Is this anecdotal or have you seen data to show application numbers? I’d be interested to see that.

Hi everyone! I’m new to CC and joined because I was told about this thread from a kind person on reddit. My son was accepted REA to Yale last year. Praying our daughter gets accepted in 7 days! AHHH! The nerves! You don’t choose Yale, Yale chooses you! Oh my. I think my daughter’s application is stronger than my son’s, but what do I know? And I don’t even think that matters necessarily since there are so many strong applicants. AHH! <3
Did your son have an alumni interview?
He did and she did.
Hi! I see you made it over, good luck to your daughter and everyone here!
Thank you! I made it! I wrote you on reddit. Thank you so much. Always nice to go through things with others rather than alone. <3
I don’t think you need to be worried about not having an interview. Only 10 percent of applicants who are interviewed are accepted, I read somewhere (not sure where). I think it’s all just a rough process with so many exceptional applicants. If you’re a viable applicant to Yale, you’ll a viable applicant everywhere else, imo.
10% with an interview were accepted but what’s the converse statistic?
I mean its only really necessary if they “need more information” so maybe I was able to write well enough to convey myself to the admissions office? We’ll see
i think essays are key. what were your intended areas of interest? Ethics and Politics? Your ECs were focused around your talent in debate, so hopefully you were able to connect your passion there with your intended major. Best of luck!
Anyone else have the FAFSA disappear from the finaid part of the portal? I only have the CSS in mine
Hey everybody. Seems like the admissions checklist has been taken down temporarily for every REA applicant. Does this happen every year and does anyone have a guess as to why this may be?
I still have it
Ohh the financial aid checklist
I think its because people were speculating it was connected with an admissions decision
Yes, happened to us last year. I don’t know why Yale does it, but my child got deferred REA and than rejected.
do you mean the financial aid checklist or admissions material checklist?
Financial aid checklist is down for me
Hmm, that’s interesting.
It seems like it’s the normal experience for everybody right now, so I’m sure it’s probably not indicative.
Did the checklist ever come back up for your child and were student IDs ever distributed?
Honestly I don’t remember if the checklist came back. But going through the admissions process with two kids I want to say none of the portals had any indications either way. The blankest portal to me was Harvard and that is where one of my kids is now. So you never know.
