Admissions Discussion/Decisions - Class of 2024

my friend was deferred and when she emailed her admissions counselor he said additional info like transcripts, new test scores, and anything new you’ve done during the school year can help them make a decision

Interesting facts so far this year

Total Admitted Fall 2019 vs YTD 2020

25605 vs 26288

Total Applications Fall 2019 vs YTD 2020

52013 vs 52286

Total % Admitted Fall 2019 vs YTD 2020

49.2% vs 49.3%

I can probably assume a few things based on current numbers being published As OOS applicant currently waiting for merit, I can probably assume, I will not get any merit at all. For those who are still waiting to get admitted, the system does not allow us to see the weekly figures and perhaps someone has one of these reports from March of last year to see how much it changed from the February report. This might give you all an indication of how many more students were accepted.

@kristibz
I asked the same question. I’m going to assume based on the others comments and the fact that I can’t find a single thing online at all mentioning needing updated grades or test scores that they aren’t needed at OSU. My D was deferred at 3 other schools and 2 of them said in her deferral letters that they need updated grades before they make a decision. Another school said they do not require further information. I found old information online that said OSU doesn’t need updated grades…yes things change but my daughters deferral letter said nothing about sending Senior year grades. And since she had a bumpy Q2 I’d rather not send them if they aren’t needed because in her case it would probably hurt her chances rather than help.

Yikes. So if I’m reading this correctly, based on those numbers they probably won’t be admitting many more? If any? ?

Unless they increase the capacity.

They admitted 26K plus. I would think that they are probably going to “roll” with those numbers and see what happens with commitments. As of right now, about 10 percent of those admitted have committed. As the weeks go by, those numbers will start to increase. Admissions have a pretty good handle (based on enrollment management experience) how these numbers will be changing from week to week. Once they get to closer to the end of April, they might open it up a little more depending on where they stand. I would think a lot of people might have moved on especially those from OOS. The same probably applies to scholarships.

Also, they might admit some applicants based on University-wide goals such as URM, Athletes, OOS, etc.

Basically there’s no space left.:frowning:

So how likely would it be that a deferred student gets accepted?

@leelancer2k18. It is only February and that is very positive. There is still some time and there is always the possibility. If you go back to last year’s admitted postings, there were some applicants receiving very positive news towards the end of March. You just have to make sure you have other viable options.

@1917souci - So for those deferred from EA (who have not been admitted) as well as RD applicants currently in “Evaluation” status are basically waitlisted for now until late March for another small wave of acceptance as their last chance?

@PLO2020. Correct. I just don’t see OSU getting too far from that 49% acceptance rate. They already accepted 26K. But there were some acceptances at the end of March of last year. They are probably going to go into “enrollment management” in order to make sure they get the correct yield

The 2/24 admissions report.

2/24/20. 23,357. 26,288

eta: over 5,000 admitted last week!

Full cycle 2019, saw 25,605 admitted, so last year there were an additional 2,248 admitted after 2/24. I’m sure they’re managing to an enrollment number, so all depends on yield.

Does anyone know if the status changes to waitlisted, or will it just continue to say deferred?

Same for RD applicants with current status “Evaluation”. Will the status change to “Waitlisted” soon or continue to stay in “Evaluation”?

I have contacted OSU admissions this afternoon and they said they are still rolling out decisions for EA deferral and RD applicants until end of March. Hope for acceptance is still alive. This makes me think that acceptance rate for this year might go up slightly than last year.

Thanks for thanks for that update! Hope is alive!

OOS, daughter accepted last Friday, even though she applied EA. 3.9 u/w, very rigorous courses and strong extracurriculars and references. 32 ACT (33 superscore, that has since gone up to 33 composite and 34 superscore) Unfortunately, the emails she sent to admissions went unanswered, so it kind of turned her off. No Scholarship offer. Called today and told that last of merit scholarships went out this afternoon. So tOSU is off the list. But, she’s received great offers elsewhere, so she’s not bummed. Huge congrats to everyone who will be attending! I hope you achieve your goals!!!

@somemomma - sorry to hear. Their loss!

Quick question for the group. Do people know if Buckeye scholarship awards are included in the financial aid letters? Or is it a separate communication? Thank you.
