Agree with @jmsstb. OSU’s process of sending out decisions in waves is definitely stress-inducing, but if Ohio State is a top choice, why give up just because you haven’t heard yet? You have just as much chance of getting in next Friday as did the kids that heard in November. OSU promised a response by 1/31 and they will provide it.
How many more acceptances do you think there will be?
Last year my son applied on August 1st. ( 3.8 GPA, 28 ACT) The last day of January came and went and we did not hear anything. We called Ohio State on February 1st and asked what was going and they said they didn’t know. About 3 hours later the portal updated at around 11:30am on February 1st with a denial.
I saw your posts on last years thread when you were still in evaluation on feb 1st and wondered what had happened. This is my current anxiety right now, that Friday will come and go and we’ll still be stuck in evaluation. I’m sorry that happened. ![]()
I wonder if we were moved to RD - we submitted the application before Nov 1 but our transcripts and or test scores were late due to fires and power outages.
OSU had proactively sent us an email saying they knew about the fires and to let them know if we needed more time - which we did, and though things were late we got confirmation that we’d be in the EA pool but now I’m not too sure. Also now assuming we will get a deferral eventually.
why do u assume that it will be a deferral? Shouldn’t the kids who are still waiting have the same chances as those who heard earlier? I am so confused by this process. It doesn’t make sense!!!
I know everyone has a different opinion, no I don’t think the chances are the same as the early batch. A lot of high stat kids get in right away. I think the kids who need a more ‘holistic’ review get in or denied in later batches. Just my opinion. I think the last batch will have some acceptances but will be mostly deferrals and denials.
Thank you for your message. Everything worked out. He was directly admitted into Farmer at Miami and loves it there.
My younger child LOVES Ohio State and will be applying next year so I’ve been keeping an eye on things in here. I have several theories on Ohio State admissions. None of it is random in terms of notification waves.
Good luck! Whatever happens is for the best.
the regional admissions rep from our area said there is no rhyme or reason fo the timing of who hears when. So we are trying to stay positive and hope that we just had the bad luck of being the last to hear(even though we applied sept)…that being said it is a very unfair and frustrating process the way they do it.
agree! She applied October 1st. Salutatorian of her class with a 4.0. Still says evaluation
OOS merit starting to go out. Fortunate to get provost and National Buckeye awards in today’s mail.
My daughter applied OOS by Nov 1, still in evaluation, accepted into U Miami with top amount of Cane’s scholarship, and the honors program and Flagship Scholarship at our state school. 3.9 U/W, 32 (33 superscore) ACT, very strong recs, extracurriculars, awards, etc.
Ok so I have a different perspective- I have twins that applied both EA and one was accepted early the other is still waiting.
Accepted student Biology UW GPA 92.98 with a 31 ACT - although we now know that his 35 ACT was received before the deadline but posted with a 11/6 date 5 AP (three 5’s and two 4)
Still waiting student applied Exploratory Computer Science (or something like that) UW 89.82 with a 31 ACT- and a 35 ACT was received before deadline but posted 11/5 he has 7 AP’ all 5’s and he took Physics at a community college in the fall got A and currently taking Physics 2
(They also have his SAT score as a 1370- he had submitted his application early)
So although I know them to be very similar in academics the still waiting student appears to be more driven with his course load
The process has been explained to me as- the applications get reviewed by admissions and if you meet certain criteria they then forward to each college and their admission personnel either accept, defer, or deny your application. Now I did speak to an Admissions counselor that told me this info- although that same counselor told us that we had to submit the FAFSA in order to be considered for National Buckeye (which has been pointed out to me that is not true).
So yeah I get why the still waiting student is waiting- he’s completed most of the requirements for his first two years - but he is not sure if he wants a Computer Science or Math undergrad degree. He really wants to take electives - finance- art- our high school didn’t have electives that he was interested in that’s why he took all those AP’s!
I get where they are trying to figure out how he will “fit into” the group.
We don’t get frustrated - they are giving your application every chance for acceptance with keeping all other applications in perspective. There are many spots left- even a deferral is still an opportunity. At this point I am just going to schedule a visit for the one that was accepted- and resign my self to the fact I may have to drive there twice.
Keep positive especially if it’s your dream school
DG;
OOS merit starting to go out. Fortunate to get provost and National Buckeye awards in today’s mail.
DG, may I ask when you got accepted and GPA and ACT?
Also today’s mail is snail mail or email, buckeye mail?
my son is admitted on Jan,17, he got official acceptance snail mail yesterday, funny thing is he got email for application fee wavier offer for rd this morning, lol.
He has 3.98 gpa and 35 act, engineering major.
He accepted university of minnesota, purdue all engineering major with honor, but no merit scholarship yet, He accepted purdue on Jan,15. and minnesota at early November.
@kittyduey - Hi. I applied late August. Accepted mid November. Honors just before Xmas. 35 ACT. 3.9 UW/4.25 W. Business.
Admissions said these would go out through March. One of my good buddies got into Purdue engineering also. Congrats. He hasn’t gotten any merit from Purdue and hasn’t heard either from OSU re merit so perhaps it’s by major.
Regular mail sorry forgot to mention
Thank you, DG
R.I.P. Kobe and Gigi
I’ve cried so much today after hearing the news. Still shocked to hear what happened. RIP to Kobe and Gigi
Got deferred with 3.63/4 W GPA, 38/111 class rank, 32ACT, 3APs, varsity soccer team captain/MVP, mediocre essay, strong ECs. Should I send a letter of continued interest to the university? If so, should it include recent accomplishments not on my common app, or be focused on the fact that OSU is my first choice. Should I mention my legacy status (grandfather)? I understand that my GPA and class rank are very subpar, is admission to the main campus realistic with those statistics?
