@maddy09 Hey! I’m from India too and I haven’t gotten an interview either.
Maybe it’s because I applied on the 15th? I really don’t know but this is kind of freaking me out now.
What date did you apply?

Hi! I was just offered an interview by Yale-NUS. Is it possible to get into Yale-NUS without having completed the Why Yale-NUS essay?
@swishswosh I applied through Yale application on Jan 1st. Submitted the Yale Nus essay on 13th Jan.
Still havent heard back from them.
@lsutiger25 Wait does it mean that you got shortlisted without submitting the why Yale-NUS essay? Or are you just genuinely curious? I don’t exactly know the answer for it though hahaha should definitely be better to submit it. Congrats for the shortlist!
@kaikys Thanks! Yeah, I was shortlisted without submitting the Why Yale-NUS essay for round one. Will not submitting that essay hinder me at this point?
Hi! I’m applying from India. Has anybody in India been shortlisted for the interview? I applied through the common app to Yale NUS and submitted my app on the 14th of Jan.
Korean student here:) Shortlisted for the interview on Jan. 30 and completed the interview!
@lsutiger25 I’m really not sure but I do recommend you to submit one as there should be a reason Yale-NUS required us to write the essay!
@Naldo111 Jeez finally a Korean on the thread! When did you submit your application? And do you live in Korea? I’m also a Korean but I live somewhere else hahaha How did your interview go? I’m so frustrated for not getting an interview request yet.
Just a quick question to those who already got shortlisted. How were you contacted when they were informing you about the shortlist? The Yale-NUS undergrad admission email or directly from the interviewer?
I submitted mine on the day it was due and I also live somewhere else hahaha. It was just a relaxing conversation and an opportunity for them to know me and for me to know more about the school. I’m sure there’s more coming! Best of luck to you!
Is it normal to be interviewed by a student?
@kaikys The undergrad admissions email! I didn’t get contacted or know who my interviewer was until I saw him during the interview, haha! They send you an email from their official admissions account telling you that you’ve been shortlisted, and there will be a link to your portal in said email. Your portal will then give you instructions to sign up for an interview slot.
@lsutiger25 Yeah yeah yeah for sure, I was interviewed by a student! In fact, the bulk of their interviews, especially international student interviews, are conducted by student officers. Don’t worry, the students are all very qualified and they also got notes and/or will have read some parts of your application before interviewing you. You’re not at a disadvantage if you didn’t get interview by an admissions officer.
Hi! Does anyone know if Yale-NUS requires your Mid-Year Grades?
Do you have to self report them or does the school counsellor have to send them in?
Hey. I’m from India. Still haven’t received an interview invite. Till when should I keep hope? I mean, when is the latest you can receive an invite?
@svr2020 Same! I’m from India too and I submitted on the 15th itself. Kinda starting to worry now
If you don’t get shortlisted for an interview, does it automatically mean that you’re rejected?
@swishswosh I heard that you can get waitlisted to the next round
@swishswosh Not necessarily! It either means rejection or, like @chococookies said, waitlisted to round 2. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone being accepted without an interview.
I’m a U.S. applicant and am also beginning to worry about getting an interview invite. Looks like last year they still sent out some interview invites, but what are my chances at this point? I also submitted my optional essay after the 15th, so I’m not sure how that plays into all of it. I applied through common app via Yale.
