasn’t all that excited before I got shortlisted. After I’ve started preparing for an interview tho… I fell in love with the school and now I wish I wrote about all the things I discovered in my optional Why YNC essay :pensive:

So since I shared my application through Common App, I only had to write a Common App essay. It’s pretty interesting to see that @surejen wrote about their Internet experiences cuz my essay was about that too! I talked about how I had an obsession for creating aliases with different personalities on social media… I distinctly remember the topic yet now that I think about it I forgot what the resolution was. I haven’t looked at my essay after submitting all of my apps cuz I think the cringe will be too much.

My main essay was about how I’m extremely interested in many of life’s biggest questions. One example would be: What lies outside the observable Universe? I know a 75 year old psychologist who’s extremely interested in such topics as well and I frequently speak to him about it. In my free time I also read up on many theories which people may have. I hope to eventually major in Life Sciences!

My additional essay was about my parachuting experiences as someone who was extremely afraid of heights. I’m currently serving my National Service as a Commando which is why I’ve to parachute.

@ttplucas Oooh I’m a prospective Life Sciences major too!! And our essays are similar

I wrote about how I tried paramotoring because I was afraid of heights and loved it (for the why try something new prompt)

Guys, we’ve flipped 22 pages on this thread already. I remember last years thread being only 10 pages when round 1 results hit. We’re a talkative group

@surejen @spinachbrain211 Oh, and btw, I used to do creative writing too but now that I’m “retired” I turned to translations! Glad to see that we all continued to do something related to this albeit in different ways

@ttplucas Holy parachuting sounds super fun! This is really cool. In my country draft evasion is very widespread so it’s kinda weird thinking about kids my age serving rn.

@blrcollegekid24 Nice! Do you plan to pursue postgraduate studies? I really love the Life Sciences and find passion in it. What a coincidence! I also wrote about parachuting under the why try something new prompt

@ynot12 which country are you from? I’ve a year or so more to serve so I’ll sadly be in the Class of 2025 if I get in. So when you guys are Sophomores I’d be a Freshie. Parachuting at 1000 feet was indeed an amazing an unforgettable experience!

@ttplucas I’m from Central Asia, a post-Soviet country. It’s easy to dodge a draft with a simple bribe or through making up an illness. I can’t really blame those who choose to do so because the conditions in the military are pretty awful. I think that if trying out parachuting was available draftees would be much more excited about serving tho!

@ynot12 Parachuting can be kind of scary though! All in all it’s a great experience though.

I really hope decisions are released tomorrow. Been such a long wait!

@ttplucas I’m not too sure at the moment. I’m also kind of interested in PPE, so I might do something in that field too.
Either way, I definitely want to go to grad school at some point

@blrcollegekid24 Nice! I definitely want to go to graduate school. Hopefully we all get in. All the best everybody. If decisions do not come out tonight hopefully they do by tomorrow

@ttplucas I also want to major in Life Sciences if I were to study at Yale-NUS. Also, it looks like they removed the Yale-NUS Admitted Students 2020 FB page or made it hidden. But still, no news about when the results will be released.

@BTMmors All the best to you too! Glad to see all these prospective Life Science majors. Yea I noticed that about their FB page as well. Hopefully the decisions are released tomorrow. Or we’ll probably have to wait till Thurs/Fri already

At least give us a date. The wait is killing me!!

I am taking a “bleh whenever” attitude towards waiting for decisions now. Conspiracy theory: a watched pot never boils, so if we all go blehhh about decisions, maybe then it will come, AHHAHAHA.

@spinachbrain211 hahahaha. Yep, let’s just wait for the email/IG post and THEN start to freak out lolol. I don’t think I can handle this much stress on a daily basis until they release decisions.

Aiyo I see CC notifications saying Ivy day is the 26th… I seriously will be surprised if YNC decides to release after Ivies. SMH.

Yeah if it doesn’t come out tonight I will be genuinely shocked because of the whole Ivy Day thing. If it comes out at 3pm Singapore time that’s 2am for me…so I guess I’m staying up late again to see if anything happens!

same here. I’ve been waiting since Sunday night (which is Monday afternoon in singapore) and I guess I’m staying up again today lol
