I suppose it’s possible they are using it as a way to gauge interest. See who responds and how they respond?!
It’s possible that they’re using it as a way to gauge continued interest but I wouldn’t read into it that much. A lot of schools ask for mid year grades for a variety of reasons.
Yes, we received it as well.
My daughter initially applied for RD and then received a note from American asking if she wants to switch to EA. She is very highly motivated and interested in American so we switched. She has high grades and high SAT as well so we were also bit surprised why the mid year grades are being asked. But good to know atleast someone else who has received…
All the best
Hmmm…my son didn’t get an email. Interesting. Not sure if that’s a good sign or not. Ugh. So ready for this application season to be done. Im not good with the unknown.
My son also received an email today asking for senior year grades. We sent first quarter grades. I thought it should be good news but perhaps it is just standard
Think positive. His application is strong as such and they dont need anything more to make decision. All the best
Thank you. Same to you.
also received it for an EA candidate. This is a reach for my '25 so took this as neutral to good sign.
The HS already sent 1st quarter grades so unsure if we need to point that out? May send quick note with a copy of them and saying mid-term grades aren’t ready for ages…
My son received the same thing. He is an EA candidate. Thank goodness for this forum because it actually went into his junk folder! Because I had read this, I asked him to go look for it and he found it. I’m feeling a little concerned because we thought his grades, etc, were within the range of what American was looking for (Unweighted 4.0, hard classes, very strong essays and ECs) so hopefully this can only be a good thing! I hope!
Someone on Reddit said they contacted their admission rep and were told the mid year grades email just sent this week was a mistake by their system to almost all applicants and to ignore. Can anyone confirm this?
yes! '25 emailed their rep and they said it was sent by mistake…
yes, my son also got that request. His school is on break until the 6th, hoping this is a good sign!
Whoops, my son did reply with his report card to his local AO rep.
My daughter got it. She replied and asked if they were looking for a current report or midyears grades. Her counselor said that it was sent in error and that her application ws complete.
My son responded to the email and to his admissions rep and they just responded “thank you”. They did not say it was sent in error. This is frustratingly confusing!! Why would some be told it was sent in error?
It’ll be fine. They’re probably just tired of explaining it was an error.
I assume it will be fine but it’s frustrating for my son to have to race around and get his grades submitted (they aren’t due for the teachers until January 8th) if this isn’t something that they need. It’s extra headache for him. Did anyone else have a counselor say that they needed them and it wasn’t a mistake?
if the grades aren’t ready they will not expect them anyway! I would (edit: have the applicant!) write your specific counselor about the email you got and tell them when grades are ready.
Seconding that even if it wasn’t a mistake they wouldn’t have expected them until after the school had them ready. I don’t think emailing is necessary in this case since the student already sent his grades, but if you feel it is make sure your student is the one who emails, not the parent/guardian.
That’s what he did. He explained they weren’t ready yet to his specific admissions counselor at American and she wrote back “great, thanks” or something like that. It was weird just given that others on this forum have gotten back that it was a mistake. But he did write to his admissions counselor to explain.
