Cool, congrats! My S got a Gold for his portfolio too :).

interesting we have so many moms here, are the kids not on CC or are the parents just more excited than their kids? :D

It’s well known that the kid or the parent can be on CC, but not both.

Hmm… I’ve never received an email about if I won an award or not but I received a letter in the mail saying I won a Gold Key for an artwork…

Is there a list for non-RAL winners? I don’t think I am a RAL winner since I didn’t see my name on it and I’m pretty sure I had a region, haha…

Just a quick question: I took two high school level courses in grade eight (Algebra and Spanish 1) and they will be on my transcript. If I also won two Gold Key awards that year, could I put them on my application? They were for photography.

I would only put them on if you won more awards for photography in later years.

Hi, I recently received a Gold Key for the Region at Large part of the Scholastic National Art and Writing Awards. I was wondering…does my work automatically get submitted into national judging? Do I have to do something in order to get my work judged nationally? Also, is the judging based on category? (My category is science fiction/fantasy.) Thanks!

CALIFORNIA WRITING PROJECT RESULTS CAME OUT! - at least, for Silver, Gold, and Am. Voices nominees.

Hmm…

My poetry collection received a Gold Key and was an American Voices Nominee, but sadly, my science fiction piece totally floundered. It didn’t even get a Merit Award. is sad

It’s automatic–you don’t have to do anything. And yes, it will be judged in its category.

Hi, just curious here - the website said that 12,000 students received Gold Keys (all categories combined). I received one in Poetry - does a statistic like this probably mean that the number of poets competing at nationals will be less than 1,000?

how prestigious is the american voices nominee

Got my cool pin and certificate in the mail today :D

it says teachers get mail/notified, too?

Gold Key in Poetry, silver in everything else :P

My teacher was notified and not me, for some reason… If he were a jerk, I would never have known about it. What am I saying – he IS a jerk! But a cool jerk. :D

Did anyone on here enter the Video Game/Novel categories? I did…just curious…

@decrescendo: You could do a CTRL+F for “Poetry” on the .pdfs of the gold key recipients to find out exactly how many of us there are.

Number of Poetry Gold Keys per area:

West - 59
International - 12
Midwest - 113
South - 239
Northeast - 356

So there’s 779 total, give or take a few for my faulty counting. I’m not sure what this means for us though…

Hi. I’m new here and was wondering if winning honorable mention in the scholastic art and writing awards is good enough to put on a college application. And also off topic but does the scholastic art and writing awards have something against persuasive writing? That’s what I won in but looking back at past results I can see very few people win wards for persuasive writing.

^what do you mean? Maybe there just weren’t as many entries proportionally and they allowed less gold keys to persuasive writing because of that.

I think the honorable mention is certainly worthy of including on a college application. It’s still regional recognition.

Well, I noticed that in my area northeast only 16 entries won gold keys and had persuasive writing as their entry. And that a total of 37 applicants received gold keys this year for persuasive writing. Also, looking at 2010 national winners I think only one was a persuasive piece. I don’t know maybe i’m thinking too much into it. I’m really excited to go the award ceremony tomorrow though. Can anybody tell me what it’s going to be like? I’m in Philadelphia.

wow lucky, i hate RAL. No award ceremony, only gold keys, and toughest region. I was 1 of only 18 journalism gold keys in RAL out of almost 1,000 gold keys.
