Baltimore this weekend

This the latest WaPo report

Maybe we should start a betting pool about what will come out in the official police report. The 10 days that they’re allowed to not speak to anyone is over know. The mayor has hinted that some news will be dropped on Friday.

I predict - 4:47 PM on Friday, the typical time to dump news that you don’t want anyone to hear.

The word “inconclusive” will be heard many times.

The tox screen will show “recent” ingestion of marijuana but will be “not complete yet”.

All 6 police officers will remain baffled about how his injuries occurred.

The department will “deeply regret” not getting him medical attention sooner (like at the beginning, you blockheads).

There will be hand wringing over the policy which should have been in force beginning three days earlier of putting every suspect in a seat belt, every time. Oops, none of us was listening to the daily report that morning.

Finally, there will be veiled hints about his “agitated” state. Agitated can mean anything. It’s beautiful really. It can be some righteously indignant person yelling about their rights being violated. OTOH, it can be someone on PCP loudly trying to stop the aliens from landing by swinging an axe about. It can be anyone just raising their voice a bit to say, “hey, I think I need a doctor” or “can you please take those turns a little slower, I keep falling over”. They figured they couldn’t claim to be “afraid for their lives” in this circumstance so they went with agitated.

No, I don’t believe that Washington Post report. Not with a suspect who won’t come forward because “he is in fear for his life”. Not with his serious misunderstanding of the laws of physics. No, no, no.

Here is NOT the latest report, it is from 6 days ago, before all the rioting and trouble. Hmmm, it’s different…

Kicking and making noises = intentionally throwing your head into the wall?

At 9:24 AM they called the EMTs with a report of an unconscious male. They picked up the second suspect sometime after 8:59 AM. They police have not yet given a specific time for this pickup.

Has the toxicology report (is that what you call it) come out yet? If someone was on meth or heroine, I could understand the thrashing around, but if not on a hardcore drug, that seems a difficult case to make.

If someone were on meth or heroin could they run several blocks first? I don’t know much about meth but no one on heroin could do that.

I know zip about drugs. But being on drugs would be one of the only things I can think of that would explain lack of judgement to run from cops who weren’t even chasing you, and become so distraught you were banging your head in the transport. If that is actually what happened. Not sure how cops don’t have to seatbelt someone. Isn’t that against the law in Marylsnd?

The police may be entirely guilty in this case of murder. It certainly looks that way. Why are we debating that? Regardless of that fact, those rioters have no right to destroy Baltimore because of it. What does looting CVS have to do with Gray? Smashing random people’s cars? It makes no sense and should be stopped. Gay people hold rallies all the time demanding rights and reform, but they don’t smash cars and burn them to make their point. The people that protest abortion outside Planned Parenthood wave signs and shout, but they don’t loot the surrounding stores to get attention. People should have the right to protest, but not vandalize, loot, or injure. The mayor told the police to stand down. WHY??? Why do the thugs have all the rights?

So, the Mayor, City Council, and Police Commissioner are just now figuring this out? Or they knew about it and simply didn’t give a darn? Everyone is acting like police departments exist in a vacuum. They don’t.

We really don’t know the facts yet. We only know what the media has released. Most everything else is speculation.

And actually sometimes the Planned Parenthiid protestors are violent, and try to murder the people who work there, so I don’t know if that’s the best example of peaceful protesting.

Have those of you who are so sure that Gray did nothing to hard himself every been in a police station or holding cells as suspects are brought in? There is a lot of violence, uncontrolled yelling, spitting. All of them are yelling that they’ve been hurt. It often takes 4 cops to control an arrested person because they are on drugs. It is not right for the suspects to be beaten, but some do get hurt resisting arrest. Seven cops in Baltimore were injured since Sunday, at least one seriously.

greenwitch, just a side note - meth is a nasty, nasty drug! Meth is often mentioned on the evening news here, because WA has major issues with meth labs. Someone on meth quite likely can have the energy to run four blocks and be agitated and hostile. But we don’t know if meth was involved (or not), so this is just an answer to your Q at this point and nothing more.

Here we go, the coverup has started…someone leaks to the WP that a prisoner, who by the way ** COULD NOT SEE Gray ** , was intentionally trying to harm himself". The police have already said that Gray was not secured properly, so how would he know?

The guy who filmed the arrest said the cops folded Gray up like origami. Considering his injuries, I tend to believe him.

The amount of naivete on this board is astounding. When you are in a poor impoverished community, where you have systematically been abused, disrespected, and many times framed by cops, YES, you do run from the cops. Sometimes eye contact is all they need to arrest you. People seem to be glossing over the fact that BPD paid out close to 6 million dollars in settlements in 4 years, which is staggering. I would suggest you read this article detailing some of the behavior.

Lets pretend he “fractured his vertebrae” while thrashing about, how did he crush his own voicebox?

Well I could believe he was on some kind of drugs and thrashing about the van and banging his head. I couldn’t possibly believe he could sever his own spine.

I think we should wait for the results of the autopsy and the investigation. The speculation about a prior injury to Mr. Gray’s spine turned out to be inaccurate. Let’s not muddy the waters. Any number of things could have happened to him.

In other news, four tourists from Sweden, policemen visiting New York, subdued a madman on the subway…without choking him or shooting him to death. Will wonders never cease?

Hey, could the police departments from NYC, Ferguson and Charleston learn a thing or two from ole Sven and Nils?

He might also have a little more incentive to run from cops if he was a drug dealer well known by the cops, with a long rap sheet. And a felony count pending for dealing heroine, which could have sent him to jail for a long time. Maybe he had been framed for all those charges, including the one that put him in prison for two years? Those police officers in Baltimore sure spend a lot of their time framing people, I guess they don’t have any actual criminals to arrest so they have to justify their jobs by abusing and framing people (but of course only the white cops do that).

I would say that we really should wait until all the information comes out, but even if there was a video showing exactly what the police officers claimed actually happened, some would not believe it. They are too invested in indicting the cops, no matter what. I don’t understand why in this day and age, there aren’t cameras all over the place, as far as police vehicles and officers. The union needs to accept this.

When is the autopsy coming out? Or has it already been released?

So, now we are blaming the Mayor, City Council Pres, and Police Commissioner of overseeing a police coverup? Wow, the voters of Baltimore really ought to consider a change. If this is the case, they might want to think about a Republican or something…

As for broken spines, remember the much maligned Charles Krauthammer? He became a quadriplegic by simply striking his head at the wrong angle on the bottom of a swimming pool. It takes very little force if the angle is right (a blow to the chin is extremely risky in this regard).

Of course, fluke injuries may only happen to white Harvard Medical School students of privilege, I’m not sure how anatomy works…

Interesting article…

No riots, no property damage…no headlines, not even bylines

If we really want to address this problem race can not be the factor which makes a case news worthy or not; it can not be the excuse for the behavior seen in Boston (or Oakland - Lovell Mixon) etc. What the race factor can provide is good employment for certain groups.
