Applying to the College Class of 2017 (Starting College in the Fall of 2013)

Stanford does not give any aid for internationals?

But perazziman i think they do not give 100% financial aid, my friend also wants to apply in harvard and stanford with me but she needs 100% financial aid

BluelovexD then i think i should not apply in stanford

No one is answering of my problems!

For those of you who’ve done further maths, how hard is it really? Is it a lot of extra work?

And can you get books for further maths if you go in the markets and ask, just as you can get them for other A levels subjects?

Perazziman,

Thank you.
Cornell and Dartmouth are my Ivys, I’m still undecided about adding Yale to the list. I have 5 LAC’s: Bates, Middlebury, Grinnell, U of Richmond and Ohio Wesleyan(very, very long shot, I know). I have a host of safetys and mid-range like U of Rochester and U of Miami, then some high-end like Lafayette and Vanderbilt.

cursingmonk,

Yes, the courseload is quite demanding and needs a lot of skill and practice. The books are available, but at the larger stores or have to be ordered from Karachi. But it’s manageable, specially if you have given Add. Math and A Level Math, like I have.

zonafahd,

Stanford is full-need for International students and will meet all of your demonstrated need. However, keep in mind that applying for aid will put you in a separate applicant pool, as Stanford is need-aware for internationals, and keeps your financial status in mind while making a decision. It’s already more selective than all the Ivys except Harvard, and after you apply for financial aid your chances become even slimmer. But if you think you can make it, don’t let numbers and figures stop you.

@PakiRootsian, what’s Add math?

PakiRootian,

Is harvard gives 100% financial aid to international students?

I am doing Electrical Engineering from Islamabad but i don’t want to do EE and secondly the university in which i am studying is awfully bad but its my third semester here… Should i apply for harvard and stanford as a freshman? and financial aid is also my problem i will give my sat I and sat subject tests in physics and math II in december and january please advice me something… I want to do computer science from harvard and i have done my FSC with A grade please tell me about my chances?

Pakrootsian, So are you not thinking of majoring in math?

Most of the time, the math majors rave about

Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Stanford, Berkeley, Caltech, Chicago.

Sometimes, Yale, Duke, Cornell. Among the LACs Williams.

Please suggest something to me i am anxiously waiting
@perazziman i sent you an email i thought as you are a senior member so you can guide me but you didn’t reply.

zonafahd,

Here is the Harvard website check it out:
[Harvard College Admissions § Applying: Transfer Program](http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/apply/transfer/eligibility.html)

It is very difficult to chance people for admission to Harvard. They are extremely selective.

Zonafahd,

Perazziman got it spot on, it’s impossible for me to predict your chances because I have exactly zero acceptances or even completed applications! Yes, Harvard is need-blind and full-need for internationals. Please try even the crudest of sources, Wikipedia, for a complete list that Perazziman has already posted on this thread.

Perazziman,
Williams, CalTech, berkley, Stanford and even U Chicago are way, way out of reach, as are some of the other schools I listed. But I feel like I should take a chance or I might end up regretting it later. Might go for Princeton, still undecided with 50 odd days, haha.
And no, not a Math major. Will apply for that to my LACs, but first choice is mech. engg, second choice EE and third is the LAC Math choice.

PS, Zona, I think you won’t be qualified for a freshman application and should follow transfer guidelines. Three semesters is a long, long time.

cursingmonk,

Additional Mathematics -_-

@PakiRootsian Thank you!

Thank you @perazziman but you sound rude

Is this possible to get admission if your sat I and sat II is too good but NO ACT TEST NO AP ?

You are welcome zonafahd. The funny thing is that I thought the same thing about you when I read your message with all those questions. I guess my feelings came thru in my response. lol.

I was honestly thinking this guy does not want to do any work. He just wants to ask questions and expects everyone else to do the work for him. For example, so far you have given me no real indication that you are prepared to attend Harvard. You have an A in FSc. You have 3 semesters at an engineering school in Islambad. You want to quit engineering and go to Harvard where you want them to pay for your education. And you would like us all to provide you all the information needed on how to do it. Is that right?

Most of us would expect you to tell us how you are a top student at the engineering college doing research outside the university with some well known professor in Pakistan. That you have realized that your would like to study Physics or Biology or Chemistry or Math or something else because of your research and are thinking about applying to Harvard. We would like to hear something about how you have been practicing for the SAT and Subject Tests at home. That you have taken a couple of practice tests and scored nearly perfect scores. We would like to hear about how you have perhaps competed in some math or other science competitions at the national or the international level and placed highly. I don’t think getting an A in FSc and wanting to change majors after 3 semester at an engineering college makes one think, this kid is ready for Harvard, let us drop what we are doing and help him. Do you know what I mean?

@perazziman you know what little knowledge about anything is dangerous so you godda be having enough information about the KID you are talking about. Anyways my profuse thanks once again for your reply and i won’t ask any question anymore cause i really am not a idle person sitting at a computer desk everytime and letting people know tha they are useless.
