I can’t believe that they put through the girl from California whose parents are Idol junkies. I thought her performance was cringe-worthy and I have no doubt that they wouldn’t have advanced her if her parents hadn’t been in the room.
I loved Dalton from Dallas, the boy who put his own spin on Phantom. Also liked Melanie and Brandon, the two whose songs Harry took part in. Tristan whose Army mom surprised her was also good.
@alwaysamom …I didn’t think she was that fantastic either. I couldn’t stay awake for the last half hour and I think I must have missed a lot of good ones.
I was watching another show the last hour and flipping back to AI during commercials. Unfortunately, I seemed to miss the performances and just heard the judges’ comments. I did like the Phantom guy, though, and was not impressed by the Idol’s-biggest-fan.
Loved her too–and the earlier girl they said they thought could win–and the boy who lost his bro. Can’t wait until he have names memorized. My fave in this show is Hollywood Week. I love seeing how everyone performs, or muffs it, under pressure. They used to show more Hollywood than they have recently, and I was bummed about that.
Haven’t watched the show in years, but I’m watching this as the series finale. Have to agree that had the family of the biggest idol’s watchers hadn’t been in the room that young girl would not have been sent through. But hey, they have to send a bunch through and then they won’t make it past Hollywood week. There were a few incredibly strong entertainers already. Definitely the last girl of Thursday - the one whose mom is in the service - was one of them. I hope the show doesn’t get all schmaltzy though.
I was disappointed that tonight was only one hour. The story of the boy accidentally killing his brother was heartbreaking, but there were some youngsters with cute personalities. Not sure the voices were all that impressive, though.
Wow, only an hour tonight - that was easy peasy! Much less of a commitment than two hours!
No one truly struck my fancy tonight. The first girl with the singer mom - well the mom had me crying- and the girl was good - but not outstanding for me.
The country boy with the Bieber hair - very young - interesting advice Harry gave him about losing the twang.
The 17 year old guy with the flirty grandpa - yuck - that was disturbing! I loved the song the kid sang - just didn’t like him!
The quirky Brooklyn girl…REALLY out there…and good - but wonder if she’s a one hit wonder.
And wow, that last story- the guy whose brother died - what a horrible experience to have to grow up with.
I think the strongest singer was the gal whose Mom knew JLo…but since she had a,ready recorded and had connections…couldn’t she gave found another venue for her daughter and left AI for those who don’t?
My favorite singer was the weird kid with the the
Grandpa…but I’m not sure I just didn’t lime his song more than his voice.
Many of these contestants have an already established music resume - many have tried out for other shows. I’ll admit I’ve peeked at the supposive top 24 and many of them have a history. It’s pretty typical the last several years.

A number of them with prior recording contracts, professional musicians, careers as backup singers. Shoot, Adam Lambert was already on Broadway.
I’ve been catching up with Idol on my dvr and my favorites so far are Dalton, the boy from Dallas who put his own spin on Phantom; Lee Jean from Bluffton SC (woohoo for Hilton Head where we have our southern home); Tristan whose mom is in the military; Gianna whose mom J-Lo knows; the quirky girl Jenn from Brooklyn; the friends from Provo Utah, liked them both but I imagine that the guy will be more popular; the flight instructor whose mom died of breast cancer; Thomas, the Arkansas boy with the cute smile; Jake the plumber who sang the Kenny Loggins song; Sarah from VA who sang the Megan Trainor song; and how could you not love the last guy, Elvie who sang House of the Rising Sun.
As for previous experience and contracts, it has always been this way on Idol. Many contestants through the years have had previous record contracts, lots of experience and work as professionals. None of those things is against the rules. It’s a tough business in which to find success even with previous success and contacts so there’s no reason to disallow anyone because of that. Heck, look at some of the previous winners and finalists of Idol and you’ll see that even reaching that point with extensive exposure doesn’t guarantee success.
I like the gal with the scratchy voice, whose sister made it to the top 24 last season. I also liked the red headed gal. Both were just fun to watch and different.
I think JLo is a boring and sometimes aloof judge. I don’t like her and she can’t hold a candle to Paula. Harry is the best and is just funny. Keith is Okay.
The last audition ever. It’s like the end of an era. lol
I am a little baffled about tonight. A girl my D went to school with auditioned. My D did not know this in advance and was surprised when she saw her. It was the girl with the dog and the stars on her dress. My D says this girl is incredibly talented (music performance degree, professional credits), but it seemed to me like she just halfa$$ed performed tonight. And that getup–she didn’t need that. It makes me wonder if she wasn’t “hired” to act that part. Very strange.
I’ll agree she was strange! How funny to see someone you know on stage!
I always tend to enjoy guy singers better than girls but have to say it seems this year there are more girls than guys. Makes me wonder how much the show “REALLY” wants to bookend Kelly Clarkston! I loved the first girl who performed. The last guy had a lot of personality.
I have peeked at the supposive top 24 - it was interesting to me to watch and then see if that person makes it through. Some that seemed totally solid did not - interesting!
I’m happy that they didn’t show too many ridiculous auditions this year, although I could easily have done without any at all. In this week’s auditions, I liked the girl nicknamed Po whose sister was on last season (and whom I never liked!), , Adam who is another previous contestant, and my favorites were Jenna (with the hat) who played piano and Avalon Young, the girl who sang the Beyonce song and played the guitar.
I have been watching on and off for years. I really liked the red-headed girl and a few more I can’t recall right now- getting old. I agree about Brenda Carlisle daughter- I am sure her mom could get her set up with her connections. I thought the young boy- who looked like he was 10 was adorable- I doubt he will get far in the competition.
Last night was the first night of “Hollywood” - they always go through the people so fast and there are many that don’t get shown!
I like Dalton a lot - the cool looking guy who sang with the green haired girl (who I did NOT like). The guy with mono did pretty well. Emily the country girl - though I don’t like country!
Group nights are always fun - bring on the drama!!!
