Daughter denied for BS Microbiology. Not surprised and not disappointed at all. Just glad to finally receive the decision.
Holy moley- son still hasn’t heard. I’m, again, assuming a rejection or wait list at best. Perhaps I need to be more positive. This whole thing sucks - at least I will be done with this process for a few years (daughter is at Santa Cruz). Son waiting on Cal Poly SLO and UC Berk. We are visiting the University of Utah on Monday so it’s probably going to be down to Utah (WUE scholarship) and UCSC.
D26 rejected for political science. In at NYU, Northeastern, UW, Scripps, Occidental, UCSC, UCR, UCM, Fordham, U of Oregon, Cal State Long Beach. WL at UCSD, UCI, UCSB. Rejected UCLA. Such odd results! Will see what WL brings, but she’s very excited about NYU program.
This is WILD!
rejected for aerospace engineering, in state
accepted at UCSB, UCD, UT Austin, Purdue, SDSU
WL at UIUC, UCSD
Rejected at Caltech, Georgia Tech, UCLA, Stanford, SLO
Son rejected to SLO. Bummer. Oh well.
Hi there! I met with an advisor this fall to transfer from Cuesta. From what I understood, in order to be considered “local” you have to had graduated high school in slo county. So when you submit your high school diploma, they will verify if you’re local or not.
My daughter’s decision: waitlisted for marine biology
UC UW: 3.88
UC capped: 4.14
UC FW: 4.58
ELC don’t know
I am not sure about all the other stats - she had maybe 4 or 5 honors courses, 6 or so APs and a bunch of CC courses.
No awards but did a lot of marine bio ECs
in state
not first gen
strengths: marine bio ECs
weakness: lower UW GPA
accepted at UCSD, UCSC, UCB and waitlisted at UCLA, UCD, UCSB, Cal Poly SLO, CSLB and rejected at UCI and SDSU.
do you mind filling out the template with stats, for those of us with younger kids?
Daughters accepted to Berkeley, UC San Diego, UC Irvine, UC Davis. Cal Poly rejected her yesterday - the school she dreamed about for the last six years. This is my second valedictorian that was rejected by Cal Poly.
We have very similar results for Poli Sci too except my D26 did not apply to some of the schools you mentioned. She is hopeful about the 3 WL (SD, SB & D) and happy about UW & UBC (Univ of British Col). But the Cali schools (except for Scripps & Pitzer) have been heartbreaking …
Just posting for future applicants… Cal Poly only does one wave of Acceptances. If you are not admitted on that wave you are waitlisted/rejected. For 2026, Acceptances came out on Thursday, March 12, rejections/waitlist came out on Wednesday March 25. Check portals- My daughter was accepted on March 12 and still has not received an acceptance email or an email to check portal.
This is my fourth child to apply to Cal Poly and it has been the same every year- one acceptance wave and weeks later the waitlist/rejections.
Good luck!
There were are few admits in between the admit wave and the waitlist wave this year, but you are correct that the majority of admits happen in the first wave and this has been the pattern since I have been on CC (2012).
Were they after the 12th? Or did they just not check their portal until a later date? My daughter has received no email about acceptance. I just happen to stalk this page and saw people were admitted on the 12th and told her to check hers that day.
According to the posts they received an email and checked their portal on March 19. Posters verified on Facebook and Reddit.
I agree. There seem to be only a smattering of first-year admits after the initial wave, but honestly students should count on being waitlisted or denied after that. I have one at Cal Poly now (admitted in first wave) and one who was denied and is currently waiting on a transfer decision. While “anything can happen,” I’m afraid it gives a lot of false hope that there is a second wave of admits, as additional admits seem few and far between.
Exactly. Feel so bad for all the kids that have been thinking there would be a second wave.
On another note, I believe no transfer updates have gone out yet. I think they will do that one in one wave. I have a son waiting on that too. Don’t want to turn this into a transfer feed just sharing. Good luck to yours!
Has anyone on this thread been to Cal Poly Open House before? Tips? Things not to miss?
My daughter was notified today that she is on the wait-list for the honors college. Does anyone have information about admission from waitlist? Thanks!
