2025 Waitlists- expect movement (read why) and list them here

I have a student who was moved from waitlist to accepted at Ithaca on 4/29.

USC does not waitlist students.

Just sharing what a counselor has reported about their students who were accepted.

**eta- the counselor clarified that their students were initially deferred, not WL, so apologized for their confusion. They were initially deferred from EA and then admitted in late March, early April.

And that can be the problem with these lists. There can be misinformation or misinterpretation with some of these reports from counselors. First hand reports seem more reliable. Parents can look at a letter from a school and determine whether or not their child has been taken off the waiting list based on the wording in a letter or online
.

Cross-posting for visibility (I also posted this on the University of Wisconsin Madison page).

I am not reporting movement off the WL, but my kiddo’s friend just heard last night on an appeal. She had been deferred from UWM EA, then denied. She appealed and was just admitted last night (notified by email). Interesting that she was admitted and not moved to WL. This was very exciting for her, as UWM had been her first choice. She had deposited elsewhere but is likely reversing course and will attend UWM.

FWIW, it had been a shock she was denied, given her GPA and other stats.
I do not know her intended major. She is OOS.

We were able to get clarification from the counselor and updated the thread

My son just got an email with admission offer for American University and $25k scholarship.

Nice! Appeals after denial are not usually a positive outcome.

Agree! Very happy for this young woman. It also might just mean (maybe?) that yield is down. Alternatively, UW could have recognized on appeal that admissions really did not get it right the first two times (EA and RD) and made an error denying this student.

This was through a status update email! In the status update I opened up a personalized acceptance letter discussing an ec I have been involved in. I did not send a letter of continued interest so I was surprised. Wishing your son the best of luck :crossed_fingers:

DS got accepted off the SMU Cox Business School waitlist this afternoon!

There are people on the Purdue thread reporting acceptances today.

I’m not sure if maybe Purdue accepted fewer students than usual, or if they always go to the waitlist in CS and engineering before May 1, but the first reports of waitlist movement showed up on 4/21, including on CC!

Last year’s yield was much higher than expected so I’m not surprised that they were more cautious this year.

My ‘25 was accepted to UNC on 4/15. (He’d been waitlisted from EA.) We just found out today because he doesn’t read his email very closely. Fortunately he is happy where he committed, but thought I’d share here for future people.

Anyone hear anything about Wake Forest? Asking for a friend who is not on CC.
If not this year, any anecdotal information I can share about WF in years past? She’s read that typically WF offers about 5% off the WL, but on Reddit read that the % of offers off the waitlist is a LOT higher than 5% (to the extent you believe Reddit posts). And ofc this year seems so different. Any information you can pass along would be appreciated.

Has anyone heard anything about Harvey Mudd College or Carnegie Mellon? I’ve heard these schools admit very few to none from waitlists. I am hoping this year will be different. My son is on both waitlists and these are his top choices. Would appreciate any information, thanks!

University of North Carolina School of the Arts Music Conservatory went to the waitlist for a student on 4/30. Note: this does not apply to any of the other conservatories on campus such as drama or film.
