Oh, good question, randomazn
I didn’t notice that the RAL gold key list had individual poem winners on it.
If all three of my poems were listed, does that mean all three qualified, or are they just listing the entire collection?

Hi,

I found out I won a gold key in the poetry section for RAL, but I only submitted one poem…does this mean my work won’t be eligible at nationals?

Either way it’s fine though, the gold key is more than I expected :)

I thought any gold key works would be forwarded to nationals?

Wow, just found out that my freshman S won gold keys for two poems. Last year he won a gold for a short story. Can you guys hear my screams of joy?

I got a Gold Key for Poetry
@ RenaissanceMom, congratulations!

Okay – confused again – my son won 5 gold keys for 5 paintings (individual works), then a gold key for his portfolio as a whole – what goes to nationals now, only the whole portfolio or do they also judge indiviual works?

Mykidwouldkillme - at nationals, they’ll judge his works as a portfolio and separately as well. It’s possible your son could win medals for some of his works individually but nothing for his portfolio, or the other way around.

Congrats to you and your son!

Eszebel, thanks for the info. That’s helpful … now i wish they’d just get that judging done! But i suppose that’s still several weeks off … oh well.

DC writing region results are out, listed on the Writopia webpage. (My daughter got a gold key and a silver key for poetry).

I am so anxious about the writing results, it’s ridiculous.

I honestly had a dream last week that I got like 4 silver keys but no gold keys. I WANT A GOLD KEY so freakin’ bad.

Apparently, I should know by next week.

Has anyone from North Carolina heard anything back yet?

I literally found out about this a day before the deadline, and I never got a teacher’s signature for my writing pieces…but apparently they didn’t notice, because I still got a silver key, haha. I’m a senior, so I just applied for the heck of it because I didn’t have enough pieces for a portfolio, so I’m happy, haha.

i got 2 gold keys for writing, wooo!
i was in region at large though…does anyone know if they give out more gold keys in RAL than they normally do in other regions because in RAL there are no silver keys?
I never realized that literally hundreds of people win gold keys, which is pretty great, but it makes my win seem more insignificant, haha.

i feel like it would be probably harder to get a gold key if your in RAL. because i think they have to give out the same amount of gold keys as the affiliates…but i might be wrong.

and don’t feel like yours is insignificant! you just have to think about how many people entered and how many different categories there is

Does anyone have any idea when nationals are judged (for art) ? I know it’s supposed to be March, but does anyone know if it’s early March, late March, or on any specific date?

they say the results come out march 11th on the website for nationals.

“National Award recipients will be announced via our Online Notification System on March 11, 2011.”

…hope that helps.

haha, I felt insignificant when I first saw the list as well. But think of it this way: over 12,000 works were submitted, and only 1000 received gold keys. That’s about 8%, which is very close to the acceptance rates at the most brutal colleges.

Anyone know when they tell us in CA/when it came out last year? I wasn’t able to go to the awards ceremony and they said they’d email us at “the end” of February. But I want to send an update to schools…!

Thanks for the info on the 3/11 date. No idea why i couldn’t find it on the web site, but now I’ll circle it on the calendar.

thanks littlepenguin and chloe8595! you guys made me feel better, haha.
i’m still proud!
it’s a really great opportunity to get our work out there, i’m so glad i entered!
good luck to everyone in the nationals!
