They didn’t show him in the auditions, but a local kid who plays outside the baseball stadium after games got through, so I have someone to root for. Didn’t know he could sing, but he plays guitar well.
Some of these must sound a lot better in person than on TV. How the green-haired girl and the daughter whose mom knows JLo got through is a puzzlement.
They keep saying that there are a disproportionate number of women to men this year, so why not have more women than men in the final 20? If those are truly the most talented 20, it shouldn’t be determined by sex.
I watched later and was thankful for the DVR fast forward button!
Bye bye Poh - what an odd person she was. Thankful we don’t have to watch her or her odd sister crying buckets of tears over her…
Continue to be hugely impressed by Avalon. Poor mono guy! It’s hard for me to watch him, but if you just listen to him he has more promise. The guy from Moscow (tall, thin, dark hair) who sang in the trio with Sonika and Stephany was interesting - I’d like to hear more from him.
Still think the clips aired are too choppy. Or maybe it’s the performances that are choppy! It’s hard to highlight any one contestant in their 10 seconds of fame in a 30 second performance!
I don’t like the drama when they get into group performances. There is always someone who gets dropped from a group and then struggles to find another group to join. You really get to see the true colors of people then. I think Jennifer Loepez reiterated the fact that she was successful because people liked working with her and that she was easy to get along with so having an attitude doesn’t really help. Hopefully it will improve when it gets down to the final 20. I am more eager to watch towards the end when there are less then 10 contestant left on the show. Also it seems kind of obvious who the judges like based on the individuals getting more focused air time.
Here’s a breakdown of what’s coming up schedule wise if you’re interested. I don’t like the way they are rushing this season!!! :
The Top 24 will be split up into two groups of 12, with one group performing on Wednesday February 10 and the second group on Wednesday February 17. Both episodes are 1 hour long. There are two Idol tapings scheduled for February 2 and February 11. It’s probably a good guess the tapings are Top 12 performance shows. Stuffing 12 singers into an hour means it will HAVE to be taped ahead of time. Also (tiny spoiler) a rumored gender imbalance means the singers will be split randomly between two groups.
The JUDGES will be VOTING on Thursday February 11 and Thursday February 18, sending FIVE contestants home on that episode. Additionally, on the 11th and 18th, according to the FOX press releases, “Favorite former IDOLS will return to mentor and sing with the contestants.” It’s unclear whether the Thursday shows will be live or not.
A Top 14 will be revealed on Thursday February 18. There is no information about Wednesday February 24 and Thursday February 25. BOTH EPISODES ARE TWO HOURS LONG. An earlier press release stated the Top 10 will be announced and perform on February 25. I’m assuming the Top 14 will perform on February 24. It’s not clear whether fans or the judges will choose the Top10.
Check out the FULL AMERICAN IDOL 15 schedule HERE. I’ll cut and paste the semi-final roundsection below:

Thursday February 11 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) – Semi-Final Round – The judges vote on who will stay in the competition. FIVE contestants leave the competition. “Fan Favorite” Idols return to mentor and sing with the Top 24
Wednesday February 17 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) – Semi-Final Round – Twelve of the Top 24 perform
Thursday February 18 – (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) – Semi-Final Round – The judges vote on who will stay in the competition. FIVE contestants leave the competition. “Fan Favorite” Idols return to mentor and sing with the Top 24. The Top 14 are revealed.
Wednesday February 24 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) – Semi-Final Round – “Fan Favorite” Idols return to mentor and sing with the Top 14 (presumably).

I think they manipulate the stories a bit, based upon what they choose to show. For example, they made the group (the one that had the Russian guy) look mean, and that they’d abandoned the other group member. However, who knows what actually happened to cause that? Perhaps she was very insistent on doing her own song, obnoxious, and unwilling to work with the others. They mentioned her mother being a problem. When you don’t see the entire background, you can’t know. And that influences the way you think about those people.
As far as JLo being so easy to get along with, I heard she brings along an entourage of 20 people, to keep her looking beautiful, and is quite the prima donna. Perhaps it’s only her opinion that she’s easy to get along with, who can know the truth?
I had to miss most of the first hour, and I was fine with that. I don’t really care about the drama of getting into groups. i mean, it’s interesting but not why I watch. And the storylines are always the same – someone always gets sick; someone gets left high and dry from their group; some guy hits on all the girls; some girl is a diva; someone is a stage mom.
I was mostly pleased with who they put through based on what I saw of the singing. And I hope the rumor is true that they put forth more girls because they really are more talented this year.
I think I mentioned earlier in the thread that it’s ending early in April. I don’t really know why!!! :
American Idol will go out with a bang, expanding to a three-night finale in a shortened season, the Fox show confirmed Wednesday night (Jan. 6). The show’s final season will be four weeks shorter than last, as Billboard exclusively reported last month.
The three-night grand finale will kick off April 5 with American Idol: American Dream, a one-hour retrospective episode, featuring Ryan Seacrest, current and former judges, contestants and the behind-the-scenes team sharing their Idol memories.

Then, the remaining finalists will battle it out live from the Dolby Theatre on Wednesday, April 6, at 8 p.m. The winner will be crowned Thursday, April 7, at 8 p.m. The series will end with a “farewell celebration” and the crowning of the 15th and final American Idol winner.
Abasket again: Traditionally it has gone till later in May. One of my kids birthdays is May 24 and that was often the finale night. (yeah, we were a big AI family!)
I’m sure it was staged, but you saw groups that really seemed to work together, and all got through, or 3:4 advanced. In other groups, there was tension. I don’t know how the judges picked up,on that, but maybe 1-2 went through. Some of the feedback, like, look at the audience, made a lot,of sense.
My D and I are really intrigued by Dalton and his song choices. Can’t wait to see what he does next. Everyone seems really good this year. Or maybe they only showed the best ones. Seems like a lot of 15-year-olds, too.
