Applying to the College Class of 2017 (Starting College in the Fall of 2013)

@talha: Yeah I am sure, it was an MIT writing professor who discredited the essay portion to begin with. [MIT Professor Finds Fault with SAT Essay : NPR](MIT Professor Finds Fault with SAT Essay : NPR)

Interesting read, that article. I’ve always considered the essay a bit of an anomaly with the whole ‘SAT gauges how a student will handle college-level coursework.’ Not that any other part of the test is wholly consistent with that claim, but the essay is really useless if that is the actual aim of the SAT.

I have applied ED1 to Bates!
what are my chances?

Maaz you have impressive grades but that writing score might hurt you a bit for Bates because it is a writing-intensive LAC. But without knowledge of your ECs or essays or recommendations, I can’t even make a guess.
With holistic admissions you never know until you really do. Because I take that you’ve applied for aid and are an international student, after which the process is bordering on random.
Good luck! When does the decision come out? I’m going to be applying to Bates RD inshAllah. Want to exchange supplement essays?

Maaz,

Your CR score is impressive. Math score is competitive. If your MC Writing score is below 64 it could be an issue.

Maaz :stuck_out_tongue: :P

perazziman, can you tell me about the international financial aid at stanford and uchicago. They are need aware and from what I have heard, especially at stanford, aid puts you at a huge disadvantage. Furthermore is uchicago a good choice for computer scene?

@talha, It is my understanding that one has to be an academic star for an international to be accepted by need aware schools, if financial aid is needed. As far as CS is concerned, I believe Stanford is ranked at the top by USN&WR. Chicago is a top 30.

Aao jee Talha!! :D

My MC Writing was 69!
@PakiRootsian “bordering on the random” !
I hope for an acceptance.
The decision comes out on the 20th of Dec.
No issue sharing the supplements.
What are your stats btw?

Maaz, you will get in I hope and pray. I meant that admissions to the US are in general seemingly arbitrary if you tick that box that says Do you intend to apply for need-based aid? This is just something of an opinion of course.
Good luck for the 20th then
My stats are posted a couple of pages back under the title of first post

Sorry for the double post.

I am also giving SAT 2 in december, hoping for 2300 at least. I heard sat 2 isn’t required in liberal arts, but its an advantage. I will also give SAT 1 again in Jan. Also, is it true that if your father is retired u have a little higher chances of aid?

Maaz, You are good to go, in my opinion.

Hey guys, I am applying in US for class of 2017. @PAKIROOTSIAN Well i do agree with one of your posts here about Roots DHA. I am currently in Roots DHA with a gap year. There are lots of fake transcripts and predicted grades here. I can be horribly wrong but thats what i think/ How is Roots I9 going? :D

Haha ahtesham, that’s pretty much what you hear all over Pakistan about Roots DHA.

Roots I9 is good so far. Just hoping it’s worth it come March

@PakiRootsian Well lets see how US colleges turns to us. BTW i am not applying to ivys except Harvard. I really believe LACs will be fine for me.

Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll do very well on your merit alone and won’t need to get involved in faking :)

I have a question. You had two admittances to Cornell last year with 50,000$+ aid. Were they US nationals?

No they were Pakistanis. One was Anjum Malik and one Sara Tariq. Both have extra ordinary profiles.

THey were from which schools?
