In my experience, a lighter course load in the first semester is better, to get used to the school and learn the ins and outs, of how things work. Then, ramp up in the second semester if things are going good. Thanks for stopping in.

Hey everyone! Hows it going?
Are any of you applying to US and Canada? Which universities for canada are you guys considering?

Also I was confused in a major between Engineering and Business/Finance/Accounting but considering how I dont like math very much neither am i very fond of Physics, I decided on pursuing Business.

I am going to be paying the full fee and therefore not going to be applying to fancy schools like u of t that charge around 30k just for tuition. Im looking more towards the normal average uni’s.

Let me know where you guys are thinking of applying and any thoughts about the majors?

Hey guys, I need to know a couple of things. Does the following list of colleges have undergraduate programs starting in spring?
MIT
Caltech
Yale
Dartmouth
Princeton
Columbia
Pennsylvania
Stanford
Duke
UCLA
UC Berkley

And if they do then whats the deadline for the submission of your application? And do they offer aid in the spring admissions?

Hey guys i am most probably gonna apply to USA provided i get good in my SAT1 and 2 (Inshallah) giving one in oct and the other in nov. i am Pakistsni but Indonesian citizen now. Going to apply for Computer Science

G33, Usually top universities will not allow you to apply as a freshman for the Spring Semester. They want you to come with the rest of the class for orientation etc. and get to know each other, in the Fall. Just go to the individual websites to those colleges and make sure which offer spring semester admissions.

Good luck zee, my son will be taking the SAT and the Physics SAT subject test on the same dates as you. Have you started working on getting recommendation letters and writing your essays?

Essays not really! I have just made my accounts for Uni applications. I will start writing the essays soon. Where is ur son applying and for which course? Ur son is lucky that he has a father like u. My dad doesnt want to send me to USA even though he affords it, he doesnt know anything abt studies he was like matrick pass and my mom cant do anything, my dad is too dominant in the house! Bt still i m applying hoping my dad will agree

He is interested in Electrical Engineering. He also likes CS, Physics, Biology, Math, English Literature, History and Economics. What he studies depends on where he is accepted.

He is applying to University of Houston or UT Dallas, Northeastern, TX A&M, UT Austin, JHU, CMU and MIT. He may end up applying to a couple of Ivies RD too, but not sure.

What educational system are you on in Indonesia?

Hey, i am doing IB. If u have seen on universities websites its written AP/IB credit. I am doing that IB course its like A levels but much more recognized in US. I am
Going to apply for Computer Science i will b applying to CMU its very hard to enter though and also UT austin. How was ur sons O levels? If they were good u can prolly apply to Gatech, Michigan they all are excellent unis

zee, That is awesome, CMU and UT Austin are both very competitive, so I hope it works out for both of you.

IB is becoming increasingly popular in the USA. I have heard they are scored on a 1-7 scale and HLs are given the equivalency of an AP or an A Level. Admission staff at American colleges will be quite familiar with them. So, you should not have any problem getting your record evaluated.

We live in the US. My son attends a high school in America. He is taking 5 AP courses. How many HL have you taken/ are you taking?

Hey ppl
I am new to CC…!!
9 A*s 1 A in Olevel
2090 SAT with 720 CR 710 Math and 660 Writing
What are my chances in Cornell, Macalester and Lafayette?
P.S. I need a lot of financial aid too.

Hey, I am taking 3HLS, 4 is the maximum u can take out of 6 subjects but my school doesnt allow us to take 4 HLs. I Am doing HL Maths, physics and Business Management and SL English, Indonesian and Computer Science. Sadly my school doesn’t offer Computer Science HL too so I had to take Business as HL. Which AP’s are ur son taking? and yeah u didn’t tell me about his intended major?. Btw I am doing Indian FSC/12th standard too. Its compulsory in my school, my school is Indian School actually its the best one in the country so can’t complain. IF ur son’s doing AP I would recommend applying to unis in Hong Kong and Singapore too they love AP applicants and give them admission very quickly. btw since u live i US, can u tell me hows the atmosphere there with muslims and Pakistanis actually I have no one living in US! No relative thats why my parents are a bit worried!

zee, There are Pakistani communities in all the big citites of America. Most universities have Pakistani Student Associations and International Student Associations in which you can make lots of friends, eat Pakistani foods and enjoy all the festivals together. There are usually some Pakistani professors on the faculty who should be able to advise you too. A lot of second generation Pakistanis are attending colleges these days, who can also help make the transition a little easier. I would probably avoid small colleges in tiny rural communities. I would tell your parents not to worry too much.

Hello Maaz, those are all good colleges and good O level scores. What are you interested in studying? Have you taken the SAT Subject Tests? What about A levels?

Perazziman, mate help me out a bit please. I need to know if my extra-curriculars are good enough to get me into a top uni.
1- Took 1st position in the young-journalist essay writing competition in RWP when i was in 8th grade. 3rd Position in 9th Grade.
2- Microsoft Certified Professional and Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist. I guess you would have heard of Arfa Karim the youngest MCP. She did the thing when she was 9 years old, I did it when i was 12.
3- Exceptionally good at football. Just need a trial to show how good I am.
4- Cisco Certified Network Associate.
5- Interned at Askari Bank for 3 months. Just to get a hang of how things work.
6- Worked with a local NGO helping the homeless in the rural areas.
7- Not exactly extra-curricular but I was in the top 3 of my class last year. Fully expect this to be the case this year too.

This year he is taking AP Calculus I&II (BC), AP Physics B (highest offered at his school), AP English Literature, AP US Government & Politics, and AP Economics.

He took 5 AP classes, Biology, Computer Science II, Chemistry, English Language, and US History in junior year (11th grade). He scored 5 on all the Exams offered by College Board on these subjects, except Chemistry on which he had a 4.

So, a total of 10 AP courses in junior and senior years.

G33 Those are good ECs. How about leadership? Did you start any clubs in school? By the way, have you taken your SAT, SAT subject Tests? How are your grades? You seem to be applying to some very competitive schools. Do you have any matches and safeties?

Perazziman i haven’t started any clubs or that sort of stuff. I’m from a Matric background and now doing Fsc. All these schools care about are studies.
I haven’t taken the SAT or the subject tests yet. I’m confident that I’ll get atleast 2100 and 760 minimum in the Physics, Chemistry and Math Level-IIC .
Grades are good. 853 in Matric with Phy, Chem, Math. The combined score on my sciences is 94%.
No matches really. But I have LUMS as my safety option

Perazziman I am taking Econ., Math, Business Studies and World History.
I will be taking SAT 2 Math 1 in Oct and SAT 2 World History in Dec.
I am confused about my GPA calculation ,too.
help me with it kindly.
I also want to know if I have a chance at any of the Ivies?

Those are good GOA’s i think ur son will surely make it. I hope my parents agree if u know there are so many propgandas that US is nt safe bt thats nt a matter to worry about though!!
