What did I miss???
I’m truly delighted for the winners!
What a fun season for me. I loved every second.

I was kidding - appears it didn’t come out that way !
I think they were referring to the proposal.
I was wondering where he kept the ring the whole time.
Oh right. I already blocked it from my memory!
Very much as expected although I was surprised that they had both episodes together. There was really no suspense/excitement in the last episode.
Not a great season. Too many locations basically the same, giving an unfair edge to teams who had Spanish speakers. Challenges not so challenging. Driving and reading maps played too large of a role too many times. Strongest team won although not sure how well they would have done if there were more truly physical challenges. The last physical challenge almost did them in.
The winning team not only had an advantage in all the Spanish-speaking countries, then had an advantage in the final leg with one of them being from Philly!
Now that all the seasons filmed with COVID restrictions are out of the way, let’s hope going forward seasons are more like what we watched in the fall–“normal” TAR.
Well, I said from the get go that the season would suck.
But to be fair, the season was filmed while Covid restrictions were in effect and designed before CBS decided to make it 90 minutes.
Ricky and Cesar were not the only Spanish speakers. And while speaking Spanish helped, it doesn’t look to have had any impact on the placements.
Ending in Philadelphia was probably the bigger advantage tor R&C, but the race really was theirs to lose.
And really, if after 36 seasons, teams don’t know how to drive stick or read a map, they’ve only themselves to blame.
For me, while not wonderful, the season beat by diminished expectations.
Juan is a native Spanish speaker (born and raised in Columbia where three episodes were filmed). Yvonne is also fluent in Spanish. Vinny claimed that he spoke Spanish.
While some parts of Philly might have helped Ricky and Cesar, they did stop to ask for directions. The challenges in the last leg should have been an advantage for those whose native language was English and who grew up in the US (ie. knowing there are five pointed stars on the flag).
It amazes me how many people comment on Ricky and Cesar’s advantage for speaking Spanish. And now for Ricky being from Philly. Not necessarily here but lots of comments on Reddit and such, as well as one of my Facebook friends posting that this season was ‘rigged” and others chiming in in agreement. As if the locations weren’t picked before the racers were decided. As if those things alone would assure them of winning legs if they couldn’t solve puzzles, read a map, run without dying, etc. I’ve been watching since Season 1 and there are always teams that are professional dancers, exercise instructors, climbers, know how to drive a manual transmission (an important skill in many seasons - I’ve never seen comments that manual cars were picked to advantage some teams), been from New York or Los Angeles or Seattle or wherever the final leg takes place. And I will say SOME of it seems to be anti-LGBTQ+ attitude (again NOT referring to here but just venting). One discussion was that they were “picked” (as if the other teams were complicit in that) to win because the show has become “woke” which LOL because years ago watching TAR with my young kids was when they asked me what “gay” meant when used to describe a racer. And we had a great discussion about it. Okay, I’m done venting. I wanted to post that on the FB post but decided not to engage there.
If there was anything unfair, it was that teams were all combined into groups at the start of each leg. I don’t like that - get that it had to be this way, thanks to the covid rules. I like rewarding a team that finishes first an advantage of a few minutes.
I thought the challenges were kinda blah this time around. Locations too were not great - but like @skieurope said, this was sort of expected. The pilots were doomed by their navigational skills which is kind of crazy…
I think it would have been much better if they had aired this season in the order they were filmed so before the season shown last Fall. It looked so much worse in comparison to that one… I know they needed to edit it for the longer 90 minute time slot but I don’t think that worked to make it any more interesting.
Which is laughable since TAR has had LGBTQ representation since season one with Tean Guido and Latinx LGBTQ representation since Season 2 with Oswald and Danny.
Sadly I’ve seen a lot of it too! Someone on IG wrote something veiled in homophobia and I actually responded that they were actually unhappy with them simply because they were openly gay.
Of course the show isn’t fixed! At the starting line it really can be anyone’s game.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I abhor racism, homophobia, misogyny and more. It’s always been there but these days it’s so overt and it feels like it’s ok. It’s not.
You can find trash talk most anywhere if you look for any competition show.
The good news is that we were (I think) fair here.
The winners were not my favs but I’m thrilled to have the final 3 be the final 3 and I just loved the 2nd place team - so fun, such great friends, so driven. I hope they got a little extra cash for 2nd place. Without that detour to New Jersey maybe they would have won!
Finally watched the finale and agree it was not the best season. The boyfriends seemed to randomly have a lot of luck including being a mascot in high school, Spanish speaking, and wasn’t there something about welding? They certainly deserved to win, but made for a less exciting season when they dominated all of the legs. The challenges generally seemed pretty straight forward, which seemed to reduce the potential for a shake up in the finishing order.
I hope that Vinny and Amber were nicer to each other than they appeared to be on the Race. The other three teams were really supportive of each other, even when one partner was doing badly at a challenge. Not the best season, but still enjoyed watching.
I remember one of the women on a team, her dad was a welder. I don’t recall the guys having a connection, but maybe. There were many moments during the season where a team member had a connection to a thing/place.
Wasn’t Amber’s (as in Amber & Vinny) dad a welder? Vinny did the challenge and finished first.
Cesar’s family did some welding. However, both Vinny and Rod (who had no experience with welding) passed him in that leg. Sunny had experience welding as a firefighter. Danny had experience welding as an engineering major in college.
I remember thinking “isn’t it unusual that so many people have a connection to welding?!”
