Thanks so much for the reply 11exo11, excellent to know :D

But they’re sending out notifications in March for WRAL? March is a long way away…

The “work sources” section confuses me. Are we supposed to note specific sources that inspired some of our lines or phrases?

One of the things I wrote was, “In the first stanza of “Seven Letters”, my imagery of heart strings and cello-playing is inspired by one of my friend’s T-shirt designs for a school club. It features a violinist holding a heart and playing on the strings stretching from it.”

Or is work sources referring to something else?

The deadline for RAL is tomorrow. I’m sending in multiple Art and Writing Projects. How should I go about sending it all in. Do I pay only 1 submission fee or 2? Oh and do we send in our writing and artwork in the mail or is it only electronically sent?

they ask you to check off the box if it’s a piece about grieving/loss or about a social issue… do you think judges like pieces with those more?

No Seahawks, they say that it’s just that pieces that fit those categories are up for separate scholarships.

Can anyone answer my question about the “work sources” section of the submissions?

I didn’t understand it either I just kinda put everything that was in it lol sry it didn’t help

Are there any other (large) writing competitions? Just wondering.

You guys know ekphrastic poetry? I think that they want you to put your source for stuff like that in the work sources thing. And if you used something from a song or some other poem.

Oh, and does anyone know if we should put the title of each piece in the upload text box?

Is this a joke. I’ve just spent an hour trying to work with their ****ty formatting tool. Now it’s literally impossible for me to save my writer’s statement. Everything else saved. But that will not. Oh my god I am going to kill everything.

Anyone still not done with their work? :D

youngARTS! I’m a 2011 Finalist and am flying to Miami next week, all expenses paid. :D

does anyone know if we’re allowed to submit multiple pieces in a category? debating if I should do another piece with the time i have right now haha

Yes, you can.
As long as you pay the processing fee!

Question about the submission fee:
If I’m entering more than one piece of work, like 2 pieces of work, does that mean I would have to pay 20.00 instead of 10.00. Because if that is true I totally screwed up. I only sent a 10.00 submission fee for 4 pieces of works. Do you guys think I could delete 3 of my electronic accounts so that way only 1 piece of work shows up.

I think so, 10 per entry. try to email them and they will tell you what to do. likely they’ll ask for you to mail another check with the remaining. you’ll be fine.

and RAL art/writing submissions are pretty much done!

^thanks, Seahawks506. I was able to submit my work.

So, I have a dilemma. Like I said a few days ago in this thread, I only just found out about it last Wednesday but I am a huge writer and wanted to do this. I had to go out of town from thursday-saturday night for a state thespian conference with my theatre club.

I was planning on uploading my pieces yesterday and have my teacher sign the things she needed to sign but now we have a snow day and the snow is not letting up and I doubt there’ll be school tomorrow. Wednesday is the day that I have to have the mail postmarked by. Hopefully, there will be school by wednesday! And I’ll upload my pieces by tonight.

^Yeah upload them tonight, and send an email to your region and expand your situation. They mostly care about you getting your work uploaded in time.
