17yo says Romano will win that contest. ;)

Mentioning Jason Ritter he deservedly was nominated for an Emmy this week for his portrayal of Mark on Parenthood. He’s got a pretty heavy category but I am just excited to see him nominated. Hopefully this is a clue for him to stick around a little more.

If you’re curious here is the full list of nominees for Guest Actor in a Drama Series:

That’s great, mdem! I didn’t notice that.

Congrats to Jason but that is an unusual category. The two actors who are nominated for The Good Wife were in FAR fewer episodes than Jason was on Parenthood. To consider him a guest actor is strange.

Recurrent characters are often judged as guest actors. It IS odd.

Another vote for Maura Tierney. I think the character is closer to her and she is very close to Dianne Wiest who played the character in the movie. And Mae Whitman is much closer to her height!!! I’ve often thought that there is no way that the tall Lauren Graham and the uber tall John Corbett would spawn the tiny Mae Whitman. But oh well.

I think parenthood is just okay, but NBC cancelled Harry’s Law and Awake which I liked better.

Lauren Graham’s Sarah is the weakest link in the show for me. I find her annoying, and her instant success as a playwright is very annoying.

IRL Lauren Graham is (or recently was) dating Peter Krauss (Adam.)

myth, there’s a Facebook campaign to save Harry’s Law. Ds2 and I love that show.

I agree with you, mythmom. Big surprise, right?
Also agree heartily about Lauren Graham. I’m particularly disappointed about Harry’s Law because a family friend has lost her job with that cancellation. And her husband left a Broadway show to move to L.A. this spring to be with her. The precarious life of an actor!

alwaysamom: Oh what shame for your friends. Harry’s Law could be silly in its treatment of the law, but it had a great, beating heart. And Kathy Bates could be riveting reading the phone book. Her performance, including her rendition of the Tom Waits song, had me in tears for a week. But now I’ve learned to perform the song myself.

I never saw Harry’s Law but usually enjoy Kathy Bates. I thought I might be the only person who is not a Lauren Graham fan. I didn’t like her in Gilmour Girls either. Maybe she needs to do “American Horror Story.” I found Connie Britton’s character terribly annoying in “Friday Night Lights” but really liked her in “American Horror.”

Sorry I’ve missed watching Harry’s Law.

In terms of “guest actor”, I suspect Jason got that title because he’s not one of the main/regular actors. And I agree with comments about Lauren Graham. I kept having the feeling she could have been so much better (or she wasn’t getting into her role very well), but I thought the part may not have had enough lines in it for her to say. At least, I recall thinking she was much more comfortable-looking when she was angry and had to express herself. But, when she looked mopey or had to portray “just” emotions, she was terrible: unconvincing and stiff. I also didn’t at all like how self-absorbed her character was. Her character basically never related to her kids. It was all about her play, which seemed totally unreal, and her affair with Jason, which also seemed contrived.

I feel the need to right the universe a bit here and chime in that I love Lauren Graham. The character of Sarah that she plays on the show is, of course, a bit annoying. But I think she’s supposed to be that-----

:)

Then Graham needs to search out a less annoying part because Lorelai was annoying on Gilmore Girls too.

While Jason Ritter appeared numerous times during the season he was never added as a Series Regular so he was still a Guest Star.

I think I’ve defended Lauren Graham too many times to count. When her storylines are good I really do like her (like when she is acting against Mae Whitman or any of the other siblings on the show) but sometimes her storylines are a little off (mainly this whole playwriting thing). I should’ve prefaced and said that I loved her on Gilmore Girls.

Lauren Graham does come off as slightly flighty in some of her interviews. She is especially good anytime she appears on Ellen, Craig Ferguson, or Conan.

Well, now. Cartera: them’s fighting words. Gilmore Girls is one of my favorite shows and I love Graham in that role. It’s all a matter of opinion…

I like Lauren Graham a lot…except when she is playing opposite Jason Ritter…either the storyline or their age difference…something just doesn’t feel right. She looks like a lot of fun (watched the you tube videos of her on the shows mdemvisi suggested).

churchmusicmom: Is your loyalty influenced by her Barnard alum status? Nothing wrong with that. Barnard has turned out Cynthia Nixon and now Greta Gerwig. Not bad.

Nope. My D and I (and others) have loved that show like crazy even before she went to Barnard.

"Maybe she needs to do “American Horror Story.” I found Connie Britton’s character terribly annoying in “Friday Night Lights” but really liked her in “American Horror.”

Them there are fightin words…I am STILL grieving over the ending of FNL.
Loved every character in the show.
And I found Britton very very annoying in American Horror.

JMHO.

I agree with msicmom—I loved Connie Britton’s character in FNL.

One of my favorite quotes is from her character, Tami Taylor (who is a Highschool counselor at the time):

“The big deal is it’s part of my job, to make sure that you don’t grow up stupid. It’s bad for the world.”

My hero.

Churchmusicmom: I didn’t mean to suggest you are not objective – just fooling around. We loved Gilmore Girls too. D 's friends often said we WERE Lirelei and Rory because of how fast we talk and all our in jokes. It’s just since then I’ve become somewhat disenchanted with Lauren Graham. But as you point out, all taste is subjective.

Lauren Graham was a guest judge on last week’s Project Runway.
