It’s a great question. I’ve never heard of someone getting a package notification and then getting rejected. I also asked AI (Perplexity.AI) to look through college confidential and any other chat sites to see if it could find an example, but it couldn’t. It did say that it is possible that there was a clerical error, but it didn’t find an example of it.
[Of course, AI makes mistakes, but it does provide another data point.]
I think you can say that a notification isn’t 100% sure, but it is over 99% sure, and may be close enough to celebrate a little.
Still, you might as well hold a little doubt if only to make March 10th that much more special.
I watched those packages closely for a couple of years and I vaguely recall (and my be a rumor I read) that someone saw a notification and assumed it was from ABC school due to zipcode or state and it was actually a totally different package. That would be the thing I would watch out for. Always could be a clerical error and they print a label and then toss it, but that seems pretty unlikely!
We are not in this year’s applicant pool, but we saw the BUA package in USPS system when my kid applied. It was mailed to arrive M10. I could tell by the zipcode and BUA’s social that said they were in the mail:) Commonwealth, in past, sent big envelopes that were just posted with a meter, so those wouldn’t show up. (No clue if either of these have changed!)
Thanks for this! Our label has the actual school’s name on it. We are not trying to extrapolate based on location, which does seem a bit dicey. We were mostly concerned about clerical errors or the shipment getting canceled, but it does sound like a pretty remote possibility.
I think that package situation happened in 2019 – I remember there being a package from a city in Massachusetts (IRC?), and then it turned out to be some random other drop-ship merch having nothing to do with a boarding school.
I’ll reiterate that we did NOT get some notifications from schools that others did, and my daughter DID get in (and get packages). I know for a fact that happened with Andover and Hotchkiss or Deerfield (can’t recall which)-- we had NO notification despite having all the notification services, and she did get the packages (and acceptances of course).
My daughter specifically asked that I NOT tell her (her brother went through this process two years ago so she knew it was an option). She wants to get all of the decisions officially. She is not on this board.
I asked mine if she’d want to know if we had these kind of updates or just wait for m10 - she asked to be told good or bad news, so im keeping her posted
Ok, I bit the bullet and created USPS/UPS/FedEx accounts to try and get early signal on packages being sent.
Q - Has anyone created a new account and saw on your dashboard that there was already a package label created (like the package label creation notification was waiting for you to create an account to see it…)?
