I applied early action on September 22 with an ACT of 31 and a weighted gpa of 4.366 out of 4 applying for a Statistics major any idea what my chance is of getting my decision during the first round mid November? Am I in a good position to be getting in at all?
My dd has been accepted to the dance department and is finishing up her academic application. It’s all been done for awhile but she still needs to finish the honors essay. Hope to have it in tonight or tomorrow!
Submit button pushed last night by my S20. Chem engineering, SAT 1510, 4.6 weighted (3.95 unweighted), two varsity athlete and strong musician. Zippo leadership positions or community service type stuff. Part time job, but that’s it. Not terribly concerned about admission unless he really blew it on his application and forgot something, but he is pretty bullish on the honors program and that is a definite maybe. If accepted, this is where he will go as it is his #1.
He already was assigned his buckeye portal and it shows receipt of his sat scores.
Go Bucks!
My only tip is be patient! Last year acceptances were different than past years & were about once a month starting around Thanksgiving. In prior years they came out every other week. I don’t know if this is due to higher number of applications or what…but just bc you applied in August or Sept doesn’t mean you will hear early. My son is a freshman this year & loves OSU!
Hey does anyone know about the 1 required fine art credit. At my school an engineering program exempts us from needing one and I’m wondering how strict the arts credit criteria is for OSU
I don’t think it matters. Our Second year daughter applied in late October and was notified in the first wave. Other friends of hers waited into December! It’s nerve wracking for sure but it’s not a bad sign if you’re not in the first couple rounds.
@Richard_Ryder You are asking about the general education arts requirement for graduation? From my reading the website, it looks like two semesters of a fine arts course are required. I would imagine that is the requirement, period. Have you checked the OSU website to see which courses fulfill this requirement? I recall they were quite diverse.
Hi I’m an Ohio state hopeful I applied on October 3 and from reading this I understand that admission decisions will be released by late November the week before thanksgiving. I have an ACT score of 30 4.2 gpa weighted and 3.92 (unweighted) I was wondering if i’m likely to be admitted. Also when are the Morill Scholarship decisions sent out to applicants.
GO BUCKEYES !!!
@Plawal2020 hi! I’m also an OSU hopeful this year. I spent the last few days reading over the admissions thread from last year and I gathered that not all of the admissions decisions are released in November. There are waves either every two weeks or every month, not sure which one they’re going to be doing this year. I’m hoping to hear in the first wave (Nov 22 I think) since OSU is my top choice.
I applied to Morrill as well and my understanding of it is that we have to be admitted to the main campus first and then they will send our Morrill application to the right people for review.
Hope this helped!
(please correct me if I got anything wrong)

Nervous about my chance to be admitted to OSU, which my top choice college, due to my low gpa. What are my chances for admission.
@roeschpn You have a good gpa and good act score for the school so I think you have a high chance of getting in.
My daughter had the same weighted GPA, ACT and a lower unweighted GpA than you and she was admitted in 2018.
She did have a ton of leadership experience and a killer essay.
Should be ok to get in…is getting more competitive for sure to get in…
@Vat2002 do you have Naviance at your school? About 70 kids a year from my son’s HS apply every year so we have a ton of Naviance data for OSU. You would be on the edge GPA-wise but fine with your SAT score. My fear is the desired CS major. All of engineering is capacity controlled and my guess is that CS gets the most applications. Are you in-state? Have a back up plan to OSU? The engineering kids from our HS tend to go to U Cincy if they don’t get into tOSU (or many prefer U Cincy!). Our Naviance data suggests that, for admissions, OSU goes pretty much by the numbers. Things get more holistic with the honors decisions.
@Vat2002 sorry, just noticed you are instate. Then I bet a lot of kids from your HS apply to OSU every year and if you have Naviance, you should have a good idea where you stand.
I second what @cypresspat said. If you look at your scattergram on Naviance and are mostly surrounded by a green with a few reds in there, OSU would be a good match school. If it’s solid green its a safety. If it’s mostly red then you should consider OSU a reach.
We have Parchment at our school and it gives a %age chance of getting admitted to a particular school. Not sure how accurate/reliable it is and what to make of the %age chance.
BTW, browsing through last year’s posts looks like the first wave of acceptances to tOSU were on 11/16 (Friday) mostly early applicants. By the same token, can we expect something similar next Friday 11/15 this year?
The first wave is released on the friday before thanksgiving, so this year that would be the 22nd.
Is Parchment an alternative to Naviance?
I highly encourage all of you applying (or who have students applying) before the Nov 1 deadline to set your expectations that you could be waiting until end of January for a decision. Some of you will very likely hear the Friday before Thanksgiving (given the pattern in past years) which is awesome but many others won’t.
If you read past years application threads you’ll see many people looking for some rhyme or reason as to why they hadn’t heard yet and why others with lower stats or others who applied later had been notified. You can drive yourself crazy trying to figure out something that honestly just can’t be figured out.
I know the waiting is so hard but try not to lose faith. Not being accepted in the first round doesn’t mean your chances of being accepted have gone down. You just need to be patient.
Wishing all of this year’s applicants success in their college applications journey even though for some that success will be at another school.
