Anyone else never watch Game of Thrones?

Never watched a single episode—it just didn’t appeal to me.

I think the reference to antlers is something Joffrey had Roz do in season 2. Not that the show hasn’t been controversial but some of what’s been posted is inaccurately portraying the scenes. As always on social media, one post does not necessarily reflect the truth.

Some of what happens in GOT is representative of how humans have treated each other, and not always in the long past. It’s not supposed to be “enjoyable.” Personally, I don’t watch movies and shows where everyone ends up depressed and without hope. But those also win awards.

@Marilyn - exactly. What people decide to watch as “entertainment” is very personal. Personally, having been through a divorce and many emotionally difficult years, I try to avoid anything that’s going to make me cry. I can’t stand “touching” emotionally manipulative, overly dramatic tv shows. And I don’t particularly enjoy romantic movies either. To each his own.

Of course! I think answers here are about what individuals can’t take, not condemnations of the show. I’ve been flat out told, “don’t watch this” by people who do and know me. It’s fine for people with a different reaction type. There is one occurrence I’ve read about several times that just hearing about makes me ill. I won’t even write it.

Not me either. My husband is hooked. It’s just not the kind of thing that interests me.

I’ll take well done fantasy over “pulled from the headlines” crime shows or morose, depressing, everyone has problems emotional dramas any day. At least with dragons and White Walkers you don’t feel like you are watching someone else’s real-life suffering as entertainment.

It started when I was in grad school and had no time. I have heard you need to watch it from the start and I dont have time. I also am rather sensitive to violence. I work at a job that can be very traumatic so I prefer to watch happier things.

Never

Lots of people at my workplace do not watch it, sometimes because they are worried about seeing violence or sometimes because they are put off by its opening scene, which has strong fantasy elements. But those who do not watch at least the first five episodes of season one to give it a try and see what they think are making a mistake.

In my opinion, it is the single best show ever presented on television. It is thematically deep with amazing depth to each character and a riveting plot.

For reference for those deciding whether to watch it, other TV shows that I believe come close to rivaling it in quality include The Sopranos, Lost, Battlestar Galactica, Breaking Bad, the first season of Homeland, Mad Men, the first season of Downton Abbey.

Some of those shows I do not love, but I would say that these are all shows that have something interesting to say about the dynamics among and choices made by human beings. These also all are shows with believable characters who are complex and not simplified into “types.”

If you like to spend time after a show speaking with your friends and family about what you believe are the themes/ importance of what you just saw, Game of Thrones is a great choice for communal viewing.

I started yesterday because of all the buzz. I am liking it.

I just finished Suits and enjoyed it.

I like shows with violence, sex, suspense, all that drama.

It appears OP likes to start threads like this.

I read a lot of wonderful literature that most people don’t. But I don’t then say “they are making a mistake.”

Nope, never had a desire. Still don’t. No regrets even if I don’t know any of the “stuff” from it.

There’s very little TV we watch so many popular shows get skipped.

To me, life is too short to spend much of it watching TV. The local news is the #1 thing watched around here since I catch it most mornings before work.

This particular show hasn’t ever come up at my workplace lunch table either - others do (Big Bang Theory, etc). I doubt many of the folks there watch it or it would have come up at some point.

Personally, I don’t understand watching hours of sports day in and day out (thinking DH here) where 50 to 90% of the time (depending on the sport), nothing is happening. And you have no idea when it will end.

My oldest jokes that I know the most about a show I don’t watch! I can name the top 7-8 actors/characters and enjoy watching them in interviews. Plus, I would tease my oldest “is Jon Snow still ok?” Seth Meyers had a great skit where he invited Jon Snow to a dinner party, many views online. Last year a marathon was on and I told my other sons. They asked which episode? When I said The Rains Of Castamere, they said if you watch one episode, it’s a great one. I saw the last half, wow. It didn’t make me want to go back and start the series but I can understand the popularity. All 3 sons are huge fans.

Never. Can’t stand violence- not on tv, not in movies (walked out of Pulp Fiction and Three Kings) and not in real life.

Me. Don’t have time for a whole other long tv series in my life. I don’t watch enough tv for that.

Nope, but DH got hooked watching it on his long-haul airline flights. Has been rewatching and reading blogs, too – very much unlike him! I’ve read the summaries for this season, but am not really ready to invest in it.

@CountingDown - re-watching and reading blogs is the only way to figure out what the heck is going on! Lol!

@Trixy34 DH has been in the family room with all the lights out on Sunday nights for the past eight weeks, and then heads to the blogs!
