If there are any CC administrators reading this, I am very upset that while reading posts I have to look at an ad at the bottom if my screen that says “1 Christian wants to bang you”! This is very disturbing. Why do you allow such advertising?

I use Adblock Plus as an add-on to my browser and never see a single ad on CC anymore. I don’t blame you for being upset at that particular ad, though. If you don’t use an ad blocker, you shouldn’t be subjected to offensive ads.

I get some strange ads when I am overseas. I reported one ad to a moderator about meeting Thai girls. I think sometimes their Ad filter fails, so some of those non-PG ads get in.

I’m with you, Proudmama. I have AdBlock on my computer, but it’s the mobile app that’s giving me those wonderful solicitations.

There are many forum and news sites that use contract banner ad companies and sometimes bad stuff (malware, offensive ads, etc.) pass through. The ad companies don’t seem to scan everything that comes through and they might not be able to do this economically. I think that they remove the bad stuff when alerted to it though.

I use ad-block and flash-block with Firefox so I don’t see the ads.

The offensive material should certainly not be coming through, and we do apologize for that. We’ve had our well-known issues with malware earlier this year and had to make some updates to our ad software, but this is not a desired outcome for sure. I will pass along the information. Thanks, everyone!

Bizarre, we are checking into it. Proudmamaa, was that on your PC/Mac or in a mobile browser, or in the mobile app? Thanks.

It’s the mobile app for me…something called zoosk?

At home I use firefox and block ads. Happened to come to the library this morning to get online while some work is done at home. Thought something was odd as I peruse CC pages and the it struck me…haven’t seen those ads in a while! I’m surprised the library doesn’t block them; they use Explorer…

I use Safari & right now I am seeing ads for cars.
You might try clearing your cookies, but outside of a tacky dress ad aimed at lowering the bar for prom dresses, I haven’t ever seen an ad that was inappropriate for the site.
Safari blocks ads pretty well though.

I don’t use the CC mobile app.

I mainly see Us advertising. Never had any questionable ads, unless you count the many Us I’ve never heard of and would never recommend.

I’m guessing you wouldn’t recommend them because you’ve never heard of them? I’m going to go with that.

I’ve only seen university advertisements and prom dress ads a couple months ago. :)

I am using the app on my iPhone. Thanks.

I’m getting some weird ads now – underlined words in posts that are linked to ads. Any suggestions on how to get rid of them? I had installed Adblocker Plus, which helped get rid of the annoying pop-up video ads but don’t like these weird underlined words that are also ads throughout text on my computer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I did just install Adblock on my iPhone.

You should check your computer. I can’t remember what it is offhand, but I’ve had it before and it was actually on my computer rather than from a website…

I use the CC app on my iPad…there are never ads.

I checked with the virus checker and it said my computer is clean. I get ads from sponsors when viewing on my iPhone. They’re on bottom left hand corner and seem to be Us.

Lots of these ads are “Interest Based Ads” meaning

…*"interest-based advertising enables advertisers to reach users based on their inferred interests and demographics (e.g. ‘sports enthusiasts’). It also allows advertisers to show ads based on a user’s previous interactions with them, such as visits to advertiser websites. To complement interest-based advertising, Ads Settings lets users view and edit their interest and demographic categories.

Interest-based advertising should help monetize your website more efficiently, increase value for advertisers, and provide a better experience for users…"*

In other words, Google tracks your searches via cookies. If your home computer is used by kids or teens, perhaps they have been busy searching… :)

Ongo…even if interest based, the site should be able to limit offensive ads.

I no longer get any ads on CC.
