Someone just posted a link to an article in The Economist. I clicked it and read the article. Now I have side banner ads for The Economist on my CC.
CC must have an interesting arrangement with its advertisers!

Yes, and if you discuss an item on the good buy of the day thread, suddenly those appear too.
Uhhhmmm… Remember certain co that exterminated insects?
their ads would send those pests scurrying down our screens!
I am happy with my nice Burberry and Nordstrom ads.
Adblock is your friend
Ever thought that what YOU search or click through might direct how ads show up? If you see them on CC, the ads will appear in other sites that carry advertising. That is how cookies work.
Xiggi, that is precisely why I pre-populate my cookies with nice stuff, so the bugs will not come crawling out of the banners as soon as someone mentions that company…
Can’t have Adblock and can’t disable cookies because of the stuff I do on this machine.
I am still seeing those spiked heel-less booties and that gawd awful Stella sweatshirt, Bunsen. >:P
Just clear your cookies a lot. Shift/Control and delete - check the cookies box only. That’s all that is - targeted banner ads … CC probably makes their ad inventory available for this and they get a percentage. It’s supposed to make the ad experience - more in tune with what you are interested in. Now if your hubby or son on computer and porn sites popping up- you should worry!
As romani said, Adblock is your friend. IME, it blocks probably 98% of ads. When I read CC, there are no ads running down the sides or across the top. It’s a much neater, cleaner, more efficient experience. When I use DH’s computer (his is connected to our printer), I am bombarded with ads, and often have to click over, under, around and through them to get to what I’m looking for.
It fascinates me how the google leads work. I read the House Flip #3 thread and looked at a couple of items she was considering from Overstock and Amazon. I’m constantly getting banner ads for those products now; mainly for items I browsed for several minutes.
On another forum I frequent a lady was complaining that her banner ads were for “beautiful Asian ladies seeking marriage” and everyone was telling her to check with her husband…
^Funny!
I’m guessing this will be moved to the About The Forum forum. I see no ads and it’s easy to get rid of them. Just google ad blocker and your operating system, i.e. “ad blocker, firefox” Takes about 2 minutes.
Osprey- that’s hillarious!
Is anyone else experiencing this? I run IE10 and adblock plus. I can’t view this thread unless I disable the adblock add-on and then close and open IE. Without doing that, when I click on this thread and only this thread, I get a blank white screen, no posts. Just disabling adblock plus on the status bar doesn’t change anything. Is it the thread title?
^ Yes. And it happens when clicking onto the title of the thread. On the other hand, if you click on the last poster (you in my case) and go though the last replies … the thread will show up. It might have to do something with the title of the thread having banner in it. I see this on a test machine connected to IE10 with the adblocker.
I get mostly Disney pop ups these days because my daughter frequently mentions me on facebook when counting down the days until we leave (68).
What really freaked me out this morning is that I went to google something and my google banner was dancing cakes and “Happy Birthday to my full name”.
I love seeing Max Mara coats!
Cruising ebags.com will give you nice banners. ![]()
I have Adblock but I don’t use IE; I use Google Chrome. No problem on this thread at all.
