^If you’re doing RAL its 1-7-2011

Is there only one example of journalism? Or is there more work than is just showcased in the gallery? I really like the piece, but one example gives me nothing to hint at what the judges are looking for.

Hey, I’m submitting 4 pieces, two persuasive, one poetry collection, and one personal. I just finished uploading them all under the manage work tab. I printed out the forms, will have two copies for each submission signed tomorrow, and send those in an envelope with the submission fee. But is there any way to make sure the works uploaded online were submitted properly? Is there any “final submission” button where you can be sure your submissions are entered? Or are they just automatically finally submitted when the due date passes?

^No once the deadline comes what ever is on the system becomes final and the judges can see it. So until then you can edit it without the judges knowing

So, I literally just saw this thread and found out about the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. I love, love writing and for the last 4 hours, I have been reading all about the Awards and I’ve looked at all the writing submissions that are in the galleries, etc…

Unfortunately, the deadlines are approaching FAST and I am confused on things like the submissions. So, we submit all the writing electronically but then we have to send the money (or fee waiver) and submission signatures or whatever it is that we are getting from are parents and teachers to our regional department?

^Yep! Upload your work to the system and get the forms signed. Depending on your regional guidelines u may or may not have to send in a hard copy of your work.

I’ve been searching this thread and there aren’t many CCers entering the Art category. I was only going to enter the writing category myself, but then I saw the Art gallery for Scholastic and It doesn’t seem to difficult to win something (or maybe it’s just me thinking that). Anyways I’m doing Comic Art and Drawing. I haven’t really started anything, so I have ALOT of work ahead of my and 4 days to do it. I guess I should get down to work.

!!!
Gee. It’d be nice to win something…

For the poetry collections…should we just list all the titles in the title box with commas in between them
or should we have of a different title to represent the collection overall

also do the poems in the collection have to be thematically linked?

All titles for the individual pieces of poetry I think? I mean they’re publishing them separate of each other, so it makes sense for them to each have their own title.
And no, they don’t have to all be thematically linked. I asked my teacher about that, and whether they should be similar in style or not, and she said that it’d probably be best to show range in style, and that thematically linked is not expected.

How many pieces do all of you have in your portfolios? I have five and I’m not sure if I should add more or take away… Agh.

Out of curiosity, Is anyone competing in the Scholastic Art Awards competition. The comments so far have solely been about the writing competition. I think the Art Competition might actually be easy to win something in than writing, but that’s just my opinion.

Problem! The submission forms have word counts/line numbers on them. So after we get them signed, we can’t revise the piece anymore?

OMGGG. Since when is the deadline in two days?!

I haaaate my life. Lol.

Woahh… so weird. My account was deleted for some reason. I made a new one, it’s just really sketchy that they deleted me out of their system.

@Applebeam, my daughter has entered the art competition. She was awarded a Silver Key and a Gold Key for our region. I don’t know much about it though.

So I’m entering a a couple categories this year, one of which is poetry. Do you guys know if they’re judging the entire collection for an award, or if they’ll hand out awards for collections AND single poems (like they did last year)?

Damn, the Scholastic website is disorganized…

BREAKING NEWS…
Okay, just called the Alliance…asked a couple of questions:

Two submission forms for each piece? Yes, he didn’t specify about whether we can just mak a copy, so just sign on two forms for each piece.

Poetry collections? nothing has to be in common between the poems, you can win awards for separate poems, no title needed for the collection in general.

Writing RegionAtLarge results? He said that they would start judging next week, and winners of the WRAL will start to get notifications by the beginning of MARCH

YAYAAYAYAYAYAYAYAYA!!!
I’m done basically…

So, if we are preparing a senior portfolio, will the pieces included also be judged for the individual categories or just as a set for the portfolio competition? I’m submitting 5 Personal Essay and Humor pieces for a nonfiction writing portfolio if that matters.

Chicago, they mention somewhere that if you’re submitting something for your portfolio you can submit it in another category, so I’m assuming that you have to resubmit them for individual categories if you want them up for those too.

Thanks for the reply!! Especially with that deadline approaching…
