Your SU Guru | Ask Me Anything

Their seems to be no rhythm in decisions. In 2008, I received my acceptance during the 2nd wave. But I’m not so sure how many waves there were total.

Okay, so i checked my financial aid today and it stated that “You have no financial awards at this time.” Does this mean I’m not getting financial aid?

ok, now I’m insulted imanicollegehelp; you hurt my feelings!!! lol…

House of London and my daughter are both juniors…so he can be the student guru…

I will stick to what I know best; admissions stuff and Newhouse; he can answer all the rest…

carry on, house…

Rodney, I think you and I both can carry on the job. :D

Michael52, if you applied for aid and all your documents are in, you should be fine. It just means your aid has not been processed yet. Give the financial aid office a call to verify. (315) 443 - 1513

Can you get university credit for working at an internship the summer before freshman year for VPA CRS?

Depends on the internship and what the department of CRS says but im pretty sure it’s possible.

how is the multicultural spring program?

MSP is great! You should go. It’s really your opportunity to know whether SU is right for you.

[Events for Admitted Students](http://www.syr.edu/futurestudents/undergraduate/admitted_students/events4admitted_folder/multicultural_spring_program.html)

how is the schedule for msp? is it all strictly educational or do they plan fun events also?

Hi; I’m hoping you can give me some insight. My daughter just got into her second choice: VPA School for Comm/Design, her first choice was Newhouse, didn’t think to put in a third choice to School A&S. She has diverse interests and while artistically talented, isn’t “artsy”, also being Speech and Debate Captain and a varsity athlete (soccer & LAX); is there a “type” in that program? She is also a little nervous about committing to VPA Comm/Design major as it is so focused in the event she changes her mind. However, she loves SU and would really like to go there. Any insights? Thanks so much!

So my S got accepted into COE for the exercise science major. He put this on App I think not totally realizing that he would be commiting and accepted only to that “college” and a major. It seems from what I have now read that it would have been better to at least try for a duel college with A&S to have more flexibility to try other possible majors. COE seems limited if you dont end up wanting to be a teacher. Any advice?. We go to visit in April, and Syracuse is his first choice but we are concerned that he will be not have flexibility to study his other interests including math, accounting, music if he only has COE major choices. Thanks. Also what is reputation in general of COE?

how difficult is the course load for marketing majors at Whitman?

I’m a harpist and I wanna play harp in college, though I’m not going to major or minor in any music major. I saw that SU offers harp classes (I’m guessing theyre lessons) for non-music majors, but I’m unsure about the availability of a harp for me to play. I’m from Texas and there is no practical way for me to get my harp to NY, and I’m not sure you’d have any ideas about this, but do you know if students in my situation would have access to a harp? I’m sure a music major could probably deal with this more easily, but since I’m not planning to be in the music program I’m not sure.

cuse21,

You attend one or two lectures and the rest is all recreational and social.

NyMomkd,

Communications Design is one of the HARDEST majors on campus. Professors are very anal in details and the standards are very high (similar to Architecture). If it’s not a definite that she will stay in the major, I would advise her not to waste her time and instead work towards Newhouse. She should at least take one class in Comm Design to asses whether it’s for her or not. Comm Design is absolutely no joke and the program at SU is highly ranked.

I don’t know if there is a certain “type” in the Comm Design program but I can imagine them sharing the same attributes as the Architecture students.

Hi agfmomx3,

If by “COE” you mean the College of Human Ecology, then I’m not quite sure what the reputation of the school is but it is definite that he can pick up another major in Arts & Sciences because as you said, exercise science can be very limiting.

lilptrsn,

It’s in the Setnor School of Music so I’m pretty sure Harps would be provided for you to practice with. If you can find a way to bring your harp to school then go for it. Im not sure if the school lets you take home harps to practice with, which is why I suggested at least trying to bring your harp from home.

Sorry, I meant he got into the college of education. Any feedback on that and on flexibility to do a major or a double major in one of the other colleges such as Arts and Sciences? Thanks.

When do season tickets for basketball and football go on sale? Can you buy them when you’re on campus or do you have to buy them in the summer before you arrive?

summer time is when they go on sale and you can purchase them on suathletics.com

Being a full retail type, meaning i always seem to miss out on deals, wondering about textbook prices at Syracuse and the scoop on rental, etc. I’ve been in private school for 17 years and the books in HS cost a fortune. Thoughts on finally getting this right? PS, see everyone in the Fall!!!

HoL, what’s the experience at SU going to be for a kid who’s not into the party scene? Will he or she find people to hang out with and stuff to do? I notice that just one floor of one dorm is dedicted to the SF housing.

do you know how they decide who goes out in which wave of application decisions? or if it makes any difference at all when they send yours out?
