CC Mobile App for iPhone & Android: FAQ and Q&A

@cbagzdad We have just released the login persistence update to Apple so once we get through their approval process you should not have to re-login every time you launch the app. As far as returning search results by post rather than topic it is not something we can just turn back on, but I am definitely taking a look to see what we can do. That part of the application is powered by a supplied engine so we do not have as much control over it.

Thank you for your input cbagzdad,
SonicDMG

Today’s update restored login persistence. Thank you.

Please restore forum subscription feature and restore Forum tab to Favorites. The CC app was much easier to use before these features were (inadvertently, I hope) deactivated.

Search function is practically useless unless search results can be returned by Post.

Thanks for your attention and assistance.

@cbagzdad I am glad to hear that the login persistence update is working for you. I am still looking into the search functionality piece and I will definitely let you know if anything changes.

Thank you for your input @cbagzdad and feel free to give more in the future,
SonicDMG

On the Android app, it’s annoying not to be able to see the full date of previous posts so that you could tell if you’re reading something that’s three years old.

@annasdad Hi there, thank you for your input. I will take a look see what we can do on our next update.

SonicDMG, how do I remove the signature from my posts? I am running on a droid Incredible. I’ve looked (I think) through all the settings menus and can’t find how to edit the signature. (it’s similar to annasdad’s signature in #44)

@JustaMom5465 Hi there and good morning. I am taking a look at this. There should be a setting to turn this option off, but our current released version may not have that option enabled. In the interim you can always delete the signature from your message before you reply, but I completely understand how that would be annoying. I will let you know once I figure this out.

Ok, our version does not have the setting. We are looking to correct this in a future update, but I do not have a date set quite yet.

Why does the Android app need permission to read phone state and identity?
“Allows the application to access the phone features of the device. An application with this permission can determine the phone number and serial number of this phone, whether a call is active, the number that call is connected to and the like”

Soon after installing your app I began getting spam SMS messages. Are you selling my phone number to advertisers?

Hi @ccappuser. No, we do not collect or pull any personal information regarding any of our mobile app users nor do we sell any information regarding our mobile app users to outside parties. The mobile application is there for the sole purpose for you guys to have another way to communicate on CollegeConfidential. Gaining state and identity access is actually quite normal for native applications. The key part of the message is this: “Allows the application to access the phone features of the device”. That can include things like the GPS receiver or simply storing cached data on the device. The way the drivers work it is an all or nothing proposition so if a developer needs access to one phone device you get access to mostly all of them even though you may only be using one or two of them. What kind of messages are you seeing? I am also using the Android version along with thousands of users and I have never received any spammy messages or heard of another user receiving them. Feel free to post here with additional questions.

Whenever I try to change to a larger font in the Settings section, the app closes. When I reopen it, I still have the “normal” font. How can I get it to accept a larger font? Also, sometimes the menu bar at the bottom disappears. How do I get it back?

Hi hornetdad - Thanks for your post. We have identified the issue you are having and are working to correct it. Also, for the bottom bar, you’ll only see it when you’re logged into CC in the app. This gives you access to your profile information, private messages, your subscriptions, etc. Hope that helps. Thanks again!

Hey guys,
Do you have any plans to create an app for Windows Phones?

How the heck do you start a thred on the app?

Hi MaybeOnMars - Thanks posting your question! Please follow the steps below to create a new thread (aka topic) within the app:

Once the app loads, log in by touching the “Login” box on the lower right.

Once you are logged in, navigate to the forum that you’d like to post in. (You’ll need to be at the forum-level page.)

Touch the arrow icon in the upper right and select “New Topic”. This will open a window where you can begin your new thread.

Hope this helps, but please let us know if you encounter any issues.
Thanks!
