You are absolutely right. The transcript is the first barrier to admissions, once you cross it, no one even gives it a second look. A Yale alumni told me about this, that the first barrier is the transcript, then the recommendations, then the extracurriculars and then personal qualities. Most people only make it to the third.

Hey fellow Pakistanis!
I wanted to know if anyone has got an admissions decision for the University of Minnesota Twin-Cities yet. They say you get a decision by the end of Feb, but I haven’t got one till now.

You guys might wanna add my acceptance to UIUC. Im from Beaconhouse Defence Lahore.

@ CricketFreak!
Which course did you get in HKU and if you dont mind me asking, what are your Stats. Will you be going to HKU or you have other plans too? its a dream for me:)

@acroyal - Congratulations on your admission to UIUC! I presume you’re a US national. Correct me if I am wrong.

@aditya496 - I got an offer for a Bachelor’s in Engineering.
GCE O’level - 10A's.
GCE AS’level - 2a’s.
GCE A’level - 1A.
Currently, I am in my A2.
SAT Reasoning Test [Super Score] - 2120 [800M, 720W, 600R]
SAT Subject Tests - 2200 [Math1, Math2, Chemistry]
Plus, HEAVILY involved in co-curriculars and extra-curriculars.
And just in case - 113 (29R, 27L, 27S, 30W) on the TOEFL iBT.

I’d most probably go to HKU for my undergraduate studies. And the reasons are quite obvious - Got my 1st preference of course + The University’s worldwide reputation + A very healthy scholarship package. I hope you make it to HKU too. What are your stats?

Hi. I got interviews calls from both Yale and Princeton.

My Yale interview went average, at best, I think. I really think I could have answered a few questions in a much more effective manner. My Princeton interview was a light-hearted, 15 minute conversation over the phone. The interviewer didn’t really cross-examine me, which I thought was kind of strange.

Admissions to Yale-NUS is uber-competitive. I think more than 5000 applicants have applied for 60 odd places. More competitive than Yale or NUS itself. Did you have an interview with Yale-NUS admissions committee?

I’ve applied in the US to a range of universities.
I recently got an email from CMU Qatar telling me that “You stand a good chance of getting admitted here.” I dont know whether I should apply there or not. I have been to Doha and expect that thinking in CMU Qatar would be unidimensional. I want people to challenge my views and beliefs in college.

The main reason of getting an education abroad, for me, is to get outside my comfort zone and social circle. I dont think my experience in CMU-Qatar would be like that. Plus they have a horrible financial aid policy riddled with loans.

I believe that rather than just getting into top unis, I want a college that fits my description and ethos of a college experience.

Acroyal- I guess UIUC does not give scholarships to undergrad students. And that might be the reason cricketfreak thought you are a US citizen since only a US national can afford the education at UIUC!!

@acroyal - No international student, unless he is very rich, would apply to UIUC. This is because the university financially assists US nationals/permanent residents only.

hmmmm. What about the university of Minnesota, stony Brooke, university of buffalo, gtech and Florida tech. Am i likely to receive any scholarships from these places?

hey guys! did anyone apply to Yale - NUS? I got an email for an interview call with them. And they have a Candidate Weekend for accepted candidates only. Kinda just finishes the whole point of a CW but oh well. Anyone else who got an email from them?
