CAL POLY SLO TRANSFER STUDENTS 2019-2020

@jinyung2 yeah youre fine. I dont know one person with ADT who has heard back and gotten accpeted from a Cal poly or SDSU yet. I know people who have applied and gotten rejected, but no one who has heard back and gotten accepted yet. So dont worry, decisions will be out soon

I would say don’t lose hope! In the first wave of acceptances last Friday, my friend got rejected. So it’s random and not everybody posts on here. If she got rejected and I got accepted on the same day, that means there is no order and acceptances could still come out. That’s my thought :slight_smile:

My friend just got her acceptance to cal poly slo

what are her stats? @itstylermydudes

@Dbeltran219 thanks for the info! Much appreciated.

My friend applies as a bio major
has a 3.68 gpa
All GE completed
All prereqs completed by spring
Will get a AS in biology

I have everything the same except I have a 3.96 but I didn’t get a decision yet.
@hhhey11

wow that is competitive…

I hear you, I’ve got
3.73 gpa
IGETC done
Golden 4 done all (A)s
21+ a week work directly related to Major
----- Yet Haven’t heard a thing…

@Scoobybrew yeah let’s just hope we get accepted. I also noticed ur also replying in the UCSD thread, we have a better shot there than cal poly. What’s the ranking of colleges u want to go to?

@itstylermydudes Probably UCSD is top choice. Cal Poly and UCSD are great schools but UCSD has a few things that put it over Cal poly for me. I put UCLA below both of them, their reputations are very similar, but San Diego is way better than LA IMHO. How about you?

Also It’s interesting that UCSD is a better shot for us. While “technically” UCSD is somewhat harder to get into, I think I have a better chance because of the Essays. I had no idea Cal Poly didn’t have an Essay section, which is a real bummer, had years of things to include in it but no where to put them.

wait so would yall say if we havent heard anything its most likely a denial?

From What I’ve heard chances are pretty low by now, I’m surprised no rejections nor acceptances were released today. Which makes me further think that, its most likely rejections from here on out. I don’t know that but it seems to be pointing that way. :-S

@Scoobybrew
99% sure I’m rejected from slo, just check the portal out of habit now lol

I have UCSD slightly over Cal Poly and I also applied to UCLA but I have that even lower than my third choice which is UCSB. I believe the reason why UCSD is “easier” to transfer to is because it’s a lot bigger. Their programs have much more space. along with majority of majors, besides engineering and architecture being the same or easier than POly, are super rigorous and a lot of students switch majors or drop. @Scoobybrew

Also Cal Poly, unless your an arch major or a another major that requires a portfolio, I don’t think admissions even looks at your application. Everything is decided from an algorithm which is what I’ve heard from past forums and common chatter amongst other students. Which would make sense given the fact they don’t care about EC or anything else other than grades and an estimate of how much you’ve worked and not even asking what exactly what line of work either @Scoobybrew .

@itstylermydudes its really interesting you mention that. So I accidentally made a typo on a date for my app to Cal Poly back in the fall (can’t believe I didn’t catch it with my 5-10 proof reads lol). So I called them in January to correct the date, and at the time I had no idea CSU didn’t have an essay section. So I asked where I put in my EC and specific work experience, (not trying to brag when I say this, but I used to be a fully employed engineer for several years before returning to school). So When I asked them where I could explain all my work experience, they said “wow, that’s really impressive but being a state school we can’t have a section for people to explain their unique credentials like that so students who didn’t have that opportunity don’t get over shadowed”. The irony is I didn’t land that job because my parents owned the company or anything. Literally went through the entire hiring system like anyone else. So that’s why I have all fingers crossed for UCSD and their Essay Section. However I’m still pretty surprised I wasn’t at a minimum wait listed for Cal Poly. I’m assuming as well that I’ve been rejected at this point, since it still says no determination has been made.

@Scoobybrew yeah, quite unfortunate, I did get into the rival school UCSB today, and I’m probably going to get rejected from poly. So I figured out why I my friend who was accepted over me. I literally have taken all of the classes she has and have a way higher gpa. (3.96 vs 3.6), I believe that she was chosen due to diversity needs as I am Asian/white while she is Pakistani. Literally the only difference in our applications. We did them together.

@itstylermydudes If that’s really the reason why that sucks. affirmative action really hurts us asians in socal :\

Lol so apparently the counselor at my college who was doing the supplemental application with me placed very important courses in the wrong spots. I therefore did not receive credit for them and have no determination on my portal. What’s frustrating is that I placed my trust in her (although not at first) and now I will have to write an appeal. I will have all required/desired courses completed by the semester and I have been a local to Cal Poly my whole life. I have a 3.82 gpa.
