Applying to the College Class of 2017 (Starting College in the Fall of 2013)

@SAT456 Hey, Yup as you can see those post were i gues more than 1.5 years ago so thats what i was expecting if i prepare well but unfortunately (and inevitably) i am not a superman lolz so ended up with 1960. btw as i have listed above i had applied mostly to SAT-Optional colleges and zero Ivys. There is obviously a reason behind that ;)

Everybody please also include Financial Aid amount to this list to make it more informative :smiley:

@SAT456

No, I didn’t. Union College’s website states that admitted applicants are expected to pay at least $7500/year - and that is a bit too much for my parents. Plus, I am not really interested in Engineering.

The lowest ranked college I applied to is Skidmore College (42% admit rate). What about you?

@junaid yar don’t even see these acceptance rate when selecting unis coz they don’t represent International student… Btw I am wondering more than 50 people applied from Roots to Skidmore and competition will even be tough there…

Haha couldn’t resist this talk about Skidmore.

After USNews published that list of most generous colleges to intls, I think everyone added Skidmore to his/her list here. But I hope you guys know that at least 6-8 people in each class are UWC students who are on full aid. Sucks, but it’s true. 64 intl students at Skid overall received aid in 2011-2012 according to USNews, so that means 16 students will be funded every year. Add UWC into the bucket, and it’s fair to say most of us are screwed there. lol

@Junaid- I have mostly applied to medium-ranked colleges.

Competition in Trinity College is going to be tough as well. Many international students have applied there.

Does anyone here know about the financial aid policy of Case Western? Do they give out need based aid to international students? Was the guy who was accepted from roots in Case Western EA offered merit/need based aid?

^Guys,

Yes, I agree with you all. The competition is tough even at liberal arts colleges with admit rates between 30%-50% because LACs enroll only 60-80 international students each year.

Anyway, let’s hope for the best. I know that getting into a middle tier liberal arts college on almost full financial aid isn’t a ball in the park.

@SAT456,

Yes, Trinity College is pretty good and admissions are bound to be competitive at almost every top ranked liberal arts college.

By the way, does any one of you know Vassar College’s and Skidmore College’s admissions notification dates?

The last person who updated the list added colleges onto the list for which we already had acceptances listed; someone should fix that.

Interesting that you guys noted the ‘number of internationals getting aid.’ I didn’t pay any heed to that when finalizing my list, mainly because, like someone already mentioned, that data is very skewed due to a number of factors.

I know someone who spent her time finding out net aid given to internationals and dividing by total internationals who got aid to find out what her cost of attendance would be at various LACs. I feel that if a college really wants you, money won’t be a factor in their decision unless (a) you’re applying to a pathetic place that has no funds, or, less likely, (b) another international with exactly the same ‘feel’ as your application and same potential and ‘fit’ has applied and doesn’t want money.

In the end this whole thing, with international students asking for 0.2 million dollars worth of money over four years, makes the whole admission process quite random IMO. Good luck to everyone in the month ahead!

All this talk about such high competition at even colleges like Skidmore almost made me cry T___T
And here i was thinking of it as a match, if not a safety.

@SAT456 Yes he got some aid but i am pretty sure it isn’t even 50% of COA…
@Junaid123 Hell Yes, Trinity College is also on every person’s college list. One of my closest friend with 6As AS Level and 10As O Level with 1980 SAT score got rejected early decision. So definately they don’t want stellar stats (Obviously most college don’t want stats) but they want you (Just as @PakiRootsian said) so guys take a chill pill coz if you are that personality which a college whats in her ideal student then they don’t care if you have 1900 or 2200

^ ur friend got rejected with 6A’s in AS level ?! Are u sure?
I’m not sure if I should be happy with this news or even more worried.

couldn’t agree more with PakiRootsian. I have just stopped thinking about the decisions :smiley: Or even if I do think about them, I’m extremely pessimistic. Just so I’m not disappointed in the end. :P

US universities have hidden quota for internationals. So the competition is indeed the harshest for international students. We’ve all heard stories of people with many distinctions and international accolades not making into US colleges. Last year forums makes this aptly clear. A student with 6 distintions, 2300+ Sat score, international extracurricular, international awards was rejected from most US colleges, only waitlisted at Yale. He is at Cambridge now. So dont bring you hopes up and apply to Pak universities as your safety schools!
Good luck to all.

@oldfashioned 150% sure :wink: But not to worry guys we all knew that we all have a college with our name on class of 2017 whether it is Harvard or Hajvery University

@JerrySeinfeld Agreed man thats why i am even applying to IST and COMSAT just to make sure i don’t waste a year
