Applying to the College Class of 2017 (Starting College in the Fall of 2013)

Thankyou guys!!

I got the aid package too and its…its just too good to be true!! Near full-aid thank God!!!

Hope everything works out for all of you!! :)

ony applied to 5 haha

Maaz, I think you could say that based on the fact that Wesleyan does not have the same endowment as a Grinnell or those other big $ schools. However, I have not looked into the fact beyond this. Since, the LACs do not have engineering, I have not been looking at them as closely as I should as my son is interested in engineering.

Guys, i need some urgent help. I asked one of my A’level tutors to write my recommendation letter and he said that in the form he got, there is a question about the courses he’s taught me and their ‘difficulty level’. Now for the courses he’ll obviously write A’level but he’s a bit confused about how he’s supposed to describe the difficulty level for A’levels. I mean, should he describe it in terms of the high school difficulty level or what?! Or should he describe the difficulty in terms of that 100-level, 200-level thing which U.S students use?

the deadline is near…so any ideas will be appreciated !

@oldfashion I think he should use his teaching experience. I mean if less students are getting A on further maths in a particular school then its obviously tough as compare to urdu if more than 60% have A grade in that subject
btw its just my opinion.

Hey guys long time since I have posted here, im an international student, anyways I just really wanted an opinion on something from you guys. I got into Imperial,UCL etc etc last year (planning on doing a Biology major with a concentration in molecular bio.) So far will go to grad school as well. But I don’t know plans change. Anyways I wanted to know if any of you think I should apply to USA as well. Ill probably apply to Bowdoin, Duke (for the sake of it I dont really think I will get in pretty crappy SAT score) and Sarah Lawrence not much and i will probably change my major if Im in the USA. I dont have any family in the USA which mainly puts me off in the first place. Anyway just need advice so… :/

@Worstgpa Hey there. If you can afford UCL or Imperial then i think you sjould definately choose it. Getting in US with the ranking of that level is quite difficult  But if you are looking towards a more liberal environment and not just focusing on Academics then USA is place for you. Good luck :D

@ahtesham I can afford imperial (rents saved up) but sometimes my head just keeps telling me to go to usa. But I might be all alone there which scares me tbh. I know I sound like an idiot but eh I guess I’ll give four institutions a go? Any recommendations for an overall good student with pretty much average SATs

Son got accepted to the College of Engineering at TX A&M, College Station.

Congrats perazziman!!

@WorstGpa Sure I think You should go for Emory, Duke, Uni of illinois, UNC and couple of more National Universities. Good luck and i know it will be an amazing experience for you living in USA alone ;)

@Worstgpa I am the US right now all alone, without any family. As long as you make the right friends, it is awesome. This is a shameless plug… But University of Richmond?

@ahtesham, thanks for the help! So my tutor should just describe it more generally right? I mean from his teaching experience? I was just confused whether there is a particular way of describing it or something…

@perraziman, thats amazing! Congrats to your son :)

@perraziman Hey Congratulations! and best of luck to your son
@oldfashioned Yeah! I mean he is an experienced teacher ofcourse and obviously can distuingish the difficulty level of the course so i think he should explain all that stuff from his experience and his point of view. And yes there is not any international way which allocates difficulty level to different courses ;)

Thanks guys. He is so thrilled he does not want to apply anywhere else. I am telling him to atleast apply to a couple of the top privates by Jan 31.

Someone from Aitchison College got into Princeton EA! More Pakistanis here please!

@alibhai Wow thats cool. Btw i think Ivy league Early acceptances are very rare to International students

Three from Pakistan got into Yale…

@diuron81365 Really!! Thats so cool! I hope we all end up in our dream college
