American Idol's Final Season! Shall we watch together?!

I don’t think that generally having a multitude of different tics is caused by OCD, it seems a mistake to just focus on the OCD, as it’s only part of the picture… However, as abasket said, you don’t hear the entire story. Yet I don’t assume that people have actually figured things out just because someone has been struggling for a long time. I think of how long my son suffered with this, going to so many doctors who were convinced it must be something within their specialty. If he could only get the right eye drops, figure out what he was allergic to, the right nasal steroid or allergy medication. Oh, it’s just a habit, we have to keep reminding him not to do this. Specialists? It took us finally ignoring the garbage and see the obvious. A leading children’s neurologist figured it out quickly, and gave him an experimental treatment for Tourettes, that worked, with low side effects.

I couldn’t stand watching James a couple of years ago, because I knew they could have helped him control the tics, and it was frustrating seeing him needlessly go through this. I have little faith that people (or doctors) always know what they’re doing. It breaks my heart that my kid suffered so long with this because we trusted that specialists knew what they were doing.

There’s my rant! :frowning:

I don’t know what it is about this season but I just can’t get too excited about any of them. So many of the performances remind me of little kids singing in front of the mirror . After watching just one recap episode of this season’s The Voice shows such a sharp contrast in the level of talent. Oh, and I really, really hate the crowds of screaming teenaged girls they jam in by the stage, with their annoying arm waving. I sound like an old grump but I used to love this show. I guess maybe it’s good that it is coming to an end.

Totally agree with alwaysamom. It brings it home even more when you see the shots of previous years idols, how incredibly good they were. They can’t seem to find someone even close now. How about just one truly memorable performance?

In my relative’s case, Tourette’s was ruled out because she had zero vocal tics. This might be the case for Avalon. Of course we have no way of knowing what help she has sought, who has diagnosed her, etc.

“In my relative’s case, Tourette’s was ruled out because she had zero vocal tics. This might be the case for Avalon. Of course we have no way of knowing what help she has sought, who has diagnosed her, etc.”

That was what made me take notice, actually. Maybe I misheard them, but I thought that they did mention vocal tics in conjunction with the other tics…which does implicate Tourettes. I think many people when they hear the words, “vocal tics”, think that means what they see on television, the uncontrollable random swearing, which is rare. A vocal tic can be something as mild as sniffing, grunting, or throat clearing, as I’m sure you know, but most others don’t, unless it affects their loved ones.

^^^Yes, many people associate Tourette’s with the swearing or other inappropriate comments.

I had a student once who had Tourette’s. In addition to the facial tics, he did a lot of the grunting. The other kids had grown up with him since kindergarten and were used to it. No one ever gave him a hard time about it, from what I saw.

“Sonika might have a career in the Bollywood or Indian community. She’s very pretty. I think AI had a Philippino singer in the past and she had a good career in that community.”

I think there have been several singers from the Philippines, but you might be thinking about Jessica Sanchez. She came in second place, was it to Phillip Phillips? She was phenomenal, and I just ran into a Filipino guy recently, who said that she was a superstar over there now.

I don’t see Sonika as someone working in Bollywood because her singing style is very different.
Singers wanting to enter the Bollywood market are a dime a dozen and the demand is more singing in their native language. Extremely difficult market to break into where extremely talented singers are not getting a chance to break into the industry. India has their own version of American Idol called, “Indian Idol.” In fact there are several singing shows broadcasted there.
She seems to want to present herself like a Celine Dion or Whitney Houston level singer.
She gives me the impression of someone very formal because she seems to appear in a lot of gowns.
It really depends what audience is best suited for the music she likes to sing. I am not really sure what that market would be.

Well, I have been a huge Dalton fan from the beginning, but his rendition of Eleanor Rigby was just too painful to listen to.

Dalton hasn’t exactly been blowing up the American Idol iTunes rankings these past couple of weeks, either. La’Porsha has been the leader 2 weeks in a row. Tristan was the runner-up this week and Dalton was several spots behind her.

I almost fell out of my chair when Keith Urban said (paraphrased) that Dalton’s theatrical performance brought out dark undercurrents in that song that Keith had never noticed before!!!

. Typical musical romp, I guess; best accompanied on kazoo.

Btw, those who like Haley Reinhart: I didn’t remember her from AI, but she’s a frequent singer (along with other AI alums) with Postmodern Jukebox. In case you haven’t seen it, here she is featured along with Casey Abrams https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aLnZ1NQm2uk

Bonus points: that song includes Ariana Savalas, Telly’s daughter, for those of you old enough to be surprised. Not to be sexist, but the mother (Julie Hovland) had to have some awesome genetic material to contribute.

Can’t believe the show is down to six people already.

I thought I heard the songs were not available on iTunes this year???

abasket, I saw the American Idol iTunes rankings at Pop Vortex.

Interesting @jshain because a friend of mine who ALWAYS buys his favorite Idol songs says they are not on iTunes this season - and I just did a quick search on my iTunes for Mackenzie, Dalton and “American Idol Season 15” and nothing comes up. Also no note of it on the FOX AI website.

I wonder why they would not want to be selling tunes and making some $$???

abasket, It definitely was there, but not any longer. It is also possible that I was looking at a different website.

Just watched this week’s show on Hulu. Didn’t like La’Porsha nearly as much as the judges did. Or those pants…

I’m sure not going to miss JLo talking over the other two when they are each giving their comments. Very disrespectful and shows how narcissistic she is.

We were a couple weeks behind on our DVR and got caught up this weekend. I also can’t believe they are down to six already! We fast forwarded past the background stories, so I had no idea Avalon had any issues. I never noticed anything.
We were very surprised when Olivia Rox was sent home. Also, sad to see Avalon go home. We really enjoyed her. Seems like some boys should have went home instead, but that’s always the way Idol goes. That’s also the reason Dalton will stay longer than he should.

It feels to me that the rapid rate at which they’ve sent the contestants home has made it hard to bond with any of them.

My D once said she could never be on a reality TV show because she doesn’t have a sad backstory. Holy cow. Sonika seems to be the only one without a tragic past. Her worst thing is being shy!

I always loved Adam Lambert and don’t even remember who won his season. It was good to see him tonight.

Most did well on at least one song. I liked Trent and McKenzie best. LaPorsha is a great singer but that hair is so distracting. In Dalton’s first number, it felt like the band was playing a completely different song. Sonika is still boring. I would rather they had saved Tristan.
