Do people put a housing deposit down even if NOT accepted yet? Because we are deferred from Early Action.
Pretty sure if someone with an earlier room selection time pulls you in you can do that. But I would call housing and ask to be sure. They are very helpful (334) 844-4000
Yes, if Auburn is a strong contender you pay the $100 right away, knowing you will lose it if you go someplace else, but with the cost to secure a time slot. BUT in order to actually select a room you need to pay the enrollment fee and that can take 24 hours to clear. So keep that in mind.
Editing to add that this is also why the waiting list moves some and rooms open up. Students who enroll and select a room have a change in plans and attend a different school or decide to live off campus.
Where do you go to pay the $100 if not accepted application yet? As deferred and still waiting to know if admitted.
Oh- I totally missed that very obvious point in your question- sorry. No you cannot pay housing deposit if you have not been accepted. Sorry I somehow missed the entire point of your question - I saw accepted and read committed.
No worries. Thanks! Hard to stay on top of all of this.
Itās a LOT and a lot of stress. S24 was accepted to Auburn and another school was tied for first. The other school also has a whole housing shortage issue. Super stressful. He is 100% committed to Auburn now and paid the housing deposit back in November as soon as he could (they also assigned a housing application date so he couldnāt even do that until 11/16). He is waiting to find out if he got the āOut of State RLCā for housing and if so, knows which dorm he will be in but then still has to select a room. If not, he will have to do the general room selection on whichever date he gets assigned in March and hope for the best. It was away easier back in the day when you just got assigned a room and roommate and showed up on move-in day and that was that.
We paid our housing deposit in October, well before we were accepted.
Oh wow- ok good to know that is an option.
How do you know they have āzeroā chance?
anyone know when the deferrals will start to move to decisions. The FAQ says early march and that is very soon from now
How did you do this? Wishing we did but didnāt even think that was an option!
A couple of days after my application was submitted, I received access to my application portal, and there was a place in there where I could sign up for the housing list and pay the $100 fee. Then, later, I was given a login day and time when I was able to rank housing in order of preference.
Even though your student hadnāt been admitted yet?
Yes, I remember thinking I was paying $100, and I donāt even know if I am in. It was a gamble.
she could land a spot hard to say. she may have a shot at the campus housing that is technically off campus but walking distance. The college just purchased the Union which is a few blocks North that may fly under the radar as it was off campus housing before next fall.
spots also open up as kids decide to go to other schools but you have to monitor the housing site everyday and grab them when they pop up.
there is also an Auburn housing/sublet Facebook group that always has people looking to fill a room in off campus housing that can be closer than āon campus housingā and living off campus has a lot of perks. now going into last year blind having my son living āoff-campusā would not have sat well with us, but knowing what we know now, it would not bother me and for some kids it may be a better option. as parents we stress but the stress was wasted energy in the end.
congrats on yours sons decision. its a special place.
my son got in first round EA, I forget what month that is and we put down housing deposit right away. he got Middle of day two, Village was gone (except honors/RLC). There was a ton left in 191 College (which knowing what he know now would be his second choice after the Village where he ended up (long story). looking back he said his third choice would be walking distance in off campus housing. He likes to study late in his room so having his own room was top consideration. off campus housing at Auburn can be closer than some on campus housing, it is cheaper, donāt have shut out periods during break they are 12 month leases so can go down in the summer (yes my son wants to stay down there for month June). all the stress in the end was not worth it. if you know where to look and do your homework it will probably work out just fine.
Thank you. Sheās very adaptable and truly likes the idea of getting random roommates so weāre going to stay flexible and see what happens!
also if anything is stressing you out or have any questions feel free to message me, Iāll do my best to answer or point you to where you can find some answers. donāt stress, we learned it was not worth it or warranted. Enjoy your sons senior year and be excited for what lies ahead.
my son will likely not attend Camp War Eagle. Is that a big deal? Will he be at a disadvantage registering for classes if he doesnāt go?
