:/ Could you share some stats? Cornell is like a dream

@PakiRootsian @talha5b Both of them were from Roots DHA. Both have 6As in AS Level and Sarah was table tennis national champion and Anjum Malik had a summer school regarding German Language Exchange program. Both had more than 2100 SAT score. @PakiRootsian IMO you shouldn’t apply Cornell. Cornell is very stingy while giving aid to internationals. Last year there were 4 acceptances from Roots DHA and only 2 got aid. Well i just want you to research before you apply. Where are you applying ED2?

If we have not given AS level, does that place us at a disadvantage?

I know they’re stingy, but they’re also need-blind. So at least the fact that I’ll have asked for 50,000$ will not come into consideration while reviewing my application. I have done my research and I know there’s very little chance I’m going to get money from there. But there’s still a chance :)

You are right somehow. Well Lets see. I hope you get in. Cornell is off my list already I think I will be fine for Top LACs.

@PakiRootsian, Cornell is NOT need-blind for internationals. It is need-BASED which means your application will be affected by the fact that your applying for financial aid but if you do get in, then you won’t have to pay a penny if you can’t.

Many people don’t know the difference between need-blind and need-based. There are just 6 need blind universities in the States out of which 4 are Ivy’s : HYP and Dartmouth. The other 2 are Amherst and MIT.

[Need-blind admission - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Need-blind admission - Wikipedia)

^
Er…no. Cornell, while need-blind to international applicants, do not necessarily meet their full demonstrated need.

I think, need blind is a reference to admission not financial aid. I do not know of any colleges that will offer 100% need blind scholarships (financial aid) even to Americans, among the top universities.

Oldfashioned, you really are old fashioned. Please do not limit your knowledge to Wikipedia alone. You clearly have no idea about the topic of discussion.

Please refer to this link. Kindly clear up any misconceptions you have about the difference between full-need and need-blind. ‘Many people’ just don’t know what they’re talking about. :)

sigh This is a topic which has been debated for LONG. I’ve searched enough on this topic to know that all Ivy’s and many other top uni’s in the States have written on their websites that they are need-blind but they are actually not. Sorry to burst your happy bubble but its true.

I know a number of students who’ve asked Cornell, UPenn admission officers themselves about their need blind policy and Cornell specifically said that those who apply for financial aid are put into a different ‘pile’ when making admission decisions.

@PakiRootsian i think Oldfashioned is right but its just me. 2 of the Roots DHA students didn’t got any financial aid even they have applied for it and they were accepted. You can check it. Their names are Sabih Sami Saddique and Yasir Sarosh… I am sorry but its true even MIT is not need blind but i can be wrong please do correct me if i am.

Sorry to burst YOUR happy bubble, but ‘Ivy’s’ and ‘Uni’s’ are things that do not exist.

If you want to convince yourself that everything is a conspiracy and there are people out to get you, be my guest.

UPenn is declared to be need-aware for international students so I don’t how that is a revelation for you.

Ahtesham, you are right. They applied for aid, were accepted despite this and not given aid because Cornell IS NOT FULL-NEED FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS. So you could be accepted but there is no guarantee you will get aid. Subtle differences, I know.

When I said it was a dream, I didn’t mean it was realistic. Dreams usually aren’t. But they drive me, my dreams.

Sorry if I’m coming off strong, oldfashioned. You’re entitled to your opinions. :)

How important is the commonapp essay word limit? my essay is about 650 words and i am finding it very difficult to bring it to 500 words

They were accepted because Cornell has Need Blind Admission. They were rejected for financial Aid because Cornell does not meet 100% Financial need of international students.

Need Blind is different than Full Need. Need Blind Admission does not mean they will give you money. It only means they will give you Admission without looking at your financial need.

@PakiRootsian Well mate, I think you should go with your dream dude. Good luck to you. Its good to apply and you won’t regret it later.
@perazziman Thanks for Clarification. It was very helpful. :D

:D well, forgive me for using short, informal terms like uni’s and ivy’s mainly because:

a) I thought this was the internet
b) I thought we lived in the 21st century
c) last time I checked…errr, aren’t we teenagers?

Look, i only pointed out this thing about Cornell because i really have read in a number of places these particular words said by Cornell, i-e: applications of students applying for financial aid are put in a different pile.

p.s: I’m not the English-police here, so yeah…i’m going to refrain from pointing out a mistake in paragraph 3 of ur last post pakirootsian ;)

talha5b, I’ve never really heard of anyone getting rejected because they went a bit overboard with the word limit but i’d srsly suggest to stick with the word limit…you can never tell what might bring ur ship down, lol.
How about bringing ur essay down to atleast 600 words? if not 500.

Oh you’re definitely not the 'English-police '

So where did people apply ED/REA/EA this year?

@collegeconscious Hey, I applied Hampshire college EA. Although won’t expecting good financial aid ;)
