Admissions Discussion/Decisions - Class of 2024

I just called OSU and while there’s no guarantee that I got the correct information, I was told the next wave wouldn’t be until some time in December.

I called again and got confirmation from someone else that releases will be around mid-month once a month. Also, I was told rejections and acceptances go out in every round meaning rejections went out in the November round along with acceptances and acceptances will go out in the late rounds along with rejections. @momzilla2D, I don’t think people are running to post their rejections, so using CC posts to measure and comment on acceptance/rejection ratio per round is a great way to make people anxious. It seems like they include decisions in the round in which the application is reviewed, irrespective of what the decision turns out to be. See you here in mid-December.

My parents told me to not accept my OSU admissions offer yet because then “we won’t have any negotiating power”. Will acceptance of my offer this early really impact if I get the Morrill or Maximus, Provost, and Trustees Scholarships?

Son accepted 11/15 submitted early action

Good luck to all who haven’t heard

Hey y’all!
I just got off the phone with an admissions rep and she answered a ton of questions that I had and I’m sure alot of you have as well.

So the first is that the initial group was all randomly selected as towards who was decided on first. (I know some people are convinced that it is done by high GPA and test scores, but my friend with a 36 on the ACT also hasn’t heard any news back yet)

Secondly, (as Pelorider said), the decision batches are being sent out monthly. They didn’t know an exact date, but I’m estimating around December 15th for the second batch.

Third, if you didn’t hear back in this first round, the doesn’t mean that you aren’t in the running for scholarships, honors, scholars, and all other programs. It is a large state school and the program just randomly picks.

This call really eased my nerves and I hope this info calms down some of y’all too. Congrats to everyone who has gotten in so far, and as for the rest of you (myself included) a little waiting never hurt anyone. (That’s supposed to be an encouraging message, please don’t hate the positivity.)

Good luck to everyone!

Waiting on official letter and Direct admittance to Fisher

Appreciate you calling to clarify. I certainly didn’t intend to make people anxious. I said in my own post that CC is not a representative sample, and that it was IMO. And I do believe everything I posted is consistent with what you were told when you called.

I applied 9/24. Do you think I will get my decision soon?

Could be…I am tuned into the schedule for last year because my son’s 10 senior hockey teammates all applied and they had Friday night games (every other week) which coincided with releases. At least one heard, each time, and it was torture for the last ones in line. Sometimes the kids found while IN the locker room so they would step on the ice, skate over to their parents and give the thumbs up (or down). It was rough!!!

@eengel624 looks liken next round is not for another month? I guess you can check your portal next Friday, but expect to wait another two weeks.

Admitted to Columbus campus to Fisher for finance (3.83UW, 4.21W, 31 ACT)

Would you say mid December as in Friday December 13th?

“The only logic that IMO comes into play is that the Nov wave is most/all acceptances and the late Jan wave is largely deferrals/rejections. Last year, there were some rejections in the Dec wave and some acceptances in the late Jan wave. But even that assumes that College Confidential is a representative sample. (I’m sure it’s not.)”

@momzilla2D not looking to be argumentative -the piece of your post I pasted above just got me very anxious and I don’t want others to have that same experience. You did indicate that CC is not likely representative, however you did say in your opinion Nov wave is most/all acceptances, some rejections in Dec. and some acceptances in late Jan wave - implies there is a relationship between wave and likelihood of acceptance/rejection. I am simply clarifying for people that this is not the case. Those who haven’t heard have just as much of a chance of getting accepted as those who have heard. Good luck to all of us!!

@cowboylover49 December 13 would be my guess for the next round…

I agree the first wave is mostly acceptances, not sure there were any rejections this year or last year, at least I havne’t heard of any.

Anyone get in with a 27 yet? Any chance they would accept that ACT score?

41% of last year’s Freshman admits fell in the 24-29 range: https://oaa.osu.edu/sites/default/files/uploads/irp/cds/columbus/IRP_CDS_2018-2019_Columbus.pdf

@Pelorider
I am not suggesting that there is a relationship between wave and likelihood of acceptance/rejection. They evaluate each application and some just take more time than others. Your chance of admission doesn’t change, it’s just a matter of the timing of their decision.

But to clarify my original points…

I have not seen or heard of any deferrals or denials in the Nov wave either last year or this year. Therefore, IMO the Nov wave is MOSTLY, if not all, acceptances.

In every other wave, there are acceptances, deferrals and denials.

OSU’s published deadline for the EA round is Jan 31. Therefore, IME, in that final EO Jan wave, there are more deferrals, simply because they need more time for some applications, and last year that wave also saw more denials. But, as I said before, there were still acceptances in that last Jan wave. AND, some of those deferred from EA were ultimately admitted in the RD round.

My D19 was admitted in the mid-Jan wave last year. At least one student from her school was denied in the Dec round. Waiting is hard, I know. It is hard to see each wave come and go without you, but doesn’t mean you are less likely to be admitted.

My favorite is the Weekly Report, but you have to scroll down to find the Columbus Campus Autumn 2019 vs Autumn 2020.
