and speaking of movies ...

I thought War Horse was very good. But the behavior of some of the people in the theater made me foam at the mouth, especially the twit sitting behind me who did not stop exclaiming and giggling inappropriately throughout. And she was middle-aged! My advice is to go in the middle of the day when there is no one else in the theater, and sit far, far away.

BTW, the two lead horses were apparently played by dozens of horses.

Not such a great year for the movies…Consolation, see #3:

Yesterday, I took two fifth graders and one high school student to We Bought a Zoo. We all really liked it. It is a really cute movie…

A lot of it was computer animation, but it was hard to tell which scenes. Running through that trench had to be animated. Knowing this will help put your mind at ease

Ok, I will admit it; I chose MI, with “crazy Tom”, and made my family go with me. I LOVE action movies! It was no “Bourne”, but it hit the spot. And I’ve decided I’m keeping my Netflix DVD subscription for a cheaper “fix”. We paid about $75 for four IMAX tickets in San Francisco.

We found out after we watched War Horse that is is actually taken from a children’s story and the film is a Spielberg adaptation of a British Theatrical production that is also now playing on Broadway.

The Broadway show uses puppets (for the horses), and is supposed to be very creative.

Read War Horse. It is magnificent. Written years ago, but hey, so are stories by Mark Twain. I would like to see the play, the puppets, but we shall see…

D’s are off to see The Artist tonight. This is a silent film getting excellent reviews. I will let you know what they think of it.

Saw Sherlock Holmes and Mission Impossible==Both movies are good!

We have a semi-tradition of going to the movies in the afternoon of Christmas Day…a few years ago Marly came out for Christmas and having laughed out loud reading the book (anyone who owes a lab will laugh out loud reading this book!!) thought it would be the perfect movie…oh my…discovered I can not go to any movie that has an animal suffering or dying …I horrified my child by dissolving into gasping sobs at the end of the movie!!! Knew immediately War Horse was not a movie for me!! Saw MI and enjoyed it!! (my daugheter is in love with the BMV concept car driven in the movie!!)

I first saw the MI trailer at the BMW dealership! I believe there are at least four beamers in that movie, not to mention several other only-in-LA cars.

We just returned from seeing The Adventures of Tintin: the Secret of the Unicorn - 3D. Husband, son (23), daughter (21) and I all liked it. My son collected the Tintin books once upon a time, many years ago  - and my daughter read them all also. Really enjoyed the afternoon.

SouthJerseyChessMom: Being Elmo: a Puppeteer’s Journey comes out on DVD on April 3, 2012 - in case you couldn’t find it in South Jersey. Yes, I live in Texas - spent some time this afternoon barefoot and in shorts. Life is good. :)

Shrinkrap…you are correct…the cars and technology are fun to watch! I am not suprised that BMW is showing clips…we even said to ourselves “BMW should use that as an ad!!” when TC drives a different BMW over a 100 foot drop and walks (well… crawls) away with not that much damage to the vehicle! Personally, I want the on-windshield interactive GPS!

Speaking of BMW- did you ever see the series of their short films? Directed by the likes of Ang Lee and John Frankenheimer? ( featuring Clive Owen as the driver)

[BMW Films - The Hire - Ambush - YouTube](<a href=“BMW Films - The Hire - Ambush - YouTube”>BMW Films - The Hire - Ambush - YouTube)

Dragged to Hugo today. It was better than I thought it would be (not raving here…it just didn’t have me wishing I could get up and leave).

^^There actually IS on windshield GPS ( “heads up display”), thigh not interactive, on the 640i. Beautiful car, especially in Mohave. Drool…

^ Yes! We have “The Hire” DVD.

I’m surprised anyone could enjoy Mission Impossible. I had looked forward to it, I have always liked Tom Cruise, but this movie was so boring and so cheap!

So full of plot holes and ridiculous convoluted logic, that I had to stop paying attention. And the endless, pointless violence, verging on becoming a cartoon. And of course every scene, and the entire movie, stunningly and absolutely hollywood-predictable.

It seemed more like a movie with a lot of parts stuck together, a movie by committee. I could picture them sitting around saying things like, “yeah, lets do a few scenes in India!” and “oh right, lets use the tallest building in Dubai!”.

Such a total waste of money we spent on tickets.

^ All true.* And at IMAX prices no less… except the waste of money part.

And I had sworn off paying to see Tom because of his anti psychiatry rants.

We saw War Horse yesterday. MIL and I thought it was pretty good. DH and DD didn’t particularly care for it. We saw The Descendants a few weeks ago and thought that was great!

Loved Descendants, HATED Young Adults, Tinker whatever…boring script and/or poor editing, (the book is wonderful…the movie not so much…script wise) Saw Incredibly whatever (Sandra Bullock/Tom Hanks) not a light movie but it is REALLY good. Won’t see Warhorse (I can’t stand movies about animal suffering)
