hey @Rayyss check ur inbox, I sent u a msg

hi! i discovered this forum while googling about interview tips! i received an interview invite. just wondering if anybody has gone for their interview here alr?

Hi Round 2 applicants! I am a Round 1 admit for this year and I thought sharing my stats/extracurriculars/ experiences might help you guys. I think other Round 1 admits should do this too! Little about me, I am an international student that received almost a full-ride to Yale-NUS and received a book allowance award that covers the book expenses.

Stats:
SAT: I didn’t submit SAT or SAT Subject Test scores because my school is based in a country where the exams were not offered.
GPA: 3.99/4.0 Unweighted and 4.3/4.0 Weighted
Class Rank: Our school doesn’t do class rank but I know I am in running for the Valedictorian.
AP: 4’s and 5’s on AP Calculus, AP World History, AP Seminar, AP Research, AP Chinese, AP Micro econ, AP Psychology and currently taking four other AP’s

Extracurriculars:
Student Gov. President, Varsity Volleyball Captain, Service Club President/Founder, Honors Band, Impromptu Speaking and Debate, NEHS, Trilingual Translator, all of which I did for at least 3 years

Interview Experience:
The atmosphere was really chill and relaxing, but unlike other interviews that I did, they knew quite about me already, such as my extracurricular activities so some of their questions were tailored to my activities. I think the best advice I can give is to download your application prior and look over it carefully, especially the extracurricular section and maybe even practice a little discussing it. And of course, research about the school and mention specific areas/examples that got your attention about Yale-NUS. Most importantly, convey your true self! I think one point they are looking at is how well you fit in their community, so just be the real you and take the interview as a conversation rather than a formal interview! You guys got it!

Hi everyone, I’m a round 2 applicant and I was just wondering if anyone had any idea on how long the admissions committee take to send out interviews? I submitted my app on March 24 so it would’ve been 2 weeks by now but I still have yet to hear from them and it’s making me really anxious :frowning:

Hi guys, I need some help :< I submitted my SAT and AP scores through the College Board, but the Yale-NUS portal still indicates that my score has not been received (I sent them on the 17th March).

I reached out to YNC to check, and they just tell me if you have submitted, we trust that it will arrive. They told me my counselor could email them the scores, but mine said she doesn’t want to send scores that are not issued by my school for fear of responsibility (she’s from a public school so she doesn’t really understand. YNC also said for round 2 applicants, the SAT has become optional due to COVID-19.

I’m really worried about my SAT and AP not being taken into the admission consideration, since my GPA is low (3.4 unweighted) but my SAT and APs are good (1570 /1600 single-take and four 5’s, two 4’s). Though my CV is solid, my essays are kinda average (the best I could produce though) so every bit helps.

I have reached out to College Board asking if they can check the score report I ordered again. Do you have any other advice? Thanks a lot!

ahh is there anyone w interview tips :-// i just got my interview invite yesterday (and for a local applicant, its pretty late?) and it feels so surreal because i was so sure that my stats cant compare to those that i’ve been reading here but any help would be great!! ync has been a dream school for so long and i hope i can make it

@mustardpurple hey! may I ask when did you submit your application? I’m a local applicant too and I’ve not heard any news so it’s been making me really stressed out :frowning:

@Minminchim i submitted on 27th march! and don’t stress out too much!! they did say it can take 2-4 weeks to shortlist candidates so just wait awhile more :")

@mustardpurple ohhh I see I see, yeah I heard about the 2-4 weeks but I’m pretty down because I submitted my app on the 24th of March but I’ve not heard any news so far. :’) if it’s alright with you could you share your stats?

@mustardpurple poppin in! j did my interview a few days back. i prepared a lot of questions abt why ync or why my prospective major n those questions were not asked haha i was bummed out. so it rly depends. mine was rly 99% based off my application (which i didn’t read thru so I rly forgot a lot that I wrote). so j be sure to think on the spot quick, be engaging, show your interests and even if the questions are tough (i had curveball questions for sure), just be sure to answer w confidence haha and think abt ur interests in depth. all the best  i didn’t do well in mine, so pls do well haha learn from my mistakes. :,)

@curiousburrito i have!! ask me anyth if u wna

@Minminchim ah ok, so i’m from a local jc and took the a levels last year, honestly, i scored pretty average? like high 70rp which definitely puts me at a disadvantage compared to the 90rp people and i guess what saved me would be my extracurriculars and essays. i took up a few research programmes in the past and won an award for my most recent one and i mentioned presenting my research in various fairs, was involved in the planning of a community service event and had the chance to compete in the national school games for my sports cca. its not much so i honestly don’t know what they see in me HAHAH but yea!! hopefully they get back to you soon

@godswillnway oh man :(( but thank u so much for ur tips!! got kinda nervous reading your comment bc i’m not super confident in my interview skills AHHAHA

@godswillnway hey! haha i actually did my interview yesterday alr so alls good! though i don’t really know if i did well though haha

@mustardpurple hey there! im a local applicant as well! i just had my interview recently but i don’t really know if mine went well or not bc i think its kinda hard to judge? bc idk what they’re looking for exactly! for mine, they sorta kept to the things i mentioned in my application so i guess just be yourself and honest with your answers! they asked me a number of questions about my life in the previous school i attended/just graduated from! it was pretty chill and they genuinely just want to know who you are as a person. mine asked me abit about the curriculum so you should definitely look through their curriculum and see if you have any questions to ask as well! all the best!

@curiousburrito ohh alright! thank u so muchh, hopefully we’ll all get in :"")

@mustardpurple u can do it! :)) be confident!! ure gna smash it hehe

@curiousburrito right, it’s the post interview nerves man like idk how to feel abt it. sigh guess we hafTA wait 3 more weeks

how did all u guys interview go, I’m so nervous for the result, also do u guys know any info about round 2 admits? do less students get admitted

hey guys! do you think interview invitees are still being sent out for round 2?
kind of losing hope a little… :frowning:
