Advice for Environmental Science amongst selective schools

As we enter RD cycles, D24 would love any knowledgeable advice on the best schools for environmental science amongst the following schools on her list.

** PROFILE

  • international student/minority / full pay
  • IB expected 44, TO
  • Decent/Good essays, recommendations, and ECs

**Schools

  • Berkeley, Cornell CALS, Dartmouth, Stanford, Tufts, UCLA, UVA Charlottesville

I thought she was an athletic (swimming) ED2 commit?

If she has already applied and has not yet received decisions…Why this question now? Perhaps more productive once she has some acceptances and is actively choosing?

I would say Cornell but yes i thought she had an Ed2 admit.

The above list of schools is the comprehensive list she’s seeking admission for, together with University of Toronto/McGill.

She’d be able to swim varsity at McGill, and maybe walk-on at Cornell/Dartmouth depending on coach’s policy/need. Any other school would be club swimming, including very competitive programs such as UVA’s.

So she has been accepted at McGill? Didn’t she ED2 as a recruit which would be binding?

Happy to offer help but not sure what the totality of the situation is.

In this recent post, you claimed your D24 “secured admission” through an athletic recruiting commitment. This didn’t happen?

And what happened to this?

@nivo also wrote this:

D24 received a late reach out from a school where she had passed pre read (after Christmas, probably after another recruit dropped out), and had to choose between two D3 coaches/schools. She committed to apply as a D3 swim recruit with full coach support, which is a joyous time of celebration. She will join her friends who have gained admission to US Colleges (Caltech, Stanford, Harvard, and Williams)… With a hook.

Re: strength of environmental science programs…shouldn’t this have been researched prior to sending in applications?

This thread is set to close at 8:00 PM ET. I don’t see this going anywhere if the OP won’t clearly answer questions. If OP would like it re-opened once they have actual admittances to consider, PM a mod.

This is all very odd. Why were you posting that she had an ED2 commitment (as quoted above), and then you made several posts on the Wesleyan ED thread, certainly indicating that she applied? And posting on the UVA EA thread…

According to this list: https://www.usnews.com/education/best-global-universities/united-states/environment-ecology

Harvard is pretty good. Maybe you should apply there. They are still TO, so you may have an advantage.

@NiVo

Either you/D24 have not lived up to your commitments to the school, or the school did not live up to its admissions commitment to your D24.

Which is it?

No, there’s a third option . . .

But this recent post indicates your D24 was waiting on an EA decision from UVA…

…and now those decisions have been released and UVA states on their website that they decide “admit, deny, or waiting list” for EA apps, so there wouldn’t be an outstanding RD app there.

In another thread, as of a couple of days ago, NiVo stated there was no acceptance from McGill (or Toronto) yet. I guess no ED2 acceptance from anywhere either if they haven’t withdrawn RD apps.
