Admissions Discussion/Decisions - Class of 2024

For those of you undecided on which tour to take. Going on admitted students tour of campus Monday with my son. Was able arrange private tour of Fisher with a student ambassador before the tour.

When will I find out if I am in the honors program? I just got accepted on Jan 31.

I have heard RD results will be posted around mid March. Can anyone confirm this?

@YS1111 - Thanks for providing latest stats. Does this mean we still have 4,600 to 4,800 spots available for RD?

The number they accept depends on what yield they are projecting. Since the number of apps are up this year, could be (MAYBE) they are projecting a higher yield this year and thus need to accept fewer. Certainly the acceptance rate will be lower this year unless they want to grow the number of freshmen this year.

Last year there were 52,013 applicants with 25,605 Admitted. If they maintain the same no. of admitted students then 4,581 seats are available. This year about 1,000 more applicants so let hope they keep the same 49.2% accept ratio (25,605/52,013), then 5,201 spaces are still available.

Is there any way I could find out what percent of deferred students get in? Ohio State is my number one choice, so if I don’t have a good chance I need to start looking at back ups.

@YS1111 - I wonder why there is a big jump on acceptance between 1/27 and 2/3 this year (2,603 accepted) comparing to the same period in 2019 (1,017 accepted). Any idea?

@PLO2020 I don’t know.

@plo2020 Because the last Friday before the notice deadline was later than last year.

son just accepted $12,000/yr at another state school. Deferred on first go around, felt no love from OSU even though #1 choice for the last 12 years. 4.0, 28 ACT, tons of ec’s. Father and brother are alumni. Bittersweet day to day the least.

@osurx90. Wishing the best for your son. I am certain he will thrive at the school he has chosen. Sorry that he did not hear the news he wanted from tOSU soon enough. I understand how much one just wants this to be over and begin planning for the next chapter.

Wow so based on the numbers in @YS1111 's post, 80% of OSU admittances come from the EA round? That sounds surprisingly high to me.

@adlgel I recall that those seeking a spot in the engineering college are urged to apply EA. By E numbers, it looks like most did. Can’t speak for any of the other colleges pushing hard for EA.

I feel like all the schools S20 was applying to pushed EA. Maryland really pushed it, telling stories about not having room late in the year even for people with perfect SAT scores. Indiana said if you want direct admit to Kelley you need to apply early. None of these were ED, but they still wanted those early applications.

Any guesses as to when they will start releasing more acceptances?

Honors college acceptance received today via email.

@realhousewifeOH - RD acceptance results will come out around mid March according to admissions office.

Does anyone know when they will post the dates for Freshman Orientation? Last summers are still there. Trying to plan vacations and want to avoid the potential dates of orientation.
