Most people don’t like it
Are we talking don ellis or pink martini?

Wow, can’t imagine working out to Don Ellis, but I do occasionally like to listen to his version of “Hey Jude”: [Don Ellis Live at the Filmore: Hey Jude - YouTube](<a href=“Don Ellis Live at the Filmore: Hey Jude - YouTube”>Don Ellis Live at the Filmore: Hey Jude - YouTube)

I use her music to incorporate some belly dancing moves as part of a core workout. :D

I listened to the first link of Pink Martini. It’s good for ballet. And the Don Ellis link sounds like good boogie music. I don’t really like boogie music.

Belly dancing? Wow.

Audiophile, yeah…I think the Don Ellis tune I chose works out…but you definitely don’t work out at an optimum rate. It is a little unorthodox. :)

Don Ellis is an acquired taste. My wife has never acquired that taste. Lol.

I like your Don Ellis piece as much or more than any other piece in this thread. I love his version of Hey Jude. I listened to it 2 1/2 times already. I want you to remember that when I get to your list because your list is very rock heavy.
I am going to give it a shot…

I have almost finished with Very Happy’s list and I am very happy with some of her
choices.

Thanks, dstark. Let me know which ones you liked. I have others . . . .

dstark,

Yes, my work out list is rock heavy because that’s what gets me moving. I do listen to a lot of Jazz, Folk and Blues to relax.

Ok Very Happy…I like more than 4…but I might be getting tougher as I go…

For example…I like arlo guthrie’s song…but I don’t want to listen to it 10 times…

So… 4 winners… On the list…

That’s Not My Name by the Ting Tings

Disturbia by Rhianna

Suddenly I See by KT Tunstall

Single Ladies by Beyonce

Audiophile…I understand…

Hey…anybody .that listens to Don Ellis is a winner to me… :)

I might listen to Hey Jude in the gym when I just want to cruise on the recumbent bike…

Hey Jude is definitely a winner…It is making my recumbent bike list…

But that is a different list…

Audiophile, what are you listening to in jazz?

Off the top of my head, I listen to a lot of Miles Davis (acoustic and electric), Bill Evans, Coltrane, Roland Kirk, Weather Report, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, and Pat Metheny.

Recently I purchased “All Night Session” by Hampton Hawes, and I can’t seem to stop playing it: [Hampton Hawes Quartet - Takin’ Care - YouTube](<a href=“Hampton Hawes Quartet - Takin' Care - YouTube”>Hampton Hawes Quartet - Takin' Care - YouTube)

Just thought of an instrumental (more rock than Jazz) that used to be on my work out playlist that is guaranteed to get you moving: [Booker T & the MG’s - green onions - mod classic 60s - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

I know Booker T Jones. Really nice guy. We aren’t close or anything but one of his kids played sports with one of mine…

Green Onions is one of the most played pieces of music in the United States.

I like your jazz list. Bill Evans…Pat Metheny…Miles…really the whole list…

I will listen to Hampton Hawes on youtube…

Glad you found some you like!!

The nice thing about the iPod, remember, is that if you don’t like the song, or don’t like it at that moment, you can skip it. And not hurt its feelings, either. ;)

Yeah… Lol.

I hope I am not hurting anybody’s feelings here. If I made my list…audiophile and emeraldkity4 would be the only two people with a chance of liking it. Lol

I don’t know how this thread moved to where I am the arbitrator. I
Mean I understand because I was looking for a playlist…but maybe I should say nothing but thanks…

I don’t have any special expertise here. If you like the music it is good…
Should I stop commenting? I will. No problem.

I am going to try and listen to everything posted within reason, but I am not going to comment anymore.

I listened to two of the David Guetta songs recommended here when I worked out today. I’ve enjoyed watching the videos and hearing lots of the songs on YouTube, whether or not I’ll use end up using them. Thanks!

Try some Al Jarreau for your cool down. [Al Jarreau - We’re in this Love together 1981 - YouTube](<a href=“Al Jarreau - We're in this Love together 1981 - YouTube”>Al Jarreau - We're in this Love together 1981 - YouTube)

dstark, don’t worry about hurting MY feelings anyway!
You asked for songs to work out with…we said earlier that is a very personal thing. My tastes in workout music (embarrasing bubblegum pop type music) are VERY different than my tastes in music for music’s sake. I’d never sit around and listen to the music on my workout playlist. I know what motivates me and what gets me going. May, or may not be the same as what gets you going. I’m not interpreting it as “oh, I hate that song, what’s wrong with you?”

Have you tried putting some of your faves into Pandora and seeing what it comes up with? It’s pretty good at serving up some “similar” songs.

and so far, I like your list too.

“My tastes in workout music (embarrasing bubblegum pop type music) are VERY different than my tastes in music for music’s sake. I’d never sit around and listen to the music on my workout playlist”

First, justamom5465, thanks for your post. I feel like I am under pressure here. I don’t want to hurt anybody’s feelings. I also said, and I do, want to listen to as much as I can of what is posted. Yet, I don’t want to listen to stuff I don’t like, so it is a fine line.

What I listen to for pleasure and what I listen to when I workout are two different things.

I have been playing some of the songs from this thread in front of my wife. She said to me, “Why are you listening to that music? Since when are you listening to that music? That is the music I listen to. When I play that music you tell me to turn it off.”

And she is right.

I haven’t decided how to use pandora. I used it a couple of years ago and I didn’t like it. I should give pandora another shot.

I have been using youtube. I like youtube. I think youtube sucks up a lot of cell phone service data though.

By the way, justamom5465, what do you listen to outside the gym?

Classic rock, 60’s & 70’s pop/rock/folk, “Adult Contemporary”, some (more mainstream) alternative rock…mostly anything besides Jazz, which I (again, music is very personal) dislike. Sorry, Jazz lovers.

So -you like dance music

Next you will be hanging out in clubs (lol)
I love David Guetta -I don’t understand exactly how it works
Guetta is the DJ arrangement type guy -not the vocalist. I don’t understand why he gets top billing -I guess that is just how it works

I don’t know if this one has been mentioned yet “Without you” -Guetta is also nice
