Don’t know why they would change something that was working. I assume it was about money. I have successfully used Adblock Plus for years and now its a disaster. Can anyone recommend a good ad/spam blocking app? I use Trend Micro for system security but it doesn’t prevent ads. Help!
What browser are you using?
Not the OP, but Firefox and CC have become almost incompatible. It stalls out regularly and as far as I can tell it’s the ads that are creating the problem. I have no problem being surrounded by ads, but having the page freeze completely is making it almost impossible to enjoy CC any longer.
I mostly use Google Chrome. I know its not great but it takes too much effort to switch.
@mathmom , that DEFINITELY sounds like a reason to seek an option!
Firefox users may want to check the following lists to control ads that are too “aggressive” or tend to consume too much bandwidth or CPU:

@mathmom - I use Firefox and adblock, and CC works fine. I see no ads at all. Is your Firefox fully updated?
My Firefox is 58.0.2 (64 bit)
It’s updated, but I’ve never bothered to install adblockers. It may be time.
Ads are based on the cookies in your browser… I don’t mind seeing pretty shoes and dresses from Nordie. They keep other ads out.
I use a fantastic one for Android, called Block-This.
@BunsenBurner You have to experience surfing without ads. You won’t want to go back.
I use both Chrome and Firefox (sort of randomly) and have Adblock Plus on Firefox. I can’t say I see any more ads leaking through on Firefox than usual. For Chrome, I use UBlock Origin, and, same – seems to be a-okay.
@JenJenJenJen Thanks. So Adblock Plus hasn’t changed for you on Firefox? It worked well for years on Chrome until the past few month. I thought it was just a glitch but after doing some research, I learned they did make a strategic move to permit relevant ads.
I also use Ghostery. It removes trackers.
I use adblock and chrome and haven’t noticed a difference. I really appreciate it.
i use adblock and firefox-
i experience no ads and no slowdown on any website.
Chrome and AdBlock Plus here. Works well.
The only issue I’ve had is that AdBlock keeps blocking Ebates, even when I “allow” that pop up. Since I’m not buying anything lately anyway (see the February Freeze thread!), it doesn’t really matter. I am thrilled to not have ads.
I feel guilty about blocking ads on my phone, but can’t handle them on the small screen. So I don’t block them on my desktop.
Mind you, I have never ever bought anything from an online ad, so I could make a case for not getting the advertisers charged for my viewing something, which would be worthless.
Any suggestion for us Safari users? And no, I’m not switch to Chrome.
I use Safari and AdBlock Plus. Never get any ads on this site or any other sites either.
