OOps. Missed it. was watching the Voice.
No AI yet this week @jym626 . Olivia went last week.
OOOh. Thanks! I can’t keep up with this stuff!
I wondered. I was watching The Bachelor.
Sorry my late response to last week was confusing!
And I do agree … Too many singing shows on at once!
WHAT is JLo wearing??
I agree with the heck is she wearing!
What was she wearing? - almost NOTHING! (literally, it seemed she was sitting there in her bra!)
So sad to see Avalon go. To me, she has an amazing voice. Clearly she isn’t connecting with voters. She’s not flashy, she is so so simple. Interesting to hear about the OCD. I adore her and hope she can do something that will make her happy.
I wasn’t a fan of the duets. I DON’T like that Joe Cocker song (probably the only one in America!) but I LOVED LOVED Mackenzie’s version. Great to see him have success even without a guitar. He is A-DOR-A-BLE!!!
I can tell Dalton is hard on himself. Glad he pulled his song together towards the end.
Trent still does nothing for me. La Portia is a show lady - and does it well, but is not my cup of tea. Sonika is a yawn for me.
Dalton. Blech. Overrated.
I agree, Dalton is really overrated. He’s a nice looking kid and does a good job with the guyliner, but I never think that he sounds great, always wondered what the fuss was about. Mackenzie sounded a lot better, but someone needs to tell him to keep his mouth closed when he’s not singing, it looks odd. Glad that Trent is getting a handle on his distracting facial contortions, though I’m not crazy about him, he’s much easier to listen to.
Also don’t understand the Avalon love, though she seems like a real sweetheart, she always sounds very nasally to me.
You know, they’re close to the end, and most of the singers are very inexperienced, young kids. They don’t sound nearly as good as they should for America’s top singers. It seems that most everyone on the Voice is far and above American Idol. I still think the problem is that they are so intent on young and attractive, that they didn’t make talent the top priority.
I just watched Mackenzie’s solo performance, and I think I figured out what appears odd to me when he is singing. When he leaves his mouth open, it looks like his top teeth are capped or have veneers, and it makes them appear as if they are dentures. Which is really odd looking in someone who is not a senior citizen! Did they talk about him being in a car accident or something like that in earlier shows?
I missed the first half of the show. Will try to catch Mackenzie. A Cappella singer Ds is home for spring break, and he thinks we should cut to the chase and give it to La’Porsha. He doesn’t like Sonika nearly as much as I do.
Avalon, to me, just doesn’t sound forceful enough. Lovely voice but kind of thin, if that makes sense.
Just listened to Dalton sing, “All the Lonely People,” getting compliments left and right about how great it was. Honestly, I didn’t even feel like he was singing, there was no melody, it was terrible. What is going on!! Is there something wrong with my sound system? My ears?
A weird thing, listening to Avalon’s parents. They seemed to think that the fact that she has OCD explains the tics that she has. Uh…what? No, she probably has Tourettes (I was wondering about the fact that she seemed to have different tics), which explains the OCD. OCD doesn’t cause tics, but if you have tics with OCD, you probably have another disorder than just OCD.
Her tics are pretty mild, though, and most people will probably barely notice.
I agree with you about Dalton, busdriver. He also does not seem capable of extending a note. Always very “choppy”. He’s a perfect example of style over substance for me. I haven’t been following the final season that closely, but I like listening to La’Porsha and find her to be quite interesting vocally. Will try to listen to this week’s performances on Hulu, when they become available, since I got rid of satellite and cable.
My D and I both think Sonika is boring. “I Have Nothing” is one of my favorites, and I wish LaPorsha had been the one to sing it.
I would think since Avalon was diagnosed with the tics/OCD at age 7 that she and her parents received much appropriate advice and guidance to this condition - remember, tv is edited. We may not have heard the whole story. I wouldn’t just their knowledge on a short 30 second clip- maybe that’s all they were comfortable sharing.
Avalon obviously wasn’t getting the votes. To be honest, my theory is that though she is very current (Indie) she does not satisfy the 40 and over viewers ideal of a good singer. She is not a “belter” - which is some people’s description of a good singer. She reminds me a LITTLE of Crystal Bowersox - beautiful voice, but a little quirky. And really, seems pretty darn confident of who she is - not in a showy way, in fact the opposite - you go Avalon!
Dalton has been part of a band and has other professional experience. I think he is getting in his own head. He also has a history of mental health issues - which you can see at times when he is sort of self-deprecating when he is critiqued. He may not be the BEST singer, but he is someone with the package - the attributes which can lead to a decent musical career - even if short lived - the look, a decent voice, captivating personality, a story.
Mackenzie actually had a life threatening illness about a year before he was on The Voice. He contracted a virus that put him into congestive heart failure - sounds like it was kind of a miracle he pulled through. He does look a little “frail” - especially for someone who was very athletic. Again, I think he could be very successful with a younger crowd, smaller audiences with an alternative/Indie career.
Sonika has a beautiful voice but for me, not a captivating personality to go with it for success in front of a camera. She should knock on the door of Disney studios and make a great career singing Disney Princess type songs - seriously, that would be a great career and she would be excellent at it! (not knocking her!)
LaPortia to me belongs on Broadway. She is definitely good but her over the top “diva-isms” are a big turn off to me. I think theater would be a great place for her.
So, success can come in many genres. And if you measure the success of artists AFTER Idol compared to AFTER The Voice, I think AI is the clear winner. To me success means you can make a career of several years out of it - pay the bills, enjoy your work and make a decent living. That does not have to mean be Carrie Underwood.
I don’t get the Dalton love, either. He’s attractive and the girls like him, I guess.
Sonika has a very nice voice. But she doesn’t have the “It” factor necessary imo.
I think La’Porsha is going to win it. I think Mackenzie could be one of those AI contestants who didn’t win, but went on to be successful anyway.
The winner from last year who sang? I’ve never heard of him (didn’t watch last season), wasn’t impressed at all.
Sonika might have a career in the Bollywood or Indian community. She’s very pretty. I think AI had a Philippino singer in the past and she had a good career in that community.
I like Dalton in a Constantine or Adam Lambert type, he might have a career in the theater. Although I really think there are very talented singers I’m not sure any are great. It’s so hard to break into the business but we shall see.
I thought that it was the right bottom 3 and the right bottom 2. I also really like this shortened season, they should have done this in years past.
Chronic tic disorders (including, but not limited to Tourrette’s) can fall under the umbrella of OCD. I have a relative who has a tic disorder and who saw many doctors, including neurologists. She was ruled out for Tourrette’s and was ultimately told it was an OCD disorder. Not all psychologists agree that tic disorders belong in the OCD category, but some definitely do.
