some some of those acceptance rates per major are pretty scary, hopefully I get in because I am OOS and African American.
@momzilla2D thank you for sharing this report; very interesting information. Quick question - what do you mean when you say “you have to scroll down” to find the Columbus 2019 vs. 2020 information? Are you talking about the report called “Columbus Campus New First Year Students?”
Thanks again.
Thanks for that link!! I wonder why they have “weekly” reports if they’re supposedly only only giving decisions once a month. Maybe it’s an internal weekly report vs communications with applicants (once a month).
@Pelorider Its the one called “Weekly Report” under the heading “Admissions Comparison and Summary Report”. Columbus campus Autumn 2020 vs 2019 is on page 11 of 15. It shows the number of applications received to date, number admitted, and number of enrollment fees paid, compared against the same numbers at the same point last year.
@cowboylover49 Just remember most of these reports are showing numbers just thru the current date, so are not indicative of the total that were admitted last year in the full admissions cycle. (and obviously not this year either) Small admitted numbers are this point does not mean that they will stay small.
If you want to see full year 2019, go down to “ Admissions Comparison and Summary Report” and use the drop downs to choose Autumn 2019.
The weekly reports also shows the number who have paid the acceptance fee. So I assume it’s to keep tabs on that. I do think it’s mostly an internal report, but publicly available, maybe because it’s a public institution?
As you can see from the report, OSU has received over 38,000 applications and so far they have accepted about 5440 students. If you go back to years past, they usually receive about 52K applications and they accept on average about 23k to 25K students by the time everything is said and done. D18 was accepted in the first wave. S20 was also accepted in this first wave which has been great as far as managing the stress. Having said that, OSU will keep accepting students all the way through March. They will continue to do it in waves and there is A LONG LONG way to go. There is no need to worry. There are 1000’s of more acceptances to go. There are so many applications that it is impossible for admissions to admit everyone at the same time. As to why some get admitted in Nov and some get admitted in the later rounds, it is impossible to tell. It is a random order.
what gives me hope is Ik a guy who got accepted last year who had an 18 ACT he submitted as his highest score and 3.9 gpa and got admitted he was also African American
People are saying that there is only one round per month, but there has been acceptances on the 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th, so it looks like people could receive decisions anyday.
I was thinking (acutally HOPING) the same thing… but then I realized that maybe those people who posted just got around to checking their portal? I don’t recall seeing if OSU sends you an email prompting you to check the portal…Anyone know?
From what I heard from past years, they release every weekend or every other weekend starting the Friday before Thanksgiving, which would be this weekend.
I think this first wave was released by OSU on the same day and people posted when they saw the information. My D wasn’t checking because her sister didn’t get notified until the Friday before Thanksgiving In 2018. I posted her stats on college confidential a couple days after she was accepted. If OSU is only releasing acceptances once a month that is a change from the past. They have currently accepted over 5,000 to date which means around 20,000 more people will have good news coming.
Should we accept the enrollment now? Or, we could decide it later?
@spacebuddy You May wait, if you like. But it is my understanding that the sooner you pay your deposit ($100), the higher you are on the list for choosing housing. For my s20, OSU is his #1, so he accepted via email and sent in his deposit on the same day. If you are considering many other schools, then probably best to wait to hear from more.
My parents told me to wait to accept my deposit because otherwise we’d have “no negotiating power”. Does when I accept my enrollment really impact whether or not I get the Morrill and Maximus, Provost, and Trustees awards?
I was just admitted to the class of ‘24 at Ohio State with my intended major being chemistry. I’m out of state and I applied in the middle of October.
My stats:
- GPA: 3.7
- SAT: 1350
- No AP classes taken
- 4 Honors classes (Chemistry, French, Engineering, Forensics)
@nsheerin4 Congratulations! When you say, “just admitted”, how did you hear? eMail? snail mail? portal? If portal, had you checked it since last Friday 11/15? Just trying to determine whether yours is part of the 11/15 wave, or not.
Applied mid Oct.
Admitted 11/15 (found out via portal & received email 2 days ago)
OOS-PA, Communications major
3.75 GPA/4.6 W
30 ACT
Rigorous HS, 4APs & the rest honors. Lots of leadership, ECs, good essay and art website
Also applied for Morrill and Scholars
Shocked to hear so soon! Good luck to everyone!
@music394 I don’t think anyone can confirm or deny that accepting admission and giving a deposit has an impact on scholarships. However, I do not personally know anyone successful at negotiating with OSU. I will tell you that not everyone who qualifies for merit awards will be lucky enough to receive one. Stay positive and good luck!
Thanks for your advise. S20 still has a MIT dream, we will wait.
